Others say...
"Music can sound as old and tired as the film's characters" If you felt the latest installment in the Indiana Jones series was one too many, or left you unsatisfied, or just didn't seem to feel right, then you'll find that John Williams' familiar scoring leaves much to be desired, or is missing the TLC that always made a Jones movie as much a pleasure to listen to, as to watch. Williams has seen better days, much like the movie's lead character himself. The score sounds like a TV soundtrack, and lacks the originality and atmosphere we usually, and lovingly, associate with Williams more typically brilliant work. I say take a pass on this one; it's lackluster and disappointing from first note to last. Speaking of first notes, this is the only Jones movie that lacks any real music in the first 15 minutes of the movie. And when we do, it's a rehash of the first film in the series. So to make up for this, the first track of the CD is a rehash of the "Raiders March", that goes on and on and on, until we can't wait for a merciful track two. The first track is almost always the first music we hear in the film. Not so in this case, and while the movie itself was, of course, a labor of love that any fan would enjoy, the score falls flat and uninspired. Please, John, this was a definite case of quitting while you were ahead.
"This is a great (and severely underrated) album, but if you have not purchased it yet..." ..then you are probably better off, as Concord Records is releasing this score as well as the (newly expanded) scores from the first three Indiana Jones films in a Five Disk Box Set. However, if you have no intention of purchasing the Box Set (I would reconsider if I were you), or if you do not mind purchasing the same album twice, then you cannot really go wrong with this album. As I stated above, there are many who do not like this score ( as well as the film it accompanies), but it really is not bad, not bad at all (though it may take a number of listens for you to fully appreciate the album).
"Like the film, a HUGE disapointment." Sad to say there is little to get excited about on this album. Stick to the soundtracks from the first 3.
"Indy 4" Another great John Williams movie score. You will enjoy it whether you have seen the movie or not. It will bring back all the good times of the movie if you have seen it.
"Thank God John Williams is back." He's my favorite composer, and I'm glad his first score after his hiatus is an Indy score. I was hoping he would have used more of the jungle-themed ideas he employed in The Lost World, but the few times he does are great anyway. My only gripe is the sound quality--it's too sharp and "digital." It's kinda hard to listen to sometimes. And the "Crystal" theme is a little lackluster. I like Mutt's Robin Hood-like theme, though it takes getting used to. Overall, a great score, definitely better than most of the crap that came out this summer.

What our customer's say!
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", As expected, John Williams does his usual great job on this score. I don't think this will get him an Oscar, but this will hold its' own with the best of his scores. No John Williams fan should pass this one up.
"Johnny, this one coulda been better!", Of course, film fans have high expectations when going to see and HEAR Indiana Jones' films. I am not different.
Sadly, John Williams hasn't created anything truly memorable in this score. It only comes to life when one hears the familiar retreads from the original. Other tracks sound like "Jurassic Park," "Harry Potter," or "Superman" leftovers. Only does the track "The Adventures of Mutt" possess some of the spark that was the key behind the success to the first Jones' film.
I realize that composers can "revisit" themselves or borrow from others, but Williams usually throws in something new in each of his film compositions.
I just don't hear it in "Crystal Skull."
"worth the wait", My son and I absolutely love John Williams' work and this was no exception. I especially love "The Call of the Crystal", which is very haunting and where sections reminds me of Adolph Deutsch's score for "The Maltese Falcon" which I find very fitting for the Crystal's theme. The only piece that I wish was in the recording of this fourth installment was Mutt's enterance at the train station, which sounded great when he came through the smoke.
"The movie is back, and so the movie's soundtrack itself.", After a long wait, the movie is back. And so, the familiar movie's soundtrack is so back in the running. All the tracks are so good. When I listened to it, it felt like the adventure feeling was back into town. I liked all the track. My favorite track would be track 1. It was because the familiar "Indiana Jones" music would always attract the movie fans (especially "Indiana Jones" fans) to listen to it for many times. Overall, it was a good soundtrack. I loved it!
"Money Well Spent", I thoroughly enjoyed this soundtrack. It has the classic sound of Indiana Jones and is a lot of fun to listen to. John Williams is brilliant in reviving one of our favorite heroes. I am so glad I decided to buy it. A beautiful soundtrack to add to your collection.

"If you're any kind of fan of John Williams, this is a must own...if not...maybe itunes", Well I must say it has been a long two and a half years since the last score by John Williams...Steven Spielberg's Munich. Since then, we've heard variations of previous score franchises such as Superman Returns, and Harry Potter. However, it's just not the same as an actual John Williams score. For two years, we've had to hear the numerous poisonous score from Remote Control Scoring...and now we have a chance to clean the speakers out, with some good, old fashion orchestral music, roaring through at you in the audience. Does this score live up to this hype?
In my opinion it does. It's not something I'm jumping over, the last score I did that was Jurassic Park. However, it is a nice, light, fun score, that somehow puts a smile on my face everytime i hear it, despite its flaws.
The good: If you're into complex, orchestral, rhythmic style of action cue writing, pieces you cannot predict, like myself, then this score is a real treat. Such cues as "A Whirl through Academe," "The Jungle Chase," and "Ants," and "The Adventures of Mutt," will be a lot of fun for you to listen to. If you like omnious, and tense atmospheric writing, complex, yet effective, this is the score for you. If you like the nostalgia of reoccuring themes from old such as "Raiders March," "Marion's theme," and "Keeping up with the Joneses (though not on the soundtrack...only in the film)"...then this is a score to buy
The Flaws: Is it blasphemous to say a John Williams score has flaws? In any event, this score, like the script to the film, has a few clunky flaws...though not many, are painfully obvious when they occur. One, is that John Williams must be studying the habits of James Horner these last two years...for there are literal copy and pastes in this score from "War of the Worlds" and "The Lost World Jurassic Park." Though these rips are not quite copy and paste in the literal sense, Williams has taken exact motifs from these films, and elaborated...however, these elaborations (such as trumpet 32 note licks, not found in the prior films...or slight change in the rhythm) don't hide the obvious flaw.
Overall, though if you're any kind of John Williams or Indiana Jones fan, this score is a must buy. You'll smile from ear to ear from start to finish, despite the flaws. If you like complex musically grammer and writing, this score like everyother Williams score is a must own...but if you're just interested about it for the next twenty minutes...save your money and get it on itunes.
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by John Williams ", Good, but not as good as I hoped for. Of course the expectations were high, but not really convincing.
"If adventure music has a name, it must be Indiana Jones...", John Williams rarely strikes out, and he has definitely not in this latest composition from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The Indiana Jones theme is what everyone remembers. I would rank it as one of the best motion picture themes. The rest of the soundtrack is very good. There is nostalgia woven throughout this soundtrack. Marion's theme is back and is found in several of the tracks, whether it be a a few seconds or not. Some of the Last Crusade music makes a return as well, at very appropriate times in the movie. I think it's an indication of how well the composition is by how well you are moved by the music and this made me recall all of the fond memories of Indiana Jones moments. There are some rather different themes at play but very much in tune with the theme of the film.
Until the other 3 soundtracks get re-released, this is your best chance to have the Indy theme.
"Nothing Distinctive in this one..", John Williams is by far the most accomplished and successful composers in Hollywood..I will stand by that till my dying day. Unfortunately, IJATKOTCS is not one of his greatest works. A beautiful nostalgic opening with "The Raider's March" is about as good as its gonna get with this one. Unlike the Star Wars series where each character has his/her very distinctive theme music that would literally stay in your head the rest of your life, this piece of work (though technically sound) really has nothing signature about it. It quite frankly left me bored by the end. Very different from the music of its predecessors, which did not really surprise me at all considering the film itself doesn't come close to the Original Trilogy either. The main reason I bought this album was because the previous 3 are impossible to find today and I really wasn't too keen on missing a 4th time round. Nothing Distinctive here!
"Indie Jones still delivers the sounds", The soundtrack to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull is again written in the old hollywood action adventure sound, and we again thank you for it. Indiana Jones' music hurries you thru from one threat to the next but takes the time to let it all sink in with the music taking you from one cressendo to the next. Without it, Indie would just be another 5 letter word. See the movie, but make sure you buy the soundtrack!
