"COD World at War falls short "
I have been a fan of the Call of Duty series from the beginning and have owned and played every new release. Like every other COD fan I was anxious for this new release. Now... I am really disappointed.

The game installs and plays fine for me... no technical problems (out of the norm) to speak of.

It falls short in game play and fun. As with Treyarch's other "masterpiece", Call of Duty 3, this one falls short. By now Activision should know that Infinity Ward knows what works. Had Infinity Ward developed this game (like they did COD 2 and 4), even in a WWII setting, I think it would have been a success instead of the disappointment it is.

Don't let me understate the game... it is "good," just not great like we had come to expect from Call of Duty. Both 2 and 4 are destined to become all time classics, while 3 and 5 are mostly forgettable.

I still play the game, and if you're a die hard Call of Duty fan you'll buy this game no matter what we write here. Just take the advice and don't expect COD 4 greatness, and you'll likely enjoy it.

I can't put my finger on the why. Something about the game play just doesn't feel right... the maps and plot, along with weapons and graphics are good, just doesn't deliver for ME. Others may thoroughly enjoy it.

I might add that my 14 year old son, who also love the series, feels the same. Comments from others I know who play express similar sentiments. Infinity Ward, thankfully, is developing the next release and so we have something to look forward to.



"Unplayable "
I've bought and played every previous COD game and had no problems. This one won't play. Black screen. I have the hardware and updated drivers required on the box but apparently some nuance of video card means it shows a black screen while you can hear the music and even clicks as the mouse passes over options.

I tried asking their support web address about it but no response. I even tried the various "fixes" suggested on web forums with no luck. Probably the worst rip off in gaming software I've ever experienced, as even terrible games usually at least work. Now I can see why so many feel justified in copying games, since you can't return opened software and this company has succeded in stealing money from apparently thousands of buyers with no apparent concern.

I will never buy a new COD product again, as I don't enjoy being ripped off. I read the bad reviews and still took a chance on this game. I wish I had listened.

"Terrible"
This game is terrible. The graphics are not any better than the previous call of duty, The language is very offensive, it takes you back to WW2, so the weaponry isn't as advanced as Call of Duty 4, and the tank control is jerky and irregular...The entire game is a giant step backward from COD4...It sucks!

"More of the same"
This game simply more of the same. It's just another WWII shooter, one of dozens. The graphics are pretty good on my midrange system, and gameplay is solid, but it's nothing special. If you've played COD 2 or 4, gameplay is pretty much identical (never played COD3). It's got a slightly different setting--asian theater and the Russian advance into Berlin--but there's nothing new here.
Single player is a polished experince, but apart from graphics, it's almost indistinguishable from COD2. I'd say it took maybe 10-15 hours to beat single player on the regular difficulty setting. Multiplayer is fine, but I can't say that I'd play this over COD4 as far as that goes. It really is just another WWII shooter. It isn't a bad one, but it isn't fantastic either. There's really not much distinguishing this game in the crowded WWII shooter group.

"AWESOME..I don't get all the negative reviews on this game"
I can't believe all the negative ratings this game has been getting. I'm halfway through and I've been having a blast. I think the flame thrower and bayonette melee attacks are a nice new touch to the series. I love how the Japanese soldiers charge at you screaming Bonsaiii!! lol...Graphics are incredible and I'm playing at 1900 x 1200 with no issue using an 8800GT 512mb card. Grant it the game feels a little rigid compared to Call of Duty 4 and I'm not too crazy about the invisible barriers that keep you from doing your own flank but the game is still a lot of fun to play. For that I take off only one star which to me is fair. People are rating this game based on comparisons to COD4 which I am not sure is fair. COD4 is an incredible accomplishment but that does not mean World at War should be rated at one or two stars becuz it doesn't fully measure up. It still provides the thrills and entertainment with great graphics and some nice new touches to the genre. I paid $30 for it which I think is a bargain. Give this game a shot. I'm glad I did and I'm sure glad I didnt let all the negative reviews sway me from purchasing this title.

UPDATE: I'm almost finished and I could say without reservation this is the best COD game I've played yet. From a technical standpoint COD 4 may be better but for fun factor and excitement this game beats it. I did not get any of the game "glitches" or problems with install that some people claim to have had. And regarding the complaints about the sound..what the !@#$% are all you people talking about..this game has incredible music and sound effects. Give me a break people. I'm beginning to think people on amazon are a bunch of whiners. If your a fan of the COD franchise..do yourself a favor and buy this game. DO NOT take any of these negative reviews too seriously.
