"a super deee duper game :)"
this game was super!!! i have to say, however, that when nancy walks around she looks weird and kinda stupid, but the game and the puzzles was fun. the puzzle style was kind of like blackmoor manor, and the culprit...well, let me say that the end was not at all how i expected it! this game is worth paying the kaching bling bling for, baby! i loved it and so will you! whoop de doo!

"Nancy Drew Does it Again!"
The Haunting of Castle Malloy is another well thought out programmed PC Game! I have never been disappointed with any of the Nancy Drew Series and this one is no exception. Again it educates in a most poignant way about the area or location of the world you are at. I literally had to search the internet to learn how to play and score in darts! And now I know how to play darts. I became quite the "Mixer" when I had to serve at the Irish Pub. Some parts are a wee bit tricky lass, like once you program the jet pack. If you are not in the location the game somehow needs you to be at you will explode and die but come back to life often.lol Also when you are jet packing about I thought I could fly up into the heavens...not so I lost fuel and had to be given another chance. Look I am an adult and I never leave any nancy Drew game without learning something about a part of the world i did not know. As usually I suggest you to purchase this game you will never be bored or disappointed. I did need the walkthrough on certain areas mostly getting to the hut in the bog. I died a lot of times then also but was given a chance at re-birth. Getting the chemicals in the right bins was a real "BLAST" literally. I blew myself up and many and several occasions but after being blown to smithereens I soon caught on just how cautious I must handle those chemicals. Nancy Drew Series Rule for sure! I am awaiting series 20!!! Take the Adventure and head on to Ireland!!!

"Review of Castle Malloy"
It caught my interest right away with the lady in white going across the road. It was a good mystery to solve and yeah it was pretty scary in parts but all in all a very good game and a very good way to spend a couple of hours if you have the time to do it. I recommend it. It keeps you on your toes

"MUCH better than The Phanton of Venice"
This game was MUCH BETTER than the Phantom of Venice. A lot of fun puzzles and figuring out the mystery. I have all the Nancy Drew games and this one is one of the best!

"a bit short"
My only complaint with this game is that I wish it had been longer. The graphics are great, the puzzles fun. The chemicals puzzle took me awhile to master but after creating countless explosions, I finally got the hang of it. I wasn't expecting the surprise near the end which was a fine twist. Recommended. Next time it's off to the Bahamas, can't wait!

What our customer's say!

"Fun, but doesn't live up to the others", fisrt of all, let me start by saying the Nancy Drew games are awesome. however, this game was a bit boring for me; not as exciting as the others. although there was some mystery, it didn't do a whole heck of a lot. in other words, it was good, but not great like the other ones. a bit too short, in my opinion.

"As usual another Her interactive success!", I enjoy the fact that the Nancy Drew games appeal to all ages and sexes. I even got my older brother interested in them. I Play them with my grandchildren and it has been a real bonding experience, I am 54 years old and my grandchildren are 10 and 7. I also appreciate the fact that they are full of learning tools, not just fun and games. I enjoy the fact that they are based in different places around the world which gives you an incite to other places and people, my grandson even trys to copy the accents of the different characters. This one, based in Ireland is especially special to me because my ancesters came from Ireland. My great, great grandfather came to America on ship. I hope you continue to handle games of this nature and keep the violence, cussing, and sleeziness out of childplay. Children and Adults deserve wholesome and relaxing enjoyment. I am even thinking of trying the Hardy boys and Sherlock Holmes games you have in stock. Thank You. R Pitts

"Good for all ages.", I'm 32 years old, and I really love the Nancy Drew games. I've been hooked on them from the first time I heard about them. I highly recommend this game to anyone.

"New favorite", I've played all but 3 of the Nancy Drew games (Secretes, Old Clock and White Wolf). The Haunting of Castle Malloy is now my new favorite. It was formerly Train to Blue Moon Canyon.

I enjoyed the visuals (eerie night scene of an old Irish castle perched on the ocean next to a garden, a barn and a bog), the new map that allows you to actually walk around the proprety rather than just pointing and clicking on a new destination, the lack of tedious chores or repetitive mazes that is typical of previous games, the more interesting and brief dialog with other characters that doesn't bore you, the multitude of many different puzzles rather than a few large ones, and the general story line.

Normally, I am ready for a game to end, but this one had so many twists and turns that I was actually sad when it ended.

Castle Malloy is a bit like Curse at Blackmoor Manor in tone and manner, but less frustrating because you don't have to go up and down stairs ad nauseum.

"One of the Best", I am a big Nancy Drew Mystery games fan. Some have been okay and others mediocre. This one is one of the best. The story line is interesting and being able to see Nancy is fun. Some of the puzzles were hard and I needed a walkthrough, but that is okay. I was glad not to have to make meals over and over again like on another recent game. That kind of thing really interrupts the flow of the game. This one went along smoothly and the puzzles were integral parts of the game. Looking forward to the next one which is supposed to include Bess and George

"Awesome!", This was so much fun! Lots of puzzles in this one. Very challenging...for me anyway. Sadly had to use a few hints to get through it all but i am def going to go back and play again. These games get better each time. I often wish they lasted longer! :(

"Not very scary", This game is not very scary. Weird, bizarre, yes. Scary, no. Most of the time is spent in puzzleland, so if you like puzzles, you'll probably really like this game. The characters, with the exception of the old caretaker, are not very interesting. The graphics are good, but the game takes place entirely at night, and the darkness adds little to the scare factor, which gets low marks from me. Her Interactive really hyped this game as really scary, but it was not. Without spoiling the ending, let's just say the story is very sad. Some of the tasks are fun, but the "mystery" takes a bizarre turn & I found it to be rather depressing. I really enjoyed "The Legend of the Crystal Skull," and didn't think this game came even close to measuring up in terms of the plot, characters or tasks.

"Game or Rocket Science?????", I love Nancy Drew. I own the complete Set of pc games and this one had to be one of the hardest ones I played. It is also a little spookie, I got the chills a couple of times playing it. There is alot of science in this game. If your bad at science you will need help with this game. But over all it was fun. It took me about a week to finish it. (Normally the games last me 2 to 3 days)

"Enjoyable Game, But It Does Not Live Up To It's True Potential", Nancy Drew 19: The Haunting Of Castle Malloy

-Before I Begin...
My review will be spilt up into sections and have a in-depth look at that topic. If you hate reading medium/long reviews or just don't have the patience I would not continue reading, but if you want to learn the most about the product before you buy it you'll continue.

-Interface
The interface is the same as always, point in the direction you want to go in a and click. However, moving around the castle grounds is through a third person view which offsets the whole "I'm Nancy Drew!" feel. But don't worry it's only when your outside in the dark so you never see Nancy, just a figure pretty much. What stupifies me is that Nancy talks on her cellphone in the opening scene but she loses it somehow and we have to use a payphone, so there is no cell phone icon in the interface. This interface is great, the only thing that bugged me was the third person affect when outside the Castle of Malloy.

-Plot
In this adventure, Nancy is off to Ireland as the maid of honor to Kyler Malloy, who is getting married to Matt Simmons in a couple days. But when Nancy arrives, Kyler says that Matt has vanished! It is up to Nancy Drew to find Matt and save the wedding. The plot is good but they could have emphasized different parts more. Like the fact that Kyler and Kit Foley (Matt's best friend) were a couple before. Sadly, there is very little drama about this love triangle (maybe because all the Nancy Drew games are quite modest). Very little of the castle history is revealed as well. The fact that half the castle is blown to pieces is interesting but not much more information is given on why it is blown up. I think the basics of the plot are there, but more development could have gone into it.
***

-Characters
There are four characters, each with different personalities, in this game. However, since one is missing, there are really only three characters. The character development and interaction was dissapointing. The backgrounds of each character are very briefly revealed and only one character stood out. Your bride to be is Kyler Malloy, who recently found out her family heritage. She is sweet and kind but not much else to her, she believes that Matt's dissapearence is a prank. Then there is Kit Foley, who is Matt's best friend. Kit is in the real estate business, and unfortunately even more boring than Kyler. He doesn't have much personality and simply believes that Matt has walked out on Kyler. Finally there is Donal, an old Irishman who is stubborn and quite a hoot to listen to. He is the caretaker and believes that "faeries" have taken Matt because he is not Irish. I would talk about Matt, but you don't see him until the end of the game, which is rather dissapointing. It would have been nice to at least meet Matt in the begining before mysteriously vanishing. Overall, the characters seemed to be irrelevant to the game at all because you hardly talked to them. The game could have been outstanding if they just developed the characters more.

-Setting & Graphics
First off, the graphis were amazing. However, everything else was completely wrong. I found it completely crazy that the game took place in ONE NIGHT! I thought Nancy was supposed to be there for a week or so, but no. This time constraint really affected the game. It was so dark and gloomy the whole game that you could not see Ireland's beautiful landscape when outside. There was a lot of places to go, but it was completely barren! The castle had only three rooms for you to explore: the Great room, the Library, and the Nursery. And each of those rooms had very little to read, touch or look at. It would have been nice if Nancy had her own room (It is a castle for heaven's sake! It should be pretty big inside, am I right?), but apparently everyone sleeps in cots in the Great room. Did I mention the Great room has a huge hole in it from the explosion years ago? The outside grounds and the Screaming Banshee Inn are also pretty barren as well. There is virtually nothing to snoop in, no historical documents about the castle, no artwork to admire, nothing. Extremely dissapointing, I would give this section two stars but the graphics are so amazing that it gets that extra star.

-Puzzles/Activities
The puzzles were outstanding! Most of the puzzles were original, challenging and thought provoking. This is the highlight of the game. If you liked Crystal Skull's puzzles you'll like these ones a lot. I really enjoyed the fact that there was always something for you to do. If you ever needed a break form the puzzles, you can go to the Inn and play minigames. None of the puzzles were randomly thrown in, they all made sense. There are chores, but you don't have to repeat them everyday (Mainly because the game is all in one night). And the chores are easy, fun, and make sense in the game. Overall, the puzzles made this game, without them, I would not reccomend this game.
*****

-Scare Factor
This is a new section that covers the scariness of the game. The mood was dark and gloomy, and you would always here an erie wailing (from an alleged Banshee). The Nursery in the castle was downright creepy to be in. There were one or two startling moments, especially as the game climaxed. I think the scariness was on a good level, not to scary but not too mild.
****

-Ending
Unfortunatley, the ending was abrupt like some previous games, but what was refreshing was that there was no timed puzzles or racing through mazes. You could take your time at the end, find/question Matt and finish the game peacefully. In fact, the ending puzzles were some of the easiest in the whole game, which was a let down after all you have been doing throughout the game to win. But you might be dissapointed with how Matt vanished, I was pretty dissapointed. Since the plot wasn't brilliantly detailed or anything, the resolution could be explained without leaving any facts or problems hanging in the air.
***

-Overall
I'm not going to lie I did enjoy the game, and I will be seeing myself playing it again and again. But it doesn't give you that "wow" factor that Phantom Of Venice gave me. It seemed like it wasn't all the way developed. Potentially, it could have been the best game in the series if they just developed the plot, characters, and setting more. Hardcore Nancy Drew fans may find that something is missing, but there is plenty good in this game to buy it. I would recommend this for its puzzles and its scare factor (Perfect for Halloween night). Nancy's next adventure is Ransom Of The Seven Ships, which includes Bess & George! Sounds promising!

Add all these up and divide by 7...
4 *'s (Interface)
3 *'s (Plot)
3 *'s (Characters)
3 *'s (Setting & Graphics)
5 *'s (Puzzles/Activites)
4 *'s (Scare Factor)
3 *'s (Ending)
= 25 Stars Divide By 7 (Categories) = 3.5 = Rounded to 3 Stars

Thanks for reading my review!

"Love those Nancy Drew games", I enjoyed this game very much. I have played all of the Nancy Drew games by Her Interactive. The last few games I played felt rushed and I did not enjoy them as much as previous games. The Haunting of Castle Malloy goes back to the original fun of the earlier games. The story line was great and did not feel rushed. The puzzles were fresh, new, and challenging. These games are great for all ages. I anxiously await the next one.
