"I was overwhelmed at first, but now I love this product"
As someone who has a lot of experience with still photography but not much with video, I was afraid that this program would be too much for me and, ultimately, not very useful. At the same time I wanted something that I could grow with. My fears were put to rest once I downloaded it onto my computer and opened it up. It was fairly friendly and easy to do just what I wanted to, which was basic editing of some video clips. I less than an hour I had my finished product.

I am now encouraged to explore this product further, I'm going to add some wipes and transitions to my edited video. I know that this one program will be enough for me for the immediate future.

"Great Value - Surprising Functionality and Quality "
VideoStudio lets you edit and create movies, slides shows, and DVDs in both SD (standard definition) and HD(high Definition) video. It comes in the box with a CD and printed manual (somewhat of a rarity these days).

The look and feel of VideoStudio is similiar to other editing software. You have tabs across the top that take you through the different steps of making a movie. You can capture your video, edit, add effects, preview, and save your finished movie. You can create a DVD with a single movie or create menus accessing multiple videos. It has a Movie Wizard that walks you through the process if you're new to this. With the wizard, you can start using the software without reading the manual. However, VideoStudio has a lot of features you won't even know about unless you thumb through the manual. Also, the help menu works very well and covers a large number of features.

I tested this on a Pentium 4 laptop and a Duo Core desktop. It installed easily and ran well on both. Keep in mind that editing video is one of the most processor intensive things you can do on a computer. The better the computer (lots of memory, hard disk space, and a fast processor), the faster it works. That said, editing was very fast on both computers... some lag time on some things but not really objectionable. The final step of "Sharing" is where you will need to wait (and it can take hours). Here, the Duo Core computer took about 1/3 of the time that the Pentium 4 one did. This is the step where all of the changes (edits , applied effects, etc) are applied and the final video is rendered and written out (either to disk or DVD). I have used other editing programs and this one is as fast or faster than most. It also writes out a smaller file than the other ones I've tried. While this is good because you can have a longer movie on the DVD, it usually comes at the cost of lower quality. On viewing the DVD, I was surprised to see the quality was fantastic! Also the sound stayed in sync with the video throughout the whole movie, something that other programs have had problems with.

In my opinion, this is one of the better (if not the best) inexpensive PC based video editing programs. It's gives a good balance of functionality, speed, and quality.

"Decent product, lousy support"
Corel's Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 is well integrated video editing product. It works well with most video media types, and can also export files in a variety of formats. The editing layout is very clear and intuitive, especially for a product of this level of sophistication. It is very easy to create high-quality video clips. Overall, this is a solid well-designed product.
My major problem with this software has nothing to do with the product itself, but with the customer support. I am used to customer support being pretty for software being pretty shabby, but I think I've reached a new low of frustration. The copy of the product came with no serial number, which made it impossible to install. Corel's website was not very helpful in that regard, and it was hard to find a place where questions and complaints could be addressed. When I found it, it required that I fill out a lengthy registration process, which, at the very end, asked for my serial number. I was eventually able to resolve this issue through some non-conventional means, but not after a lot of frustrating runaround. So if you are interesting into a video editing software, I would recommend that you go with one that has much better support, either from a better-known company or with a strong base of volunteers.

"HD with Slow PC??? Here is the solution"
I think this package should receive the highest praises solely on its ability to manage HD videos on slow computers. Trust me it's worth the price. Especially if you are struggling to put together a family vacation video with your slow machine (that you know you must replace, but don't have the time or the desire to do it yet).

Another good feature of this software is the ability to make edits to the video in real time that are later applied while rendering. Much better than the Pinnacle Studio I used in the past.

To be fair, I must say it does take a bit to convert. How `bit'? About 28MB per minute. If you can live with that, this is the product for you.

"Easy to use, but full-featured!"
I have used Ulead VideoStudio since version 3. The last Ulead released product was Version 11 Plus. Then came Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus. This latest incarnation, Corel VideoStudio Pro X2, is the first released solely under the Corel name and without Ulead anywhere on the box. But don't let that fool you. This is, for all intents and purposes, VideoStudio 12 (is the X in the title a roman numeral?).

As with each new version of VideoStudio throughout the years, this release sees a number of improved and/or added features incorporated into an already solid home video editing product. Most notable of these in the special effects section is the paint option, which allows you to freehand paint on your video (think Indiana Jones style maps to draw your route) and the ability to resize workspace windows individually. There are many more new features-- just read the Amazon product description above--but these are two that I particularly like.

VideoStudio has always been easy-to-use with a friendly, intuitive interface, and it's nice to see that Corel has not messed with that. If you are familiar with the VideoStudio of old, then you will have no trouble finding your way around this new version. Very little has changed. That said, however, if you already own VideoStudio 11 Plus or 11.5 Plus, then you might want to wait for the next version.

What our customer's say!

"High quality results but you do have to have some video making experience.", I've been trying for almost a month to get a video made with this software. It is not as screen friendly for those who have NEVER done any such task. I am sure if you have made video's in the past it is a snap for you. I made a video to share here, but:

Well I will have to keep trying I cannot seem to get it to upload hopefully soon. This is a great product just a user who has no experience but will be getting it as the user guide is quite complete.

The one little try I did manage to get together is okay but with practice I will improve. You do have to use the substantial user guide if you are like me and have no experience.

It has so many professional fasects to it I am a bit out of my league and overwhelmed. I do however want to master making my own professional DVD;s so I will continue.

I am going to try and upload my first attempt to show you even someone like me can get it done. It is just a few things that are important to me my dogs, nature and a campfire. Tried 3 times no luck will keep at it.

So if you are cluless on making videos then take the time and read the guide and you will do fine. Computer techs it will be A++ wounderful and exciting for you.

"Lot's of features", I was able to make a short movie quickly from some video clips from my Canon SD770IS, add music effects, titles, and burn to a VCD in 30 minutes without reading any documentation. This is a good choice for someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of time studying manuals. However, be forewarned that creating movies can be a deep experience for the uninitiated.

"As an avid Avid user, I have to say I was and am still impressed.", I am a amateur short film/independent film maker, with aspirations of more grandeur pictures, but don't we all? So in essence I would humor myself as being some sort of movie maker.

I have only used Avid for my editing purposes, and by editing I mean editing shots, color correction, audio fading, transition shots, and encoding to name a few. These are certainly "essential" tools for any movie making "polisher", whether extremely amateur or professional.

I was very very impressed with this very INEXPENSIVE software package Corel has put out here. Avid, for instance, of course I can't hurt their reputation, and why would I, it's the number 1 program for hollywood editors and it's bar none above itself even. But, let's face it, it IS expensive for the normal everyday tinkering wondering film maker, and upwards and beyond of 1,000 dollars. Not to mention having a solid computer system to support it. And on top of that reading and learning how to use such an extensive program.

Well, this Corel Videostudio, lacks all the inflated price tags, all the encyclopedia like requirements for use, and is actually aimed at professionalism for the beginner. It basically radiates " You can do anything and everything you ever wanted to do with strips of video, and you can do it easily, efficiently and inexpensively!" Now, what more could you want?

This big microcosm of software offers:
1. Editing
2.Color Correction
3.Splicing
4.editing FRAMES
5.encoding
6.audio debugging/fading
7.transitions
of course more

And I know you can say, well yea of course shouldn't it? Well not necessarily, especially when marketed to fly by night film makers, whether it be for home use, commercial use, or personal use. I think it takes what Avid offers, puts an ease of use make over on it, marks it down by 80% and sells it. I was surprised how professional this thing could be, while maintaining a less than clairvoyant requirement for usage.

With this program, you will be able to do many many things that you wished you could but didn't think you could because of lack of know how. I say pick this up if you are wanting to start down the path of filmmaking in ANY sense, with the likes of home videos, short film in general etc. You will be able to do most of the things that the professional programs offer you with a small learning curve. If this sounds like what you want then I say go for it. So go forth and shoot!

"All This at a GREAT Price!", Though I'm just getting started using the software, it's really quite powerful! Just amazing that you can get all this for such a great price. I'm not a "techie" and perhaps it's going to take me just a little longer to catch-on. . . but I still think that I can do it! :-) I think it's really going to help me enhance my website!

"Fun to use, but Digital8 camcorder owners should take note", VideoStudio Pro is a lot of fun to use and easily converts video into a multitude of formats.

Note to Video8/Digital 8 users: I'm in the process of converting my old camcorder movies into digital format. I have a Sony Digital8 video camera that also plays old Video8 tapes. VideoStudio is able to easily import video via a firewire cable for the newer, Digital8 tapes. However, VideoStudio cannot import Video8 tapes using the firewire cable. I contacted customer service and was informed that they are in the process of fixing this issue. Windows video import is able to capture my Video8 recordings. Once the Video8 recordings have been imported, I can edit them with VideoStudio.

I am completely new to video editing and found VideoStudio very simple to use. I did not need to consult the manual since the software seemed self explanatory. VideoStudio can detect video clips and easily allows the user to clip video as desired.

For DVD creation, VideoStudio makes it easy to create menus and chapters and then burn to DVD.

"Sophisticated video on a laptop!", My wife's laptop (Visat OS) took on a new soul creating videos and a range from small uploads to slick home movies. Our slides, converted video and home movies needed lots of additions to make them archival-great, from adding titles and visual footnotes to arranging in proper order. Here it can be done without fear!
Extremely packed with options and tricks, Corel has blown away this TOASThead with great support and professionalism of product. Produce anything that you can burn to disc. Still playing with it, so no review can cover it all yet, but we are novices at editing and creating DVDs, and videoStudio is the key to learning what works and looking awesome.

Highly recommended for anyone who is concerned about preserving images and movies... perfectly!

"Another Great Product by Corel! ", This is my second Corel Program, the first one I used was Photo Album 7 and I love it! I figured editing video would probably require more effort than the ease of compiling pictures, but I was surprised to find Corel kept their program intuitive; I only had to refer to the manual a couple of times, and this was my first video editing program.

The installation on Window's XP took about 10 minutes. When it finished installing it was ready to go, no need to reboot. I have lots of paddling videos taken with a digital camera, and some that had already been converted from a digital camcorder. It was easy to select the videos I wanted to work with, but it took a bit to figure out how to sync up the music with the video, and how to omit the sound from the video so that only the music was heard. All in all it took about 45 minutes to compile a great compilation of about 6 videos (trimmed down to just the parts I wanted). The best part was the video conversion afterwards; I converted it direct to MPEG-4 for my iPod Touch. There are other conversions available for the Zune, DVD, PSP, etc. This program is capable of a lot more, but for my simplistic needs it worked great!

If you're unsure which video editing program to purchase I definitely recommend this one!

"Viral Videos Here I Come", When you start up VideoStudio pro it presents you with a welcome screen which gives you the choice of choosing either the Movie Wizard, the VidioSutido Editor or the DV-toDVD Wizard. The first choice will let you edit Video you've imported into the program the last choice is pretty obvious and the second choice will walk you though creating your own movie and it'll make it easy.

One of the nice things about this program is the SmartProxy feature which is very handy if you're not working with a high powered machine (or a machine running slower than it should because you're running Vista and not XP, but that's another story). SmartProxy makes a smaller (not HD) file of your video which you work with. When you're finished it'll apply your changes to the original, now that's pretty nifty.

Applying overlays couldn't be easier and trimming clips is pretty darned easy too. There are more presets than you can shake a stick at and I really like the painting creator, though I can't think of many ways I could personally use it. And one of the niftiest features of this nifty program is how easy it makes it to upload your videos to YouTube. Who knows, I could be sending up viral videos in the near future.

"4 stars for now -- with more use may get to a 5", All video editing programs with any muscle and flexibility have a learning curve and take time to figure out. That said I am impressed at how fast I've been able to learn Corel Video Studio Pro.

This program installed quickly and easily with no problem on my computer running Vista.

I put in a high definition clip and it had no problem handling the clip 30 minute clip.

The menus are easy to navigate and very intuitive.

I was able to quickly add rolling credits at the end and adjust length and tempo to fit my needs.

Sound editing was simple though does not seem to have as many options as I typically like; however, as I use this program more I may discover the flexibility I am looking for.

Rendering seemed to happen much quicker than with other video programs I have worked with. I was surprised at how quickly my 30 minute video was rendered and burned to disk.

For a video editing program that is feature rich yet at the same time easy to jump into and use this is an excellent choice. I suspect that as I use it more I may be giving up my previous video editing software for Corel Video Studio Pro.

I'm impressed!

"Excellent Program!", I tend to approach trying out new software packages along the lines of going on a blind date. You hope for the best, but subconsciously you're looking for some sign of disaster. I'm happy to say, that in the couple of weeks that I've used this software things have gone quite smoothly. There was only one slight hiccup; I initially installed this on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6700 w/Vista) to experiment with at work during lunch. The WinDVD utility didn't work - it gave some error message and wouldn't play. The VideoStudio package itself worked great - I was really impressed how well it worked given the power of my laptop. The WinDVD software did work when I transferred the software over to my home computer.

I haven't really done much more than scratch the surface of using this software - mostly along the lines of bringing in some video, still images, and adding some music and rendering it out to something that could go on either a PSP or an iPod. Worked great for doing that. Haven't tried putting anything on to a regular DVD yet.

I'm very pleased with this package and how well it works with my computer (and even ran well on my laptop). A few months ago I purchased a similar package for editing video and was really disappointed with it - it just didn't run very well on my system and I ended up uninstalling it.
