"Just What I Needed"
I bought the Iomega Prestige 500 GB External Hard Drive to use as both a backup drive and additional storage on a Dell system running Vista. I was very pleased and impressed that I just plugged it in and it came right up. No formatting was necessary (although for use on a MAC, there is a need to reformat the device). The free backup software that came with it (EMC2 Retrospect) may or may not be the most fully functional backup software on the market, but it was free and it is much faster than the stock Microsoft backup. All in all, this device was just what I needed and I am totally satisfied.

Product seems to work okay, after 2 1/2 wks product died, could not access drive even with other computers, amazon replaced promptly, called Iomega no response from them, bad thing is I have 30 days to return to amazon with or without data/private information or be charged for 2 drives. So far no one will help with recovery cost fees.

It is an excellent external hard drive! Super quiet, slim, good price, and it has on/off switch on its back. Was delivered way ahead of schedule!!!
I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to a friend who is looking for an extra storage ...

I was having problems with the I/O Magic 250gb External HD I bought early last year and decided on a new external. I came across the info on the Iomega and went for it after reading a few of the reviews, I'm glad I did. I ordered it thru Amazon-Free Shipping and figured it'd be a while before I got it. I received it 4 days after ordering and was very happy with the transfer of the old files to the new HD. Installation was quick, there were no transfer files included, which was great, I hate to reformat an external, takes too long. I've still got over 100gb of space left and will probably order another. The Iomega uses less space than the second External I bought, which was a My Books and I love the on/off switch the Iomega has. Great product, don't know how long it will last, but so far, I'm happy with my purchase.

This drive was the cheapest drive with high ratings when I bought it and it certainly has lived up to my expectations. Solid, quiet, fast... perhaps a bit larger than some, but still a very good buy. I haven't used the backup software so I can't address any concerns there. I'm working with large photo files and backing them up as I go.
