"Does a great job", This Toshiba is a very easy to use combo recorder and produces excellent DVD's and VHS cassettes, just like I've come to expect from Toshiba. They always combine quality with simplicity. I bought it for two reasons: I needed to replace our 3-year old Symphonic combo (which did a great job as well but was getting tired after 800+ DVD recordings) and to upconvert properly to my new Samsung LCD. The up-converted videos are fantastic - kudos! The only drawback is it will only record the main speeds. I would have liked to see record modes in the 2.5 and 3 hours formats like my Symphonic. Whenever the content is more than 2 hours I have to use the 4 hour mode, which isn't as sharp a picture as the 2.5 or 3 hour formats of my Funai (Symphonic) SV2000. Otherwise, I love it! A good choice for doing any kind of SD recording.

"Excellent appliance", The advertising implied that one could go from tape to DVD within
this device. I was disappointed to find that one needs an extraneous
source for this to happen. It is the dream of every VHS tape collector
to convert with a single device.
Still, the recorder does what it is supposed to do excellently.
I am satisfied with my purchase.

"Good Buy So Far", Like many people, my VCR died, and I was stuck with figuring out which VCR/DVD combo to buy under $200. After reading all the reviews, I was terrified that whatever I chose would be junk.
I settled on this Toshiba. We have had a few weeks now, and so far, it has been an excellent choice. I found myself purchasing a lot more from Amazon lately, and have yet to be disappointed.

"Buyer beware", I don't know if this has happened to other people. This unit is probably good with the right TV. I really wanted to get a high quality DVD/VCR recorder/player to play DVDs and VHS tapes and to copy videos to DVD, and this one sounded good. The problem (which I had never heard mentioned before) is that it's (apparently) not compatable with my Sharp Equos HDTV. The DVD player works fine, but when I put a VHS tape in, the picture blinks on and off. I cannot even express how frustrated I am, after looking at a lot of different models and picking one that I thought was just what I was looking for, and priced so that I could manage to purchase it, that it is useless with my TV. (Pardon me while I vent). I called the Toshiba customer support and they said it sounds like a problem with the TV. I called Sharp customer support and they said it is an incompatability problem. Why doesn't anybody mention this possibility? Am I the only one that this has happened to? OK, I'm done. Very dissapointed.

"BUY THIS ONE IT WORKS", Very short - This unit DOES NOT have the Audio / Video syncronization problems that some units have. I tried a Samsung before this one and the Samsung had horrible audio delays. It was absolutely worthless. BUY THE TOSHIBA, trust me.

"Takes a little work to figure out, but well worth it!", This was our first purchase of a DVD/VCR recorder and I am not one to spend any more than I have to on electronics (or anything else), so I researched various recorders and their prices fairly extensively. I decided on this product and have been very pleased with my choice - both for features and value. I am not overly savvy with electronics, so I did have to read the manual and work at it a bit, but I was able to figure out how to dub my large VHS collection (purchased movies and self-recorded tapes) onto DVD and use one-touch and timed recording to record shows & movies from our satellite-connected TV. The picture and sound quality on the dubbed and recorded DVDs is top-notch, as is the quality of VHS tapes and DVDs played on the unit. I finalized the DVDs I dubbed/recorded and had no trouble at all playing them on a DVD player and a portable DVD player, all 3 of different brands. I definitely recommend this product.

"Very good - could be better", This is my first DVD recorder. It is very easy to copy VHS to DVD, not sure what people are complaining. You just follow the instructions. Have patience and you will be successful.. I get good quality DVD. I've the following complaints

1. I hate the remote, very bad response to commands.
2. I am disappointed that I can not create custom menus while burning gthe DVD


Can someone tell me if I can use dual layer DVD with this DVD recorder?


"Toshiba DVR 610 Great Product!", I bought this unit to convert old VCR tapes to DVD. So far(one month) it has worked perfectly. The learning curve is not real steep if you have experience with other electronics. If you're a novice it will be more difficult to figure out. The only negative with this item so far is the remote. It is very hard to read, and the button locations do not seem logical. This is a minor complaint. Overall, for the price, this is a great unit.

"Better than I thought it would be", I must admit I was a bit suspicious of this machine. I haven't been a fan of VHS for a very long time. I find that my partner is wanting to covert his VHS collection into DVDs and I looked all over the place for one that could also up convert. I, like many, bought Toshiba's HD player and LOVED it and how it up coverts my regular DVDs. So when I saw this machine I thought it would be perfect for my spouses needs. It is a marvel at design and much easier to use than I anticipated it would be. I do know that I will be happy to use it as much as my sweet heart is to covert his VHS tapes to DVD.

"Excellent DVD/VCR Combo Unit", This is a great product. I took it out of the box, set it up and immediately began recording my VHS tapes onto a DVD!
