Others say...
"Rosetta Stone Review" I like the approach. At first I thought the new vocabulary was coming a little slowly, but I soon realized that I was learning so much more than just vocabulary.
"Believe the hype." With all the commercials on tv for this thing you would figure it was all hoplah. Well, with the perfect interface, the included headphones and the voice and video support, I would consider this the perfect way to learn any language. Optional cds are included so you don't have to be planted in front of your computer the whole time. However, you'll get the most out of this with the picture and video software. Good luck!
"The Best Spanish all-inclusive program, ever" Apprehension finally put aside, I'm learning!
Runs perfectly on my Apple and takes a small commitment of about an hour a day to get up to speed. NO problems on updates, etc. and only wished that I'd have loaded it onto a laptop for daily "downtime" practicing, because I'd be miles ahead just working in public. ROSETTA STONE SPANISH is the best of the best!
An all-inclusive BOX of gear and lessons that teach very simply and clearly. Choose your level of learning options and wire yourself in: my nephew thinks it rocks and navigates through it with ease, so this is perfect for a wide range of ages and aptitude.
I practice on one of my friends at work, which always is a good thing and welcomed. The sign of respect anywhere on the planet is to try to speak the language, and here it is, an amazing multi-level program that IF YOU KEEP PRACTICING will make you great at Spanish. It can work for more than one user, so do so! Voice ID makes it REALLY work! This is a very complete suite of courses; commit and you'll rock. Even after just a level, I can order food (with a smile for the effort) and converse pretty well. And, best, a kid can do this (although I'm catching up to my kid who absorbed Spanish).
I'm still using it, and this review has no negatives yet! If this old guy can learn it, make the $$$ commitment and go for it. Your confidence will soar!
"Excellent learning tool actually makes learning a language fun." I had a slight advantage, as I started using this product, because I had a basic working knowledge of the Spanish language. I'm in my 40's now, but I studied Spanish in my junior high and high-school years. Although it may be true that you never forget how to ride a bike, a language that languishes is soon forgotten. My Spanish has grown mighty rusty.
I had no idea at all what to expect from Rosetta Stone. Studying Spanish in school was, needless to say, an academic exercise, and I still remember my early days, learning the pronunciation of Spanish vowels and some of the other letters (like ñ) that are not used in the English language. I imagined the process of learning those same things on a computer being exceedingly boring.
To my surprise, Rosetta Stone skips those basic language lessons, and skips right to, well, total immersion. The entire program is in Spanish, without English text or translations beyond those on the menu page. Rosetta Stone teaches with pictures; you learn to associate Spanish words with familiar pictures. And you do so over and over again.
The program "mixes up" the lessons enough to keep them interesting. It can use a microphone (included) to check your pronunciation; it shows plenty of pictures for you to choose from for each Spanish word, and includes lessons on spelling and sentence structure as well.
I have not completed levels 1-3 yet, but I can give Rosetta Stone my unqualified "thumbs up."
"Missing a cd and recieved 2 of another" I am very satisfied with the quality of the product. The instructions for installation are clear and simple to follow. The program is fantastic. I am however, still trying to get someone to send me the cd that I am missing from the set that I purchased brand new.

What our customer's say!
"Version 2 - Nonsensical Program Design", Wow - is the new version of Rosetta Stone horrible. The logic that is used to go from lesson to lesson is utterly nonsensical and mind boggling. No prompts telling you to speak, listen, type - its tough enough to learn a language - never mind trying to figure out what the program wants you to do. If you are an older person who is not computer savvy - you're plain out of luck. Obviously there was ZERO/ZED user testing done on this sad excuse for a software program. Its confusing and I highly DO NOT recommend battling with this crap. Stay away.
"Overpriced piece of junk!", If you considering buying this, then my warning- don't! You will lose a lot of money for nothing. You can buy a good dictionary, paper grammar and spend some time with spanish speaking people. That will be more effective and cheaper. Don't get into hype that you will learn much with this program- celebrity endorsements are simply funny and just proves that this program is useless. Check out on Rosetta Stone website what Michael Phelps has to say. You have to understand that he will endorse anything what pays him. I don't blame him, but in a video he admits that he DID NOT learned much using this software. $500 dollars might be pocket change for him (he didn't paid anyway), but not for me. So this is part one of software review. If it costed $20 I would say give a try and use other means to learn language.
Second part deals with software itself. I can say that it is quite unfinished. It has problems with microphone, antivirus software. Also you can use it only on two computers. It constantly tries to update itself even after you check DO NOT update tab.
So my advice- save your money. Get paper dictionary and grammar. Take some classes, speak with people in their native language, read periodicals.
"A different way to learn a language", I purchased spanish(castilian, spain) about a year ago, though this isn't Latin American spainish, I would imagine that this is still very similar.
This is definitely a different, new way to learn a language. It breaks away from the usual workbooks, flashcards and cd's/tapes. What is good about RS is that it makes learning more fun and less tedious. I actually look forward to putting on my headset and learning new material. I think that is the strongest point about RS, it doesn't bore you. And if you want to learn a language, you must be persistent and motivated. It's very hard to be like that through workbooks, classes, etc.
I'm on level 3 now and I have learned a lot. RS is most practical through conversational spanish, however you will not learn all the grammar rules through RS alone. RS doesn't explain the grammatical rules, you must learn it on your own. Without an explanation, its near impossible to learn ALL the rules. That is it's downfall, you cannot become fluent, but you can develop pretty good knowledge of it. To be fluent, you need to buy seperate workbooks that explain all the congugations and other grammar rules.
So if you want to learn spanish as quickly as possible, with decent language grammar, and have more of a "fun" experience with it then RS is a good choice. However, if you want to become fluent (or at least very solid grammar) then you must get extra workbooks, material that explains the grammar rules completely. With the combination of both, you are one an excellent path to learning spanish quickly and effectively.
"Love it.", I had tried it out at a friends house and liked the way it worked out. Have been using it for a while. Is nice. I have learned some. Still have a long way to go but it is teaching me. Companion cd is nice to hear the words later too. USB microphone works good.
"rosetta stone", great easy to use - the only issue is the headset/microphone was broken - sent request for new one did not get reply

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Proven methodology that we are sold on", We've used Rosetta Stone's products for several different language studies. Their methodology works. It's odd because as you complete your first lesson or two you find yourself thinking this can't teach me this language but before you know it you're gaining proficiency. Make no mistake, there is no substitute for time and effort and learning any foreign language requires committment. But, if you're willing to put in the consistent time and effort you will/can/should learn with this product.
"great learning tool", my son who is flunking in spanish....seems to actually like using this method and is learning
"I love this program - Husband learned in 10 minutes", I purchased Rosetta Stone @ the website. The 6 month online subscription. I did so because I didn't want the CD's just lying around the house. If I only have 6 months - I better get at it. I am a teacher myself and from that perspective, I absolutely love it. It's fun, and the teach style makes "sense". Now, I have taken Spanish 101 and listened to a Berlitz Rush Hour Spanish so I didn't know if that helped or hindered in my progress. So I gave it to my hubby who has only "Sesame Street" Spanish - if you get my drift. He was able to pick up at least 20 sentences - speak, listen and respond within 10 minutes. A few days later I quizzed him and he still remembered. He could care less about learning Spanish. He was just being my guinea pig. So I know that it does work. It may not be everything you need to really know the language but it's an interesting twist from the boring repetitive classes at schools.
"Rosetta Stone", Rosetta Stone Version 3: Spanish (Latin America) Level 1, 2 & 3 Set with Audio Companion
I have tried the Rosetta Stone now for over a month. I do know a few phrases. It is easy to follow. Little disappointed in the program not sharing the english version of anything said. Also, the headset that comes with the product either works too well or not well enough. The voice recognition part of it I feel doesn't work as well as it should.
I feel this product does however do what it seeks to do: immerse you in the language to learn it. This is ok for speaking, not writing. Its hard to learn placement and spelling of verbs, adjectives, and nouns without an explaination.
The audio companion is not worth $50, so if you can find it cheaper- do so!
"Well worth the money", I have now had the Spanish program for a few months now and I must say that my Spanish has improved. The lessons are put together well and they seemed to walk me through nicely. I did not feel the pressure of trying to learn Spanish as if I was in a classroom. Being able to set my own pace was nice. To be fair, I had taken 4 years of Spanish 20+ years ago in high school. So much of that knowledge came back to me as I was going through these lesson.
I would definitely reccomend this program to anyone who wants to put the time in to learn Spanish well. This is not a quick solution, but if you are patient and stick with the program it will pay off immensely.
