Others say..."Outstanding improvement over the original Eyeclops!"I bought the original Eyeclops last year and bought this one mostly because of the discounted price and extra features. This is an amazingly good improvement from the first version. I especially like that you can switch between magnifications of 100x, 200x, and 400x. The original only had a 200x power. Honestly the 100x is the best and the easiest to get a good focused photo on. You have to have quite a steady hand and moderate patience to get a clear photo on the stronger magnifications. I love the portability of this model, the USB hook up option, and features (has modes for; video camera, pictures, slideshow, and galleries for photos and videos). It has a 2 1/4 inch diagonal full color viewing screen that rivals any current digital camera. The screen/buttons are very intuitive. My 9 yr old didn't even look at the manual and had no problem figuring out all the function options, including uploading the photos on the computer. You can see any shots/video you've made on the built in screen, or on your TV or computer through very easy hook-ups. Saving or deleting can be done on the BioniCam. I highly recommend this very cool and educational toy! "have a feeling it will end up at the bottom of toy chest"My kids 8 & 10 played with this for about 1 hour. They got bored. That is not the toys fault. It does work and it is cordless. The focusing does take a bit of practice to get the hang of it. I had trouble with it until my husband showed me how to do it. They might have a better time with it in the summer when they are outside more, not sure. Glad I didn't pay more than 20.00 for it. "I wish I had this when I was a kid!"This is totally awesome! A must have gift for any child interested in the sciences, and a gift that can spark an interest in science! The hand held microscope works very well, gave it as a Christmas present, and we tested it right away. You have to put the unit right against what you are trying to view. Subjects are lit up by white leds (more could be better) and displayed at decent resolution on the lcd screen. Saving photos are easy and they reside on the usb stick which is included. The unit is lightweight and easy to carry around. This is an amazing toy that really gets kids exploring and learning about the natural world all around them! The only cons I thought It had was that its in a weird shape of a gross eye (less appealing to girls?) and the focusing ring (the white part) should have been independent as when turning it at high magnifications can cause you to lose the subject as it has to be right up against the material. "Stopped working after 10 minutes"The idea is great. We took it out of the box, put the batteries in and turned it on. Easy learning curve and a bit of tweaking to get the angle just right and soon we were looking at our skin close up, hair follicles, sugar, salt etc. Problem is 1o-minutes after using it, with fresh rechargeable batteries the units screen went crazy and then had lines all through it and stopped working completely. Other batteries would not breath life back into it. It might be a hit or a miss thing...some reviewers like it, others had problems. Guess ya gotta be lucky to get a good working one. Again, the concept is great. I might exchange it and try it again...but right now I would not recommend this product to anyone until I can determine if maybe mine was damaged in shipping, or if this this a product that is inconsistent in durability. "Fun Portable Video Microscope, Fantastic Value - Recommended"Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3VFCROHTDWFBC The "EyeClops BioniCam Video Microscope" is a very fun and functional portable microscope. For the very low price this can be found for on Amazon, it is a true value. The best feature is that the unit is self contained, so it does not need to be directly connected to a computer or to a TV (it can be via the included cable). Pictures are saved as ".jpg" to a 32mb USB drive (included) that can be connected directly into the computer's USB port. The unit feels fairly flimsy, so care should be taken when focusing or changing the magnification. When looking for subjects, flat objects work best at higher magnifications. Remember that this is a low cost toy, not an expensive scientific device. When used correctly, children will have a lot of fun and perhaps this will even spark an interest in science. Overall, we are very pleased with the performance, quality, and price of the EyeClops Video Microscope. Recommended!

What our customer's say!
"Fun for all, takes a steady hand and a little patience.", We received this as a gift. We then all sat around as a family and spent a few hours finding stuff to look at. We inspected the dog, the cat, the baby, pimples, scabs, leaves, bugs, hair, whiskers, jeans, dirt, and lots of other cool things. It does take a steady hand, but we were all able to use it quite easily. We hooked it into the TV - also simple with the included cable - and were able to review our photos, and use it as a large screen for viewing before taking the photo. It was a really cool evening and a nice way to get to spend time with the teenagers. One even suggested that it be used to make a good background for an avatar. That would be unique and cool! We liked this item, and we will use it more than just a regular microscope because it is so interactive and fun for all!
"Grandma's Hit!", I bought the EyeClops for my grandson - it's a huge hit with the whole family! Daddy, especially! With the option of viewing on TV and the ability to take actual pictures and share over the computer, I have to say this toy is more than I bargained for!
"Not impressed!", I was not happy at all with the BioniCam and returned it the day after Christmas. The light was not bright enough to see images through unless you were directly on them. Heartbreaking as this is what my 9 year old asked "Santa" for and I had to try and explain to her how you return gifts to Santa.
"Bought 4 of these", I bought 2 for my kids and 2 for niece/nephew and everyone thought they were "cool". Had to disassemble one of the four, the display kept shorting out but a well placed piece of electrical tape fixed the problem right away.
It takes a little adjusting and patience to see things - definitely recommend plugging into the television as it gives a much better view of things.
Photos taken are decent quality, no issue with transferring the photos to a computer via the USB stick.
All in all a fun toy but I think they got lost in the video games and other electronics at Christmas. Definitely worth the Amazon pricing (saw this at Toys R Us for list price - $89 - right before Christmas, no wonder the shelf was full of them!)
"Fun for the whole family!", I bought this for my nieces for Christmas, who are homeschooled, and it was a delight for the entire family. They were amazed, as was everyone, at how things looked magnified up close. And they loved that they could take pictures and show them to others later on. It was a real winner at Christmastime!

"8 YEAR OLD SON GOT BORED", My son loves science and anything gross. I purchased the original model Christmas 2007. The original model plugs to your TV. Well, it took some time to get into focus but it was interesting for about 2 or 3 days before my son became bored. I guess the mobile model would be better but I'm sure my son would get bored w/this too. He prefers his real microscope.
"Amazing magnifier at the holiday pricing.", At the holiday pricing Amazon has had on this, this is a great gift for anyone over the age of seven. Between the adults and kids these have received the most continuous use since they were opened.
We have not had any trouble with ours, and make sure to keep the focusing disc (circular board with lettering at different sizes) handy for adjusting focus after switching magnification. Focusing takes a little bit to get used to doing quickly.
Dark materials and soft/plush items, like your dog or a full head of hair, do not view well with the LED lighting. I might try using one of those LightWedge Paperback Book Light (Black) to see if that would help any. (They mar easily, so maybe not clear enough at magnification, or maybe still too thick to get focal length?)
After our seven-year-old poked her foot with a stick accidentally while outside playing, we usually expect to hear some crying, whining, and moping about. This time the kids all said, "Let's get the EyeClops!!!" That's worth the 20 bucks alone! :-)
"i might have got a trojan from the USB stick", The toy itself is cool. I had more fun playing with it than my kids did. Super zoom photo's of anything I could think of (scabs, whiskers, magazines, fabrics, sugar, etc.) To copy the photo's to my PC, i simply removed the USB memory stick and put into my PC and moved the files to my hard drive. Later the same day, i had some nasty trojan infection. This is too co-incidental for me to not blame the eye-clops. I'm wondering if anyone else has had an infection? I was able to clean my PC using a free download from download.com called Malwarebytes Mal-aware. I was unable to clean it using the "name brand" products. I'm scared to plug this thing back into my PC now... Has anyone else used the USB Stick to move the pictures?
"Very cool!", We got this for my 7-yr old for Christmas. I was really surprised at how well it magnifies things. Warning: Adults, don't hold this up to your skin unless your REALLY want to see every little defect in your skin ;)
The whole family had a blast playing with this toy. The built-in screen is great and the ability to send the output to a TV is really fun. The resolution wasn't as clear on the TV, but it was still really neat.
I can't believe that this is on sale for $19.
"My science kid loves this", My 8-year-old son got this for Christmas and he really likes it. He's really into science and investigating things, so this allows him to get a close-up look at the world. He's also into technology, so this toy exposes him to that, too. He's used the photo and video functions with success, even put photos onto our computer and emailed them to people. We are still learning how to focus the lens and adjust the different zoom levels, but it doesn't seem too difficult. I would highly recommend this toy.
