"Buyer beware"
Even though the product is "Vista" compatible, there is a fine print - it is not supported under 64-bit version. The solution from support was to install 32-bit vista instead. If only they would print this requirement on the box, it can save some headache!!

"Great Amateur/Prosumer Editing Suite"
The "Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro Pack" is another fantastic entry into the outstanding Vegas family of editing software. We make instructional DVDs (Introduction To Candle Making) and have used Sony Vegas since version 4. While most of our videos are made using the higher end version Vegas Pro 8, I use the "Studio" version for home videos and quick edits.

What's included (all on one disc):
* Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition (editing software)
* DVD Architect Studio 4.5 (DVD authoring)
* Sound Forge Audio Studio (audio editing)
* Cinescore w/themes (sound track creation)
* 1001 Sound Effects
* NewBlue 3D Transitions & Effects ("Cartoonr" is an interesting effect)


Here are my observations:
* Very intuitive and easy to use interface
* Huge selection of effects and transitions
* Support for HD video
* Burns Blu-Ray from the timeline and from DVD Architect
* "Show Me How" interactive tutorials are very helpful
* Direct YouTube upload support
* Excellent Chromakey (green screen) capabilities
* Great sound editing tools
* Easy DVD menu creation

Other software that the novice/home user might want to consider is Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12(see my review there), it has less video tracks but more templates/themes.

Over all, I highly recommend "Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro Pack"!

"Powerful Video Editing Software That's Easy To Learn"
I'm just starting to learn how to edit video. Bought the Canon Vixia HF100 camcorder and this Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Packed worked very well at producing high quality, professional looking video. It has lots of great special video and audio effects. I appreciate the free online video training on sony.com, in addition to their integrated tutorial. It's great for preparing/editing your video projects. However, I'm giving it 4 stars (instead of 5) because I was under the impression that it would create/author CDs/DVDs. "Sony Movie Studio 9 works well", I use a Canon HG10 which only records in HD using the AVCHD standard. The SW that came doesn't come close to allowing you to do much editing/DVD making. With this camera it is easy to copy the video files from HG10 to my computers HD then I begin using the editing tool.
I compared this to several others you can find on the net: Ulead, Pinnacle, cyberlink and maybe a few others. I can tell you, without a doubt the Sony SW is so much faster. That means I don't need a super powerful computer to do all the editing and making of a DVD. It also doesn't crash like many of the competitor editors. Cost is roughly the same and you have a 30 day trial period. One disadvantage is this SW is a bit more difficult to use--maybe it just has a higher learning curve. Overall I'm very satisified with my purchase.

"Good but not great.", I have used Vegas for sometime now. We recently bought an HD camera, so I decided to buy Vegas Platinum Pro 9.0, because it says it can burn Blu-Ray discs. It can burn Blu-Ray discs, just not menu based Blu-Ray's. That is my big problem with Vegas 9.0. You should spend the extra money and buy Vegas Pro 8.0, so you can utilize DVD Architect 5.0 Pro.

"Great Product from Sony", This item , is an Amazing product for video production, it's cheaper than Sony Vegas pro 8, but ya can make almost the same work with vegas movie studio 9, .. so I love the price and the really rush delivery fro Amazon, to my home. It's a GREAT purchase.!!

"A great inexpensive way to create professional quality videos & presentations", Product does a great job of allowing you to edit and create. Does require some practice, since it does so much. I would recommend Movie Studio 9 to anyone who is serious and would like to be able to do some creative and unique presentations and videos. The Youtube feature is very convenient.

"Best Video Editing Software on Either Platform", I have played with them all, including doing a fair amount of work in iMovie.

Forget Ulead, forget Pinnacle, or whatver junk you are trying. Sony Vegas is easier to use, more powerful, rock-solid stable, features a built in "Show Me" feature which walks you through anything you'd want to do.

If you were locked in a room for one hour with a camera and software and had to make a basic movie, then walk over to the Mac and use iMovie. You'll be done with time to spare, and no headaches.

Once you have made a couple of movies, the limitations of iMovie will drive you nuts. Then, you graduate to Sony, and you never have to learn another program. It does it all. Intuitively and simply. Not as easy as iMovie, but substantially more powerful and worth the effort.

Pros: Very mature, stable, powerful and relatively easy to use, and cheap, considering all that comes in the bundle and how much you can do with the software.

Cons: Not as simple as iMovie. Only works on a PC.
