What our customer's say!
"Unstable Product", I bought this product as I currently using linsys WRTG54GS wireless link router which is working great, thought to get new router and this router is horrible, it works for a minute and then loose wireless connection, tried different configuration but at no avail....sending back for return...
"Terrible software, not pleased at all.", Opening the box, there are papers and stickers and warnings all over saying, "Install this disk first!" If you know what you're doing, you might skip this step outright.
The software immediately begins installing and talking to the router. There is no status showing what it's doing, there is no progress indicator. The application spins and spins and leaves you to hope it isn't doing anything you would rather it didn't. There seems to be no timeout or reporting system at all - so it will spin until it fails.
For me, this process repeated itself twice. I ran the install, waited for 15 minutes while it showed me it was working (but again, not indicating what it was doing or giving any real progress). At the end an Error occurred (again, not a single detail is reported, just instructions to turn it off and turn it on again).
Deciding this was a useless endeavor, I took the disk out and got into the router via IP. From there, it was semi smooth sailing. I had my addys and routes configured within half an hour.
"Stop - Don't Waste Your Money ", Okay, okay - I should have paid attention to the other reviews about this product. I am an IT pro and thought I wouldn't have the same issues. Okay - I was wrong. The router did setup nicely - no problems. I had a little signal loss now and then - but nothing special. But this morning - the 2.4 ghz band just died. That's right - died - I couldn't get it back. Did I mention I am an IT pro? Every device hooked up through the 2.4ghz band couldn't connect anymore. (2.4ghz is the main band.) Spent hours rebooting / reconfiguring etc. The 5 ghz band stayed up - no worries.
Other things to note about this:
Many people complain about heat - I had it on a glass desk - no heat problems. You might want to try a surface like this.
The USB for data drive is okay - requires passwords to be entered every time your computer books - kind of a pain.
5ghz is not powerful. If you have a long distance, you won't be able to use 5ghz - by the way, this seems to be true with all 5ghz routers, not just this one.
I owned the smaller gigabit version of this and returned it - didn't have as many issues, but only had that one for a week - wanted the storage usb this one has.
By the way, customer support is 100% worthless. When I told the "tech" that the 2.4ghz band dropped but I still was getting the 5ghz band - he asked what I was talking about. Told me there wasn't such a thing as a 5ghz band! Thought I was talking about a computer or something! Spent 30 min on hold, then 60 min with him. In 60 min time we did absolutely nothing (except bring up the router menu!)
I have always owned a Linksys - but had to return this. I just went out and bought a D-Link DIR-825. Has all the same bells and whistles, but so far it works! The 2.4ghz seems stronger - full bars 2 rooms away - the 5ghz about the same and ths Linksys. I haven't had any problems yet with this - but I guess time will tell. (The reviews here in Amazon are much better for the D-Link by the way.
If you are a die-hard Linksys guy like me, just be prepared to be disappointed. Sorry Linksys, but you messed up this one.
"So Far, So Good", I read the bad reviews on Amazon and elsewhere but decided to take a chance anyway. As my title says, so far, so good. I've got all the computers in my house hooked up to the 2.4 ghz band and my Xbox 360 hooked up to the 5 ghz band. Everything seems to be working perfectly. Setup was kind of a hassle, but that was not the router's fault. I had trouble refreshing the IP address of my cable modem because I neglected to take the battery out before unplugging it.
The 5 ghz band does not reach very far, but it seems to be doing a good job with the Wireless G adapter attached to my 360. Tomorrow I am going to buy the Linksys Wireless N gaming adapter and give that a go.
I'll update this review if my experience changes.
"Sexy, Functional, but weak", There are two radios - they both work independently. I thought that if I got this new fancy router that I could do away with the old two I had.
Turns out I still need a second one to cover my 2 story 2K SQF house... I have the router smack in the middle of the house.
Setup was a snap... I've never had to reboot it.

"Very good product", It works great. Setup was easy and there were no other issues. About 5 minutes after I got it out of the box i was using it.
"Best Wireless N Router in existence today.", This is without a doubt the best Wireless Router I have ever used. Considering the fact that I have experience with commercial Routers including Verizon high speed, Benkin, D-Link N and several other Home Office N Routers, but none came close to this Beast. It is truly a Monster. It is extremely easy to install. Security code can be change as often as you wish. The only con is price, a little expensive. I do not hesitate to give this unit a five star, 10 out of 10. Needless to say I do recommend this Router very highly.
"Works as advertised", I have been using a Linksys WRT150N for a little more than a year. I have been very happy with that router. However, we recently moved from a house to an apartment. In the house, we had no problems with wireless signal strength or interference. In the apartment, there are dozens of wireless networks in close range and this severely effects our signal strength. The quality of the network connection and the distance we can move from the router have been drastically reduced, making using the wireless network hit-or-miss - very frustrating.
The Linksys WRT610N works as advertised. This is actually 2 access points in one - a 5GHz access point and a 2.4 GHz access point. Both access points get their own SSID, wireless frequencies, and security settings. I have an Apple TV and two MacBooks all running on the 5GHz 802.11N network using WPA2. The Tivo, Wii, and 802.11G laptops run on the 2.4 GHz mixed network using WEP. All clients (B, G, and N) are running at much faster speeds. There seems to be much less interference from competing networks - especially for the 5GHz clients. The wired clients are also showing significant speed improvements thanks to the gigabit switch.
Hulu and Netflix "Watch Instantly" were unusable before I started using the WRT610N - now both stream effortlessly. Also, syncing video content to the Apple TV was slow and error-prone - now full length movies (1-2 GBs) sync in a few minutes.
The only downside of this router is the USB storage option. The FTP/SAMBA sharing preferences and the user/group settings are a bit confusing. I can tell all the right options are there, but I haven't gotten this working correctly yet. A first attempt resulted in a formatted disk (even though I didn't choose the disk formatting option). Linksys needs to release a firmware update that makes this USB storage functionality less clunky. Once that happens, this device and a USB hard-drive will allow users a very affordable NAS option.
"WT610N and DMA2200 tricky to setup", I had a problem with the first WRT610N that was shipped to me. After many hours on the chat line, and not being able to get the USB attached storage to appear on my network(Vista Home Premium), they sent me another new unit. That one worked extremely well and I've been using it for a week. I've even done a disk image backup of a portable over the `G' network to the USB attached drive. The Linksys support line is 866-509-7452 but I found the chat to be very good. Make sure you have your serial number as they will ask for that. I primarily bought the unit to use with a Linksys DMA2200 Media Extender. That did not go well either but Linksys was very helpful over the phone and after many setting changes, that unit is also working very well. Settings on the router to make DMA2200 work include: Basic Wireless - Set to Manual, Disable 5 GHz, Set 2.4 GHz Network Mode to Mixed, Set Radio Band to Wide, Set Wide Channel to 6, set Standard channel to 8 Set Wireless security to WPA2-Personal Advanced Wireless Settings: (on both channels) Disable Frame Burst, Set Beacon Interval to 50, RTS Threshold to 2304 On the DMA2200, go to setting and reset to factory defaults under General Tab, walk through the setup screens. Then go to your PC and add the media Extender. Then power off the extender, Power off router for 1 minute. The power on router, Reboot PC, power on Extender and everything worked for me. Once everything is working, you can go back to the router setup and enable the 5Ghz channel which now will work well with the media extender.
"Works as described", This is a great product from Linksys. I followed the instructions about of the box, and it works as described. No dropped connections, no other problems.
