Others say...
"Do not take this book seriously." This book is a fun read only. Do not take this book too seriously. If you are interested in losing weight, look elsewhere. However, there are a couple of recipies in the back that were pretty tasty.
"Good Read, Ok Advice" it was easy and fun to read and had a lot of good advice. the only draw back is that i'm not as rich as the stars and can not do a lot of the things they can do or pay for. main thing is getting more fiber and i have done that. it has a lot of little changes you can do and does offer some couragement to get going but it's just hard if you don't have money to put in to it. i am glad i got it and i'll read it again and may pass it onto family.
"Black Book of Hollywood Diet Secrets" I like the fact that they personally asked a bunch of fitness people their advise on how to stay trim or cut extra corners on weight loss. Also, the fact that a lot of interesting movie stars have the same concerns as us regular folk, is pretty cool.
"HOLLYWOOD DIET SECRETS" This book was fabulous. I really took the advice into my own hands and made my own diet and excercise that works for me. I also have been working out every day religiously...and eating way better than ever before. I suggest that if you are really looking for some advice to lose weight or to stay fit, than please read this book. It really works, and its hilarious.
"Good read. Helps keep you centered. No miracles promised." Sorry if you're looking to drop weight instantly by doing some amazing trick. Still the usual, eat less, exercise cardio and strength training, and walking or running additionally. There are a few other fun tips, and yeah, I liked hearing that the georgous starlets and models have to work at it. When you hear some say, "I eat whatever I want", and you want to spit on them... well, this book makes it seem that just isn't the case. They work their tushies off. Again, some good realistic tricks offered, and nothing trying to make you starve yourself. That's an entirely different book. But, caloric concern is addressed. Calories do add the weight. Made me think, if I want to be amazingly thin, that's going to take a lot of exercise, a lot of discipline, not much bad food - if any, and again a lot of work. OR I can accept being me, and doing a normal amount of things to keep healthy, since I'm not likely to become famous and in the tabloids any day soon. And have fun. I sure do appreciate how hard some gals work for their looks. To be super, you have to be super...

What our customer's say!
"Useless", This was pretty useless as a book, I might use it as a coaster. (if I used it as a coaster though I'd have to actually admit to buying the darn thing).
I didn't like it, I thought it was very repetitive and boring. If anyone wants my copy I'll send it to you for shipping costs.. Just let me know.
"Secrets or Just Common Sense either way It's Gold!", I headed over to Barnes and Noble to browse the diet books section again. I figured of the more than 300 titles in this area there had to be at least a few left that I hadn't already purchased! I had seen this book before, but I had the mindset that "celebrities have so much money..their secret must be lypo and botox, personal chefs, diet pills and personal trainers...how can an average Jane compete." I picked up the book in spite of myself and copped a squat on one of the lounging chairs at the bookstore. From the introduction I was hooked, it was such a lighthearted, honest and humorous read. I found myself smiling and thinking something in response to the celebrities statement...only to see the author put in print my thoughts in her response.
One reviewer stated that the book is contradictory, well that's a given when it's the "opinions" of many celebrities. I've always been of the mindset and my good friend say's all the time, "any diet will work the secret is to find the one that works for you." I think this philosophy is summed up nicely in this book because what works for Jennifer Garner, might not work for Jessica Alba and so on.
There is a lot of common sense stuff in the book that we all know, but for me hearing someone actually say "add benefiber and emergen-c to a little water" was more instructional and straight forward than saying "add some fiber to your diet." Most of the book is specific as to what is actually eaten (fruits, veggies, lean proteins) and very specific (low mercury tuna) and helpful websites are provided to put you in touch with where to shop for specific items. Throughout the book are different tips and suggestions from the celebrities and their trainers. I think you definitely must pick and choose those that fit into a plan you can live with, but overall it's a lot of great advice. I read it in one evening and now I plan to go back through it with a fine tooth comb, pick out the things I think I can incorporate into my lifestyle, and note these in a little notebook that I can carry with me in my purse...maybe add in a few quotes for when I need one of my girlfriends to kick me in the rear.
I have not read the beauty secrets book so this was my first encounter with the authors. For me, this is such a motivational book because it's like having girlfriends right there with you each step of the way. We often look at celebrities and we see perfection. To read what they think of themselves, that they laugh at certain aspects of the illusion of who they are, that they have the same hangups and insecurities about their body AND that they have to work just as hard to keep their body as we will need to is very motivational. I also liked the little "hollywood words/vocabulary" splashed throughout the book, it helps to break things up a bit and serves as another form of laughter.
I would highly recommend this book to my friends, in fact it's currently making the rounds in my office. It's probably not for die hard fitness guru types, but it's dead on for most any woman that ever just felt like giving up, like nothing made a difference, like she was in it alone. I've already started to use several of the tips and it kickstarted my old eating habits. I know I feel better, lighter and cleaner when I eat more veggies, fruit, lean proteins and consume water, but it's all too easy to forget something so simple in a working, going to school, housewife, soccer/football/track/dance mom world...thanks for the inspiration, it's just what I needed to get back on track!
"A Fun Read with Good Advice", "We interviewed A-list stars and their trainers and nutritionists because celebs have no choice but to stay in shape; it's their job." ~ Introduction
"The Black Book of Hollywood Diet Secrets" is a book filled with not-so-secret tips for weight loss. While it is true that you may have heard it all before (eat your veggies and protein), this book puts the tips in an easy-to-read format that is really fun to read. The tips include the basics of a healthy diet along with ideas for exercising more and more. The book begins with stars either saying they exercise all the time or that they don't at all. Are you willing to work out six times a week? There are very few stars in this book that say they don't exercise.
Have you heard that artificial sweetners make you fat? If you need more motivation not to use them this book also explains that they dehydrate the skin. One surprise is that chocolate can help you burn fat. I'm sure they mean dark chocolate. It would have been helpful if the authors had promoted "stevia" as a natural sweetener. You may also be surprised to learn about the healthy benefits of parsley and asparagus.
In the first French Toast recipe, the instructions tell you to mix egg whites in a bowl but they don't list how many eggs to use in the ingredient list. I assume they want you to use two eggs. They do remember to put in the egg whites in the second Banana French Toast recipe. Some of the stars interviewed say you should eat only egg whites while later in the book it is OK to eat whole eggs. Which is it? At times there is no consistency because everyone has a different idea on how to lose weight. It seems you have to make a decision based on the facts presented in each case.
Here are some of the items mentioned in the book (in case you want to order them along with this book - they don't give specific brands):
Original Wu-Long Weight Loss Tea Bags, 60 Servings Itoen Tegaruni Matcha (Japanese Green Tea Powder 30 gram) Bernard Jensen Black Cherry Concentrate Extra-Quality 16oz from Bernard Jensen Amber Agave Nectar Syrup 16oz (100 % Pure Raw Cetified Organic) Nature's Bounty CINNAMON 1000 mg - 100 Capsules Bigelow Chinese Oolong Tea, Tea Bags, 20-Count Boxes (Pack of 12) Parsley Herb 100C Benefiber-Natural Fiber Supplement, 25.6oz 190 Servings The F-Factor Diet: Discover the Secret to Permanent Weight Loss
So will this book help you lose weight? I think the advice on walking is encouraging as I've lost 25 pounds walking one hour a day on my treadmill. I plan to lose even more now that I have some extra tips from this book. The advice about exercise is correct as far as I can tell and the diet tips could make a difference in how you view food on a daily basis. Little changes in your lifestyle could mean a loss in weight and that is what this book is all about.
~The Rebecca Review
"Good book, very useful", I love this book and find myself looking through it very often throughout the day....I wish there were more references to health products/foods/drinks, etc. I was very excited to go online and buy the MIRACLE REDS...a great substitution for high sugar, high calorie energy drinks. I think that the advice/tips that are provided throughout the book are great.
"Diet Help", The book has some excellent advice about dietary protocols. For instance, the authors mention optimal drinks for dieting purposes. i.e. green tea, H2O and lemon, increased omega 3, Benefiber+ Emergen C + H2O.
A high fiber breakfast is recommended. The Mediterranean Diet is extolled. i.e. o Meat oo Sweets ooo Eggs oooo Fish ooooo Yogurt oooooo Olive Oil ooooooo Beans oooooooo Pasta ooooooooo Exercise
Cinnamon is cited as a classic anti-inflammatory useful for blood sugar control. Red peppers fight infections. Basil has Vit. K. Mints have Vit A,C, iron and fiber. Stevia is considered a good sugar substitute. Avocado is high in unsaturated or good fat.
Certain veggies are low in pesticide concentration i.e. avocado, banana, watermelon, pineapple, broccoli and corn. Low fat is considered between 10-30% calorie reduction.
Overall, the book has excellent dietary protocols for the modest price charged.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Boring & Full of Info I've Read Multiple Times Before", I was excited when I saw this book on the shelf, and immediately bought it. I should've skimmed it first. I would've realized that I've heard all this information many times in other books and articles. All the information was so surface-level and mundane, that I had to force myself to finish the book. Additionally, in all honesty, I really am not convinced that this book includes the REAL diet and workout plans for these big-name stars. People simply don't look as thin as these celebs do by "hiking in the hills with my dog and drinking green tea!". Either way, I don't recommend this book unless, I suppose, you're a beginner with clean nutrition and working out.
"More than Secrets Revealed!", I was pleasantly surprised when I received the book for a few reasons... First, it's not just a book of recipes for homemade diet programs, or lose weight quick schemes. The Hollywood book of Diet Secrets was more of a spiritual collection of women who genuinely love and respect their bodies, and who know that with self-appreciation comes outward beauty.
Second, because I was appalled watching the Oscars last night when I could easily see the Botox and Collagen injections that are being abused by high profile celebs, and was happy to see those women weren't included in this book. Yes, I know women like to use any methods available to maintain their youthful appearances, but what about natural beauty and aging gracefully?
And lastly, because my contribution was included with Sheila Kelly in the chapter about striptease!
Miyoko Author of the Housewife's Guide to the Practical Striptease The Housewife's Guide to the Practical Striptease (The Housewife's Guide)
"OMG, They Have Done It Again!!! Another BeautyMaster "Must Read!"", Cindy and Kym have done it again; a compilation of great weight loss ideas and tips from Hollywood's super-sexy celebs! This book provides valuable and proven information on diets, recipes and weight loss methods that are sure to give you the body that you really want and need. I'm looking good after following their advice :-)
"Nothing I Haven't Heard Before", I gave the book 3 stars because it was interesting and definitely a fun read. There were some helpful diet tips and it's always great to see how the stars stay so slim. However, a lot of the information was repetitive and I felt like I never really learned anything from it. Rent it from a library, don't buy it!
"great read", I have seen this author Kym Douglas on the Ellen Show, wow she has more energy and excitement than a 10 year old boy making their first touchdown! She seems to be just as talented in the writing department.I have always wanted to know what the stars do to keep their slick bodies and the tips in Hollywood Beauty Secrets are easy and not expensive. It is a fun read and a great topic for discussion for the next time the "girls" get together. I enjoyed her other book Hollywood Beauty Secrets. I wonder what is next?
