"Where's the D?"
The only reason this obviously flawed game gets ONE star is it still has a deep, versatile, and challenging dynasty mode. Mind you there are glitches there but they are minimal and microscopic in relation to the gameplay. The graphics while sleek, don't make up for the players running straight up and down like marionettes even while changing direction. To add to this there are no individual running styles. A 6-3 195 pound receiver, a 5-9 220 lb running back, and a 6-7 330 lb lineman will all have that same goofy, hitched-up gait while running. Vision is limited on defense and offense as you can't see what the recievers and corners do at the snap.

The defense is lacking any realism whatsoever. Looking for a good, old-fashioned SEC defensive struggle between Bama and Auburn? You won't find games like that here. What you will find while controlling your D is the stats for you team or the CPU don't matter. Your players will have little to zero reaction on plays. No awareness of down and distance. The linebackers at times take horrible angles to the ball carrier. You won't ever have a pass rush with your linemen due to the invisible force field the offense has. Like your matchup of a 80 rated reciever with a speed of 86 against your All-american DB? Think again, that lowly wideout w/ an awarenesss of a submoronic 50 will outjump, outrun, your man all up and down the field with no mercy. There is no call you can make the CPU doesn't make yards on, especially in 3rd and long plays. Go ahead and call an audible if you like, the CPU will have a play for that too. The individual/position player audibles seemed clunky and wooden to me also.
The cons from this game far outweigh the pros, save your money like I did this year and play someone else's.(If you like to be frustrated) Shame on EASports for peddling garbage like this to a seemingly happy public. Maybe next year if they want fans like me to buy their product again, they should put in a simulation mode to go with the arcade mode they already have installed.

"Real Bargain"
Great Gold Box price. I would have spent $20 more for this game and luckily it popped on to Amazon the day I was going to go to BB or CC and purchase. Can be played with lots of strategy or simplified with plenty of great graphics.

"Too much junk"
I have owned NCAA 09 for a couple days now and there has already been some big problems I've had with it. For one, after I scored a touchdown the announcers acted as though the opposing team had scored and then I received the ball again on a kickoff that was supposed to be for the other team. I have never had this big of a bug occur during any other football game I have played. Besides that, the gameplay seems cluncky and slow and the controls seem to be inconsistent.

Another part of gameplay that was annoying was the "updates" to certain parts of gameplay. I was playing a close game against an opponent and was about to kick a field goal to tie and for some reason the camera view for my kicker made it so I couldn't even see the goalposts. There was a help icon which I pressed but then noticed that the playclock was still running while I was trying to figure out what the hell was happening. Suffice to say I missed the darn field goal.

New updates are supposed to improve gameplay and make it more fun and this game does the opposite in several cases. I would honestly still rather play NCAA 04 when the gameplay was crisp and smooth. I think that EA could really use some competition so maybe they'll improve the gameplay instead of giving us a buggy product with frustrating "updates".

"Faulty Pass Defense destorys a franchise"
I am a longtime fan of the EA college football series. I played since the first one back on PS2. It was one of my favorite games and I've probably been through 30 years of dynasties. I was even painted up for a cameo in NCAA 07. That said, the current incarnation makes me sick to my stomach. The pass defense is beyond terrible. The defense never really does anything. They just stand there. That means that even the second string QB from 1AA Nowhere can have a 90% completion percentage on you. I improved the Virginia Tech defense over the course of three seasons to an overall rating of 99 and it didn't matter. A mediocre Cal team still carved me up for 400 passing yards and 40-some points. The game does look pretty and my beloved recruiting system is better than ever, but that doesn't overcome the helpless feeling I have everytime I'm on defense. I'd be better off going and making myself a sandwich until my offense is back on the field. Of course, when that does happen, I have to be careful, because every cpu pass defender plays like an all-american with the world's softest hands. I feel betrayed by EA. They've so monopolized the industry that they don't have to put out a quality product any more. Instead of spending all that money on those pathetic comercials, maybe they should put more money into their games.

"Better Gameplay - some of the same flaws as 08"
First, let me say I've played this games since 02. Here are some points I have not seen mentioned which are minor glitches, yet they appear every year it seems.
1. The Drive Summary is always wrong (yardage amount)
2. The Offensive Line Blocks Terrible - Your 95 OT will get beat about 5 times by a 80 DE.
3. The amount of Pick 6's are ridiculously high
4. I don't see much improvement in recruting this year. They cleaned it up, yet it is much the same as 08, as such it is a bit to tedious.

New-Good
1. The animations seems more polished and better looking.
2. Tell me why the Championship game cannot even put your Logo in the endzone???
3. The Computer is somewhat smarter on the Heisman Level
4. It is still the same game as (08) with a little better graphics and interface ... yet not that much different.

What our customer's say!

"NCAA Football 09", AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH man this is the game of the century son!!!!!!!!! The realism is the best feature, plus I advise people to invest in the HDMI cable for your xbox to go along with your HDMI ready TV. The game looks so real and the feel is uncomparible with previous years of NCAA (EA college football). I am a BIG fan of the college football series from EA sports. EA needs to add more features in thier next years, bring back everything about college football including the momentum meter.

"Avoid this game like the plague", If you like college football, or any aspect of college football avoid this game. Watch a tape of a game from last century with your favorite team. It will be time better spent. The game fails on simple logic of the speed to two players, with often the significantly slower player winning a footrace. With proper movement, you can return about 50% of the kickoffs for TDs. If you play, stick to the run, or sim the games and enjoy the recruiting function.

"Its still just OKAY.", The game is still just ok. It has never been the same since the transition from NCAA football 07 on xbox to xbox 360. The controls changed on 360, the recruiting changed and got so ridiculous that its near impossible to get the recruit you want, even if he has your school as his number 1 pick of schools. When in legend mode you cant even recruit once again......cant play defense now, cant even control the rest of ur team when the ball is our of ur players hands! The game is way harder.......which is good, but it is hard playing on varsity mode. When throwing down the field on a post route a defender can still jump up and backwards to intercept the ball!! A ball carrier can STILL break through 5 guys for more yardage because theres a way thats already programmed for him to go down while getting tackled. Basic navigation from menu to menu is still complex and stupid. It should take one button to scroll through a depth chart, or some other menu, but NO, instead you have to press two buttons and take up more memory on the disk. There are errors and bugs in the game when scrolling through stat menu's during a game. THUMBS UP EA SPORTS. Look, the game is enjoyable but don't try and make it more complex every year! Keep it simple but fun! The last time it was fun was NCAA football 05, 06, and 07 and regular xbox! KEEP IT SIMPLE MORONS!

"Better than Madden 09", This is simply the best football game out there. The most teams in a game, which makes the game so easy to adapt to. Madden has fallen to Ncaa franchise many years before the 2009 games came out, and it doesn't even come close this year. The broken tackles are actually realistic. The only thing is that some catches/interceptions aren't realistic but they make up for each other.

"Rent First", Awful. I believe that this is what EA deems a revolution in gaming: tweak the graphics, offer (stupid) minigames like bowling, and provide the ability to play as mascots. I completely agree with the other reviews regarding the lack of defense. As an experiment, I created a DE with all stats maxed out. He rarely registers a sack regardless of opponent or gameplay level. Conversely, the CPU doesn't seem to have that problem and mounts a relatively effective defense. As with the other reviewers, I am a huge college football fan, and NCAA Football 09 has been a big disappointment. The last NCAA Football that I truly enjoyed was 06, and I don't plan to purchase another.

"The best NCAA yet!", The title says it all, 09 has BY FAR less glitches than previous years. Gone are the goofy "block an extra point or field goal about every single time" and "defender intercepts ball with his back turned" glitches. Graphics look better and the stadiums look like the real deal. Touchdown celebration control and creating your own stadium sounds/music adds some extra fun as well. Animations are better and everything is more realistic.

One huge thing I do miss though in 09 is the screen shake at tough stadiums, which is gone, and I miss the Louisville Cardinals no longer being ranked and no longer being one of the toughest stadiums. We had one bad year...c'mon! :(

"A monster disappointment", This is what happens when lack of competition meets overextension: EA Sports has so many games it no longer cares about their quality, and it has competition in so few areas that it doesn't need to.

While NCAA 09 can be fun at times, it is so full of obvious bugs and strategy flaws that I would be surprised if it actually went through a QA process and was changed at all. If you look on pretty much any 360-related forum, you'll find a huge list. Here's an example of what you'll see:

-- The clock doesn't always run during a kickoff return. That's kind of a big deal when there isn't much time left.
-- If you press a button at the wrong time after an extra point, you'll actually end up selecting your kickoff or return formation and you won't know what you picked.
-- Receivers can run out of bounds for any length of time, come back in and catch the ball without penalty.
-- Yardage announced over the stadium PA rarely matches the pop-up box and in-game stats.
-- When a penalty occurs on a kickoff return, the pop-up box for the returner and the Super Sim window both show a large negative number as the "result" of the return.
-- The referee points in a seemingly random direction when announcing a penalty and does not announce the uniform number of the offending player.
-- You cannot change the camera angle during play, even though there are obviously multiple cameras available (you can save replays from different angles and the camera in Legend Mode is not the same as the camera in other modes).
-- You cannot change your playbook.
-- You can no longer select I-AA teams or swap them with existing I-A teams (sorry, I don't play the FBS semantics game).
-- In Legend Mode, the camera is located somewhere behind you and always stays there, so when the action comes straight toward you, the camera does a 180, effectively taking you out of the play.
-- In Legend Mode, the AI will always return punts for you, even if the ball is kicked 8-9 yards deep in the end zone.
-- Slants, outs, hooks, and other short routes are very difficult to complete: if there is a computer-controller defender nearby, he will jump the route and pick off the pass, unless you are on defense, in which case he will stare in amazement at the ball.
-- Animations frequently kick in regardless of where the players were at the time of the event: for example, you can be a DE who gets around an offensive lineman, but if the game decides it's time for a blocking-engaged animation, he'll lock you up again, even though he wasn't even facing you.

There are other significant bugs I have not yet seen myself, like being able to throw the ball when you are well past the line of scrimmage, or seeing the scoring team keep the ball if they hit the upright on an extra point and a defender catches it.

Somewhere in all of that, there's an excellent game waiting to be saved, but frankly, I've spent too much time trying to find it. I wish I hadn't purchased this game, and I won't be buying any more EA Sports games until someone else shows me that they care about quality again.

"Good Football Game", A fun game with lots of features. The online dynasty is great considering I have friends who live out of state.

"Recruit your Dynasty", I love the recruiting feature as with all college. Also, the addition of the online dynasty allows me and all my college buddies to jump in on the same franchise just like we did when we were in school.

"Much Improved!", NCAA has come a long way since it's first next gen installment. Much improved but not quite on the level of this year's Madden; NCAA has it's moments where a player can feel as if there are really there on the field. However the same old canned commentaries of the previous years bring you back down to reality. They could of recorded some new verbage from the two announcers. The game has improved it's controls and framerate. However, the defensive game needs to be improved greatly. The defensive backs don't jam very well and sometimes find themselves out of position no matter what coverage you call. The offensive game is fun and immersive at times. I hate that you can't lock onto your receivers before you pass the ball. This shortcoming leads to alot of misdirected passes and dampens the realism of the game often. Overall, NCAA gets a four out of five from me. This is definitely a game to buy and would be a great game to play against friends.
