What our customer's say!
"Don't buy this product there is no no no no SUPORT.", Try and regester this product is an impossibility. The questions asked of you are not only personal but intrusive. Your reward for opting out of the process on page 8 is to be gifted with a product that produces immages with "Trial Version" posted diagonally over every page. No one to talk to no help at all. I just purchased Adobe Professional and now the job is done properly with no intrusion into my personal life.
Listen to the one star people here...and save yourself some time and money.
"Good Software, Terrible Support", The software is good. But the company, Nuance, makes it very difficult to install or reinstall PDF Converter 5 and charges a hefty fee for service calls. Because of the installation and reinstallation problems and poor support, I am looking for another product for the same job.
"Excellent product", I have tested this software in several tasks and I'm very pleased with it. The software installed well, run without problems and I have not had any problem with the operative system. My OS is Windows XP service pack 2.
The software make very good work with any kind of PDF and in my experience the format is almost the same that the original. To convert to PDF there are several opitions of security and even you can configure one personal.
The interface is easy to manage and intuitive. Maybe the process to register is not easy and this is something to improve in the future.
I have not used the support yet because I have not had problems with the product.
September 6: In these days I have known the product pdf printer that make a good job and is very intuiteve, so I believe that nuance should think about improve its interface and that it could be very pleasant for the user to have a tree structure similar to the explorer to achieve the pdf conversion's process instead of use the interface of the pfd create and this could make the software a very good one.
"PDF Professioinal Converter 5", This product would not work properly in a fully updated Windows XP Professional system and fully updated Internet Explorer 6.X.
It would open *.PDF files that had been saved to my hard drive but would not open *.PDF files that were accessed through links from Outlook Express. It would open some internet resident files that were accessed directly from Internet Explorer.
Both Adobe Reader 8.X and 9.X had no problem opening the same *.PDF files.
Great perseverance was required to return this product to its manufacturer, Nuance, without paying return postage.
"Product seems to work OK so far. Activation & tech support stinks!", I'm on day 1 of using this software.
Creating a PDF is working fine.
Converting an existing PDF to MS Word is working fine, so far.
Converting an existing PDF with a table inside it; into MS excel is working OK, so far.
Annoyances/problems:
1. After installing software onto my PC, an annoying "activation" NAG screen keeps popping up everytime/anytime I launch the program and/or toggle between CREATING a PDF vs CONVERTING a PDF. Plus it decrements from 30 uses to none.
So off I went to ACTIVATE this whiner!
2. Activation:
a. I just went online, registered, and then activated it, but apparently it requires further MANUAL intervention by the enduser (lazy programmers at Nuance). Because I am still getting the pop-up about not being activated.
b. License key & activation problems: The setup/installation onto your PC works just fine with numbers and LOWER case letters . [For entering the alpha-numeric license code during installation of the software onto your PC].
But as soon as you get to Nuance's website and try to activate/register, by using their "Paste-serial-number-from-clipboard" button, you get an error! These boneheads keep kicking back your serial number as INCORRECT until you make it ONLY numbers and only "UPPER case" letters. (why doesn't Nuance spend a couple bucks on a 5 minute programming "FIX" and let the stinking webpage AUTO correct a small issue like these)
Next, trying to correct a serial number which was already "pasted" into the Nuance webform box [but contained lower-case letters]. Whenever I'd click my mouse next to a lower case letter and try to CHANGE it to an UPPERcase letter, a wretched pop-up window keeps WHINING about using "The PASTE button function only". For every 1 lower-case letter you try to change to upper-case; you have to answer 2 pop-up windows and make them go away. [Hey tightwads, fix your website's serial number entry form). [Go to Elance and hire a programmer for $2.00 an hour and FIX the problem with "YOUR" [NUANCE's] website]
I tried to be nice and contact Nuisance (whoops, I mean Nuance) about their problem. (Starting off an end-user experience like this is NOT going to endear me to rush out and buy any more NUANCE products; especially if they can't make the registration & activation process easier, functional and more streamlined)
Here's a frustrating experience; Just try contacting these Tight-fisted pukes with a simple FYI, to tell them about a website issue of their's.
These pukes expect you to shell out $9.95 per incident just to contact them. Sorry dudes, I'm not paying to fix YOUR website problems.
SUMMARY:
Pros - products looks/acts OK so far. - cheaper than Adobe
Cons - Just hope you NEVER need to contact NUANCE for ANYTHING. Or I should say; PLAN to NEVER contact them. [you can't even throw them a bone about how to improve their website without getting hit up for $9.95] -poor activation web setup - Deceptive/hidden cost details about tech support : - no mention on software box - no mention inside box, nor in User manual
I bought this program for myself. Once I test-drove it awhile, I was going to make recommendations to a large client about maybe switching to Nuance (from Adobe). I really have my doubts now; especially regarding their "nickel & dime-ing" attitude toward their end-users.
09-24-2008 update:
I tried converting a bunch of pdf's to word, so i can work with the data within the pdf's.
The program goes fairly fast through the conversion process, until you reach 99%. Then it sits there for what seems like an eternity.
My core-2-duo is not pegged for CPU usage (only 25-50%), but the hard disk light is almost solid.
I found that this program really has a hard time with any text within a book's front cover. Mostly comes out as a mangled mess. The text pages are decent in the translation. But plan to run auto-format within Word, to get things cleaned up.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Adequate for straightforward tasks", Works ok on straightforward tasks, but does not recognize images well, and can really screw up patents and patent applications.
"Customer support on All Nuance products is dismal at best", Scansoft products used to be decent products with strong support. That was before Nuance bought them out. Since capturing a basic monopoly on Voice to text, Text to Voice, scan to text, and PDF conversion, the company has grown arrogant, and less customer oriented than Microsoft at their worst. As one reviewer wrote, they charge you for customer support. The process goes something like this.
You visit the web page, and if you product is the current generation, or one prior, (it doesn't matter, current gen get treated no better)you have to enter in your license/product code, enter in your credit card number, and agree to be charged $9.95 for a totally useless email experience that only allows you access to their support page when you get a reply. My most recent experience involves Omnipage Pro, which has PDF converter and Creator built in. Omnipage Pro is such a slow and practicality useless program, that I uninstalled it after a week. However, a need came up where I needed a PDF converter, so I thought I'd load that part of the software.
I ran set up, used custom, had PDF creator and Converter installed leaving out the scanner software, entered in my key code, started the program, was asked if I wanted to activate the software, I did, however it wouldn't let me, telling me the license code was not valid. I attempted to find the problem/solution in their knowledge base, but don't bother, there is little if anything in there other than contact technical support.
So off to techincal support I went, only to discover that even for an installation problem, I had to pay. I did, after two days I got a response, telling me they needed my license code. As I'd had to enter it to get to the support page, this was irritating but I went to the webpage since they do no allow you to just hit respond. Entered in the key and two days later got another message telling me that my key code was for Omnipage Pro, not PDF converter. Gee, thanks for telling me that since I had to go to the Omnipage section to begin my initial inquiry.
I tried rewording my request, stating I have OmniPage pro, with comes with PDF creater and PDF Converter, and only wanted Converter to install, however it rejects my key code. Another two days pass, I get an emailed response telling me I don't have the proper code for PDF converter, mine is for Omnipage Pro. Again, I was grateful for the insight.
Back to the website, asked if there was anyway I could just install the portion of Omnipage that had the separate PDF. After more than a week passed, I get an email, telling me that I must install the entire program, register it, activate it, than I can uninstall the Omnipage pro leaving the PDF converter.
Following the instruction, I load the entire program, activate it, test PDF converter which works, go to add and remove, PDF creater and converter are listed separate from Omnipage,so I uninstall it per the directions of the last email. I go to use the PDF converter, it asks me if I want to activate it, (which I'd already done, but what the heck)it asks me for my key code, which I enter, only to get back a reply the key code I've entered is not valid.
Back to the website, explain the problem, and surprise, the response after two days is "your key code is not valid for PDF converter, only for Omnipage".
I give up, decide I'll just load the entire program and live with Omnipage taking up room. I install the entire program, enter the key code, asked to activate, which I do, only to get a message the key code is not valid as I've already installed Omnipage previously. Back to the webpage. set out the problem. A week goes by, I get a response asking me for the key code, and a screen shot, and a copy of the receipt. I supplied all, and am still waiting for a response.
My advice, stay away from all nuance programs. I've spent close to two hundred dollars for a Pro version of a product, received no free customer support, and after wasting more than two weeks, still have no product to run.
"No Special Treatment", Once you pay the full price for software, most companies slash the price for existing customers, when their next version comes out. Not Nuance.
Be aware and forewarned that if you buy this product, don't expect them to treat you as a valued customer. You will pay the full--and higher--price on their next version.
I have version 4. Nuance will not cut me a deal for version 5. With a grateful thanks for all the negative comments made by reviewers, here, I won't be buying it at all.
"PDF Converter Info", The product works well. Unfortunately, it does not allow me to do the one thing I wanted most, i.e., to save my changes to the document once I filled in the blanks.
"Bad experience ... terrible support!", Nuance PDF Converter Professional 4 had some really bad reviews, which made me somewhat nervous when purchasing version 5. However when comparing PDF Converter to Acrobat, the price of $[...] was too juicy to resist. Furthermore, the early reviews of this version suggested Nuance had released an improved product. I also expected that after 5 versions the software would be well tested.
I wish I had waited another month before buying as I certainly would have looked for another alternative.
The software runs crashes Firefox when opening a PDF, it also takes a long time to load up and then runs at snails pace when trying to edit a document.
I have just WASTED $[...]!
... and Nuance must must be kidding you have to PAY MONEY TO REPORT A PROBLEM WITH THEIR PRODUCT???? I really must consider this 'scam' when dealing with my clients.
