"Garmin 255W", The Garmin 255W is perfect for my first GPS. I travel quite a bit with my job and often have to go to cities that are unfamiliar to me. I love the fact that this GPS tells me way ahead of time which turn or road to take and then again right before. I feel more secure with it.

"Pleased again", This is my second Garmin gps. I purchased a a Garmin c340 4 years ago and paid a lot more for it ten, The Nuvi 255w was 1/3 the price and so much more advanced. Very handy to have in tight situations such as in a city when streets pop up and you have to make a quick decision or get caught up in a long delay getting to the right direction. I bought one also for my niece. She loves it.

"Excellent Product", Easy to use right out of the box. Very user friendly. Voice speaks turn by turn directions - very easy to hear and understand. The directions were very accurate - if you make a wrong turn, it redirects you so that you won't get lost. Can save favorite addresses to go to again and again. Based on your current location, directs you to nearby gas stations, restaurants, and other locations which are preprogrammed into the Garmin. Would definitely recommend!

"Garmin Nuvi GPS 255W", Although the GPS unit works well, there are a few things that could improve it. Not included with the 255W was an Owner's Manual just a Quick Start Guide. The manual must be downloaded as a PDF file from Garmin about 39 pages. Also, the manual is mainly for the 250W model which is essentially the same as the 255W.
There is only a car charging cable to charge the battery in the unit. No AC or USB cable comes with it and they must be purchased separately as Optional Equipment.
Finding the most direct route is not always displayed even if the shortest and fastest options are chosen. It will re-calculate if you pass the street indicated.
Many local streets are not listed in the pre-loaded maps.
It is easy to use and the display is fine with choices of different views.

"Great GPS", I received the Garmin Nuvi 255W for Christmas and over the last few weeks it as worked great! This is my first GPS, so I don't have anything to compare it to; however, the directions have been right on with where I'm going, plus, the maps include small side streets in small town Texas that surprised me. I like how it identifies the street names with the directions. I've heard and read strong reviews for Garmin and this specific GPS and everything so far supports them!

"Garmin 255W GPS ", Great product....quickly recalculates routes when deliberately went past suggested route. Good graphics. Intuitive. So easy a caveman can use it.

"Great buy", I got this GPS while it was on sale (during black friday) for about 205$. That was well worth the money, and it has served me well so far. It's a simple setup, and easy upgrading firmware online. I had very few Qs, one being, which is the better option to use: Shorter Time vs. Shorter Distance? After some experimentation, Fastest Time seems to be the better setting. The voice (i use the regular american accent one) is clear and I have no problems understanding it. I know some people feel it is too sharp/robotic, but as someone who's never had another GPS, i had no problems with it.

The cool thing about this GPS is that it has a faster processor than the others so it "recalculates" and connects to satellite faster.

"LOVE IT!! Would not be without it on a trip-Get the pad too!", I got this Garmin for my husband for Christmas after our son had done tons of research on the products and said this was the best for him. HE was right!! Saved us many times on I-85 to Atlanta-GA and trying to get off the right exit..you do not want to get turned around in Atlanta-been there - done that :( YUCK.
Anyway- great voice description and neat the way you can track where you have already been. ONE thing for sure - DO not buy one without also buying a Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for Nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550 and C580)...that is awesome..worth all of the $25 we paid.
Now our friends and family want one!! Can't go wrong!


"almost stuck", My Garmin 255 w, first led me down a log road that had recently been gouged out by a bulldozer. Fortunately the ground was frozen or my Buick century would still be in the mud somewhere in that 2 mile stretch. Next, it is a little behind in announcing turns and is still telling me to turn after the turn is made. Last (of the bad points) it cannot locate my home. It is off by about .2 mile. Except for those noted above I like the unit.

"A great basic navigational unit!", Bought this unit 4 weeks ago & have used it on 2 long road trips & around the confusing streets of North Jersey & Long Island, NY. Note that this is a "bare bones" unit that doesn't have bluetooth or a mp3 player, which I wasn't interested in. If you are looking for a simple wide screen easy to view street/HW navigational unit, this should meet your needs. I was able to get the unit set up & running in about 10 minutes with just a glance at the skimpy instructional manual & was also impressed that it gets it's satellite signals very quickly. For security reasons, I would also purchase the friction dashboard mount rather than using the enclosed window stick mount - it's a lot faster to setup/dismount & you can easily move it to other vehicles/rental cars etc. Would definitely buy this unit again.
