"AWSOME! JACK WHITE DOES IT AGAIN!" I just love this cd! It's versatile, there is so much talent. I have been a big fan of Jack White for a long time and this band is great! The first couple of songs rock and have some White Stripe type influence; I love the 3rd song, piano, harmony in the chorus-beatlesque. There's some blues and country type influence-it is NOT a boring album! BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!
"A Pretty Big Step Down from Broken Boy Soldiers" Jack White is kind of an up-and-down fellow: he can put together some absolutely brilliant songs that really put you in the mood to rock, no matter how off-kilter it is, or he can end up in a rut. As an example of this, I would posit that his most brilliant work (Meg of course is a creative non-factor) would be Elephant, Icky Thump, De Stijl, and Broken Boy Soldiers; all great albums that range from the super-catchy (Elephant) to the rather dissonant (Icky Thump), or the classically influenced, yet fresh (Broken Boy Soldiers). Sometimes, though, it just doesn't work; the White Stripes self-titled debut album, Get Behind Me Satan, and this album. After the home-run of BBS, I was eagerly awaiting Consolers and picked it up on the enthusiastic recommendations of many friends. However, it just doesn't hit the same nerves as BBS; instead of the slow, rambling charm of BBS' best songs, it keeps rhythms we're much more accustomed to in classic rock, and the lyrics change from their unfocused, simple subject matter to more conventional themes, which are clearly Jack's weak spot. Where BBS could make a beautiful song about nothing more than hands, or the phase of the moon, Consolers tries to capture relationship blues almost exclusively. One can see why he's stuck to nonsensical, free-association lyrics for so long: when he tries to tell a story it crumbles. As for the instrumental sound of this album, it is more structured than we are accustomed to from either the Raconteurs or White Stripes, with less of the solos and riffing that we all love to hear from Jack. The addition of horns are well-done, and fit with the bluesy composition. Unfortunately, all the songs blend together with both their theme and musical sound, and you'll be hard pressed to distinguish one from the other after you're done listening. Overall, this album is unremarkable and weak in comparison to the majority of Mr. White's impressive aural resume. It lacks the catchiness, incredible solos, and silly charm of other album's songwriting. If you'd like to hear an album by Jack White that will appear more familiar and bluesy than his other work, buy this one, otherwise stick to the rest.
"consolers of the lonely" i love this music! this is truly a great night when i vibrate to this...oh that didn't sound good or did it ;) anything i am doing this makes a great backdrop ;) thank you raconteurs! love, carol
"unbelievable" This is the best album Jack White has ever been a part of. And the White Stripes are probably my favorite band. But there's so much more to this album than just White. Patrick Keeler is a beast on drums throughout, LJ has some good basslines and keyboard parts, and Brendan Benson absolutely shines, especially on songs like Many Shades of Black, Attention, and Consoler of the Lonely. Everyone talks about how much more this album sounds like the Stripes than Broken Boy Soldiers did, but probably the biggest improvement to this album is how much stronger Benson sounds both on vocals and guitar. The overall sound to the album is stronger. There's a lot of start and stop/push and pull rhythms going on, and it's a lot harder than BBS was. There's some strings and Mariachi on a few tracks too, changing things up a little bit. It has some great softer moments as well. You Don't Understand Me is great, and I still get goosebumps listening to Carolina Drama. This is easily one of the best albums of the year, if not the best. Jack White is one of those once in a generation talents in songwriting, and then when you combine it with the rest of the guys on here it sounds even better. If you like music just in general pick this album up, and go see them live. I saw them about a month ago. It was unbelievable.
Highlights Hell, all of them. But especially -Consoler of the Lonely -Salute Your Salution -You Don't Understand Me -Top Yourself -Many Shades of Black -Carolina Drama
"tastier each listen" Excellent record full of creative arrangements & great production. Songs are delightful and dynamic. This well-balanced band ROCKS live and provides a perfect vehicle for J.White's compelling tendencies. I smell a Grammy nomination. Enjoy in abundance!

What our customer's say!
"Better than their First!", Played this on the way to Coachella last year and they did quite alot of material from it in their set - Carolina Drama live is even better than the CD version, but no complaints here!
"Musically AWESOME!", This is one of the best albums of 2008... hands down. The combined virtuosity of the members of The Raconteurs makes for musical magic. I could go on and on about this album but I'll just say this... listen to the first cut and then check out "Rich Kid Blues" and then you'll know why you need to buy this album. I tend to be more of a hard rock kinda guy, but I couldn't get this out of my CD player and off repeat on my iPod for weeks! Buy it and you'll see why!
"Greatest music CD out there", Love this band and this CD. This CD is one you can take with you everywhere you go and never get sick of it. The band plays well together and all the music comes together great. This band doesn't get a ton of coverage but this is definitely a CD that often goes over looked. Don't pass this up if you like good guitar and drums.
"A more full palette of sound for the mainstream band", When I say mainstream, I don't mean streamlined, because this is anything but that. This album has many elements that are surprising for those accustomed to the bluesy and power pop elements of the two main songwriters. The tracks are filled with diverse genre bending all without sounding alternative, or even commercial, and I have to give them credit for that. This album is a definite step up from Broken Boy Soldiers which was clearly an overly simplified introduction to the dabbling sensibilities each songwriter brought to the table, on this album the entire band feels adequately showcased throughout and they stretch out. Perhaps they were going outside their comfort zone, or maybe they would be comfortable doing this already and just decided to let us in on it. However you crack it the egg is mighty tasty if you eat it and impressive if you let it hatch and grow. Honestly, I think it was gutsy for the Racs to let loose on their love of classic boogie, southern, and all other forms of popular rock they crank out here. No one is creating music of this quality and verve on the scene right. This music is alive as opposed to being studied even when they're doing a cover (rich kid blues). It certainly has its groundings in familiar sounds, but it's a great way to inject so much more energy into it. I find it inspirational to say it's ok to be popular just don't make carbon copies and rob people thinking they were buying a new album. While not the best album in the world it holds its own on every song, and nearly every song is a piece unto itself. That is a feat and if this sounds interesting to you, then I encourage you to get this album.
"one of the better albums for 2008", I bought this album, thinking that i do like raconteurs, but i thought that their first album had a few dud songs on it. This one really hits the spot after (for me) a year of searching for an album i can just put on and listen to the whole thing with out being tempted to fast forward through a song or two or three. I really like the first and last songs, and songs 7 & 8. These are four songs that could anchor an album on their own. Overall, my best purchase (of music) of the year.

"It doesn't get much better than this.", Simply put, this is one of the best albums I have heard in years. It is excellent the first time you hear it and it gets better everytime after that. Maybe it's Jack White, maybe it's all of them combined, but if you are a fan of good solid music, you will love this. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
"phenomenal", Keeping it simple:
This is literally one of my favorite albums I have ever owned.
It's amazing.
"I like it less every listen..", First of all I want to say that I love most of what Jack White has released, and also Broken Boy Soldiers is one of my favorite albums in my collection.
I've listened to this album in it's entirety about 10-15 times, and I'm done trying to like it, it's just plain boring. It starts out strong and gets worse and worse with every song. It does have some interesting parts, some things musically I have never heard before, and it is all right compared to other music out there right now, but to me it's a failure. The upbeat songs sound like they're trying to rock out, but aren't hard enough to be powerful, they comes off weak and monotonous. The slow songs just drag by.
It seems to me Raconteurs (and Jack White's other work as well) sound the worst when they try to do country western, mediocre on the mariachi influenced songs, and best when they do experimental rock/blues.
The title track is killer, though.. It also happens to be the only track that sounds like it could have been on Broken Boy Soldiers. B.B.S. blows my away every time I listen to it, I even have to cut myself off from it so I don't get sick of it.
"Second album from the Raconteurs delivers", Jack White (or should I say Jack White III, as he is billed on this album) is one busy man, keeping things going between the White Stripes and the Brendan Benson co-lead Raconteurs. After the band's 2006 "Broken Toy Soldiers" poppy-sounding album, the band now returns with this.
"Consolers of the Lonely" (14 tracks; 56 min.) starts off with the White Stripes-sounding title track, which I love. But it's immediately clear that when the next track ("Salute Your Solution") plays that the band is after a more expansive musical pallet, and to great effect. That said, I don't get into "The Switch and the Spur" at all, with a trumpet overplay, same with "Many Shades of Black". But "Hold Up" rocks hard! Other highlights for me include "Attention", an all-out rocker, and the closer "Carolina Drama". A great album all around, even if a bit overlong at 56 min. Cut a couple of the weaker tracks and we're talking 4.5 stars.
The evolution/departure from "Broker Toy Soldiers" is quite remarkable and impressive. I saw the Raconteurs deliver a blistering set at Bonnaroo a few months ago, and let there be no mistake, this is Jack White's band, sorry Brendan. Can't wait to see how Jack will keep the balancing act going between the White Stripes and the Raconteurs.
"Album of the Year...The New White Stripes...", The new Raconteurs album is incredible in its layered simplicity. This is Jack White's new band and the album breaks boundaries while still having a familiar feeling to it. The instrumentation mixes modern and traditional styles in a seamless album. I found the debut album "Broken Boy Soldiers" to be a bit weak, not bad, but not terribly memorable. Pick this album up immediately! You will not be disappointed.
