Others say...
"Wow, easy to use and ready in seconds" I just bought this a week ago for my 70 year old mom. I was hesitant becasue it is a little more then I wanted to spend, but I love the machine. Large display but small footprint. My mom loves the touchscreen and learning to like it more every minute. I would recommend to everybody. I personnally like the tv tuner and the TIVO type of use, but doubt my mom will use it.
I will check back in several months to see if it hold up.
"Mostly Good" I got my Touchsmart about six weeks ago and like it pretty well. It is easy for my kids to use, which is one of the main reasons we got it. I also use it for our main TV just because its on the right level and easy to use there. One day the channel kept changing and we didn't know what was going on until my seven-year-old realized there was a fly walking around on the screen! No complaints about the sensitivity of the touch screen :) The biggest problem I've had with it is the TV tuner connector. I connected the coaxial cable to it and it never seemed to fit right, and it kept getting fuzzy because I couldn't connect it correctly. Eventually the TV tuner connectin piece broke lose out of the machine and was hanging by a wire out of the computer. It seems as if a piece is loose, or they need to include an adaptor that makes a better connection to regular coaxial cbles. It is off to HP today or tomorrow to get fixed under warranty.
"Very pleased with the HP TouchSmart" I've had many different conventional desktop and laptop computers in the last 20 years.
I've been using a Dell 17' laptop that I like, but I wanted a larger screen without the clutter of a conventional desktop.
The "all in one" computers offered everything I was looking for. I found four manufactures that offered "all in ones", Apple, Sony, Dell and HP.
I decided on the HP IQ506 TouchSmart and I am really happy with this unit. Extremely clear 22" display, wireless mouse and keyboard, built in speakers.
Clean look, the entire computer, display and speakers are one unit.
I have not used the touch screen feature much but may find it convient in the future.
I have recommend this computer to my friends.
"HP upgrade for me" Love it and thinking about buying the newest 800 series for my son's room. He would then have a tv, computer for his gaming and for his projects without too many electronic componenets. It took awhile to get all the updates(automatically of course), but once all were installed (about 2 days) all programs worked beautifully. I will still buy a new all-in-one printer, wireless of course, to complete my system.
"Not too bad" I got this from a relative who had it for 3 weeks and bought a 24" iMac, I have had it for 5 weeks, it works as any PC. A week ago something happened to the touch screen and now it's not working, not that I really need it but still. Also had some problems with the wireless keyboard which sometimes would not respond to any key stroke, now it seems to be fine, but I'm finding myself using my old wired keyboard that seems to have touch that I like.
I just started "remastering" my old 8mm family videos, but maybe because of the camcorder seemed to have a problem (Canon HV20) I couldn't transfer the videos from my Sony deck. I ended up going back to the original owner with my video gear. Everything worked in his computer just fine and the iMovie got bunch of my videos uploaded to the net automagically. Now I need to find somebody to fix my set up, or just wait and buy the next generation iMac. It's not as straight forward to use a PC for combining different media as there is no iLife type suite (a kind of MS Office to handle your photos, music and video), but this had Vegas Movie Studio installed and it's definitely good enough for me.
The fact that the display is not full HD bothers me a bit but I can live with it. The 500GB HD is nice but even nicer is the Firewire connector, I have a 1TB HD for backups and video, and the HD camcorder hooks up directly in it.
Overall this HP is quite good, but the iMac seems to be more future proofed and runs Vista better, I think it's cheaper too. I will stick with HP though, it was free (well, I swapped it to an old HP oscilloscope), and I have always liked HP stuff.

What our customer's say!
"Next Generation", Thoroughly enjoying the touch screen and also the performance of this machine. All in one design allows many placement choices, and TV can be hooked into it directly via cable. Large HD screen is beautiful for pics.
"HP TouchSmart - Avoid HP Products at all costs!!", If you value your sanity, avoid buying HP products. I made the mistake of buying an HP TouchSmart IQ504t PC and it has never worked. When it arrived, the system booted badly and never was able to work effectively. The touch screen did not work and neither did the wireless mouse. It turns out that the batteries which were sent with the system were bad. After putting new batteries in the mouse, I still could not get the touch screen to work. After considerable phone time with technical support, it turns out that the cameras running the screen were defective. I had to wait to have HP arrange the return, wait to have the system repaired, and wait for the computer to be sent back. When it arrived, the case was damaged and the computer had to be returned again. If you want a computer that actually works, buy anything but HP. I had a similar experience with an HP printer, so my feeling is that defective products are the norm at HP.
"Great all-in-one computer at a great price", My wife and I decided to buy the HP Touchsmart IQ506 to use in the kitchen to help us stay organized. Our kitchen has a built-in granite desk with no holes for wiring. At first I was planning to get a mini-ITX, but when I came across this product, it looked perfect. My wife and I have used it for about 3 weeks and are very happy with it. The unit looks great and every detail about it makes it convenient and easy to use.
First, about the touch screen--it is different technology from a typical tablet PC. On the plus side, the screen can accept input from any form of touch. However, this means you can't rest your hand on the screen for stability--even when using a stylus. So you have a lot less precision. There is also no pressure sensitivity--just on or off. On my older tablet PC, I can draw just as naturally as with a pencil and paper, but on the Touchsmart, it takes effort just to write my name or draw a stick figure. This type of touch screen is ideal for pressing buttons or dragging things around but not for writing or drawing. It's main strength is that you can perform simple tasks without pulling out a mouse or keyboard or even a stylus. (If you plan to use a stylus to draw or write, I'd recommend a tablet instead). The screen also supports two simultaneous touch points, but since there doesn't seem to be much software that uses it, the multitouch is a little hard to appreciate--but neat to have though.
The display is large, bright and crisp. The speakers are surprisingly loud and clear for their size. But obviously if you want deep base you'd want to get external speakers (on the back there is a line out and a digital coax out).
The Touchsmart applications that come preinstalled look very sleek and are easy to use. The calendar and notes applications allowed us to get rid of the whiteboard, calendar and magnetic stickies that were cluttering our refrigerator--our number one reason for buying the computer. Except for basic kinds usage, their functionality is a bit limited, but they are fun to use though. The "slide show" function of the photo application looks especially good on the large display.
A few problems I ran into...
1. When I first turned on the computer, the touch screen didn't work. I tried everything, rebooting, etc. The calibration wouldn't even work. I figured my unit was defective and was about to call HP, but then I tried running my finger along the inside edges of the screen, which caused it to suddenly start working. Since then it's been working fine.
2. I also had a problem with the volume control on the right side of the screen. One time while holding it down to turn the volume all the way up, it apparently got stuck (volume kept going up). It wasn't stuck physically, but behaved as though it was. Rebooting didn't fix it; I had to unplug the power. This only happened once.
3. When I first tried Windows Media Center, the performance was quite bad (hard drive churning and freezing up), but after a day or two, it seemed to work better.
Overall though, I have to say I'm really satisfied with this product. The unit isn't perfect but it does a great job filling a specific need. And for the price, you can't beat it.
"Great buy", The item is better than expected great for my wife, she didn't like computers and now it's all she use. The company that I got it from very helpful and quick to respond. I will recomend this company
"I'm glad I didn't listen!", My Dell Demension 8300 was a great computer, but it finally gave up the ghost after 5 years. I went to the local computer store to look at replacement possibilities, and found the IQ504. I uncharacteristically bought the unit immediately and am very happy with it.
None of the complaints that I have read here have been an issue for me. The computer has worked perfectly since I took it out of the box. Maybe I'll discover something annoying in the future, but all is well now. DVDs play great, my music sounds wonderful, display is clear and sharp, touch screen operates elegantly. The only reason I penalized it one star is because it only has a 320 gig hard drive. These days every computer should have a 500 gig unit minimum. A 1 terrabyte external drive corrected that shortcoming.
If this thing continues to exceed my expectations I will probably buy another TouchSmart (the IQ516) to replace my television. I think it would make a nice centerpiece for a small scale home entertainment center.
I'm glad I bought this thing BEFORE reading the negative comments here!

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Yeah but..", I can't get over the short life span of LCD screens. I work at a hospital where we use only those screens and they all crap out at almost the same time, over and over.
Now granted,we have them on all the time..but still. The incredible brightness starts to fade and then it's all she wrote.
"Finally a User Friendly PC", This is what a PC should be. Touch screen is intuitive. Design is beautiful and setup couldn't have been simpler. Just plug in the power cord and follow the prompts. Aesthecially, HP has also hit a home run. The display is fantastic and the piano black finish fits the modern day flat-screen TV look. No one should have a problem with this PC looking like a piece of hardware in their living room or elsewhere. The HD TV tuner also works great once you connect the antenna.
About the only gripe I'd have is that Vista will not run some older software very well. I've mainly had problems with some kids' software which will likely force me to buy some new programs for the 3-year old since she can't use her older siblings' hand-me-down software. This is not an HP problem, though.
"HP Touch Review", Overall I liked the product, it really did eliminate the clutter around the desk. The screen is big and beautifull. There seem to be quite a few "glitches" i.e. for no reason the mouse (wireless) will lose connectivity. The same for the Keyboard (also wireless). Less than one month after I purchased it, the whole PC crashed hard and I was unable to recover. I am waiting on packaging to send it back to HP to get fixed. More than just a little irritating.
"Amazing Technology - Nice Machine", I recently purchased the TouchSmart IQ506. Setup was very easy, just extend the support arm, plug it in and in about 15 minutes it sets itself up (with a little input from you) and it's ready to go. I use this computer in my family room which is perfect for it. We play a lot of casual games such as find-an-item and "Diner Dash" type games, and the touchscreen works incredibly well with these and the kids love it.
One note of caution is that after it was finished setting up, it was a little slow when loading things and playing DVDs. On a hunch I uninstalled the Norton Antivirus software that came bundled and installed a different free one, and it ran much faster and worked much better. I've never been a fan of bundled software.
I don't know how often I will use the different TouchSmart software applications, preferring to use Windows Media Center with the remote (which also works with touchscreen), but they seemed very user-friendly, easy-to-use and attractive.
Overall, a capable machine with some very nice features at a decent price.
"my amazon purchase", Everything so far for our puchasse has been terrific. We received our purchase in three days. Have no complaints with Amazon or our HP Touchsmart.
