"Really disappointing"
I can't really give this product more than 1 star because I plan to return it the day after buying it.

I was expecting much better from this and was quite surprised at just how poorly it performs. Do they not have a QA department? Wasn't it tested? It's obvious few, if any, buyers are able to get acceptable reception from it. It kept fading in and out, finding "in use" channels when I clicked on the button to find a clear channel automatically, and even on a channel that seemed suitable it was still quite static sounding.

Lousy. Do not buy.

"Despite all the bad reviews... I enjoy this product."
My father bought this for me, along with an 8GB Ipod Nano for Christmas this year. Even my friends told me that the FM transmitter would suck, i played around with it for awhile, found a clear station that worked just fine. Only time it got a little fuzzy was when i parked at work under a metal awning. If you get a fuzzy station, find a new one. Thats all there is to it. I love it! Keep in mind, I live in Las Vegas, we have ALOT of radio stations, so that fact that I have had little/no issue with this product may say something about whether or not the amount of radio stations in an area effects the products functionality.

"Disappointing Perfromance, and Poor Workmanship"
I used this product for two months, and am now looking for a better replacement.
The unit is small and easy to use. The controls are fairly intuitive, being clearly marked and consistent in their functionality with most automotive stereos. The LCD display was well-designed and readable even in direct sunlight. The unit can transmit on any FM frequency, making it more flexible than some competing products.
As other reviewers have noted, the FM transmitter is weak; noticeably weaker than the two transmitters that I've previously used. Even in areas with few radio stations, it's hard to get a really clear signal from the unit. In areas with few gaps in the FM spectrum, the performance ranges between "better than nothing" to unusable, depending on atmospheric conditions.
The ClearScan function, while attractive in principle, is hit-or-miss. I found that I could always do better with a manual search for open stations, but the ClearScan usually found a decent station after a few tries.
Even with this poor performance, the Belkin was better than some FM transmitters, and would have earned three stars. What pushed the unit over the edge was that the wiring gave out after just two months of use. First the right stereo line started dropping out intermittently, and then all of the audio dropped out. The break happened right where the wiring connects to the transmitter, at a location that had not been flexed or stressed to any noticeable degree, suggesting either poor design or inadequate quality control.
I would advise skipping this purchase, and looking for a different product.

"Poor Product"
This is an awful product. It doesn't work in cities with a lot of FM Radio Stations. Amazon.com and ANTONonline have a 15% re-stocking fee + return shipping fee. I was out of pocket almost 50% of original purchase price after trying product.

"Quite Expensive and Very Bad"
Got this for my 3G iPhone. Read many unfavorable reviews for this item, but decided to give it a try after seeing it featured on Motorweek. Plus ClearScan was a technology that few other FM transmitters offered which I was curious to try. I was sorely disappointed by its performance after a few days of using it. The channels suggested by ClearScan can be described as random, never producing an optimum channel. Static was always present, and any slight movement of the thing-a-majig causes sound distortion. I'm definitely going to return this thing.

What our customer's say!

"Please do not buy this", I cannot make it work on my BMW at all. It never finds a good frequency. I was able to get it working on my Passat but with a lot of static.

"Decent performance, but be aware there are two models!", I bought this because I had previously purchased one from Walmart that worked quite well. That one actually sent the artist and song name to the radio via RDS too. I thought this was the same product, but evidentally there are two different models and this one doesn't send RDS info.

The quality of the music was fine however, but I don't expect a lot from FM modulators. It's good enough, and there are enough empty channels to choose from in my area.

I wish that these would tune lower though: my radio will tune to 87.5, but this only starts at 87.9 MHz.

Not bad, and it works fine with both a iPhone 16GB original (silver back) and an iPhone 16GB 3G.

"Not too Shabby", I live in Central Massachusetts, and recently upgraded from and iPhone to an iPhone 3G. I had been using a Monster iCarplay, and found that while it allowed me to play music from my 3G it no longer charged the device during use. I read the reviews for the Belkin TuneCast, and was skeptical. I love the Monster device, and was having a hard time finding something comparable so I decided to give it a shot. The bottom line, this device does exactly what it says it does. It allows me to play music from my 3G's iPod over my car radio, charges, and even allows me to keep the phone enabled without interference. I have two stations set using the memory buttons that seem to work the best with the device. I found that the "ClearScan" seems to mostly choose stations at random, and these are not always the clearest. I've found that if you place the tuner portion of the Belkin closer to the actual radio, it works much better, so I have applied it directly to a panel on my dash using sticky-back Velcro. HD radio this is not. If you want crystal clear sound with no static then install a stereo that directly links your iPod with it. There's some static, and sometimes you need to use a different channel, but for a device this affordable, that broadcasts over FM radio waves, I am satisfied with the product, and the sound.

"Highly disappointed!", I bought this about six months ago. It's been nothing but a struggle. Do not buy this transmitter!

I live in a medium-sized town, and shouldn't have trouble finding a channel to transmit my iPod through. Well, I haven't found a channel that works well yet. I even took the arial off my car, and even then, the sound was static mixed with music. Sometimes if I held the transmitter in my hand while driving (great idea, eh?), it was able to overcome the static. Oh, but if I put my car's air conditioning or heat on, the static increased.

Anyway, I bought my friend a much lower-priced Griffin iTrip, and when I used it in my car, I was shocked at the difference. The sound was clear even on channels that weren't completely without noise. I could even leave the arial on my car with the Griffin transmitter.

So, today I went out and bought a Griffin iTrip. I wish I could return this Belkin piece of junk, but I no longer have the receipt or packaging. I will probably just throw it away as it isn't even good enough to hang on to for a backup. I can see that almost everyone here has had the same experience with the Belkin.

"VERY POOR PRODUCT - DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!", My wife bought me this item because the salesperson at Best Buy steered her away from the DLO Transdock I had asked for (They no longer carry it). Unfortunately, now I have to return it. My complaints are in-line with the rest. Poor FM reception, Clearscan NEVER finds clear channels. Even when it does find a clear channel, the reception is fuzzy at best. This thing's a piece of junk. You are obviously doing your homework by checking the reviews. Now, LISTEN TO THEM!!!! Stay clear of this junk!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"hope you love hissing", I agree with most of the unfavaorable reviews here. Scan rarely found an open channel. When I proped this up as high as the cord allowed it would get useable results....but there was a hiss I was unable to get rid of over my 12 hour road trip, very annoying! I took this back as soon as the trip was over.

"Mixed results...", I've had very mixed results with this, but the overall results have not been good enough to convince me to keep it. In cities, the ClearScan feature never seemed to land on an "open" station and the static was unbearable, to the point where I couldn't even tell what song was playing. Additionally, buildings, geographic features, and even buses caused interference with the reception. I've also taken this transmitter on road trips, where it performed quite well, especially on long, open stretches of lonely highway. When driving long distances, I found that I could leave the Tunecast on one station for several hours with a clear enough signal to listen to spoken audiobooks. Nevertheless, as most of my driving is in an urban area, I traded the Tunecast for a Griffin itrip, which seems to work much better.

"adequate but not as good as my old Kensington", I was very disappointed when I discovered that my 3G iPhone did not work with my Kensington. I opted for the Belkin because at the time it was the only available FM tuner product. I purchased and first used the Belkin TuneCast in Ann Arbor and the metro Detroit area. Unfortunately Ann Arbor/Detroit has almost no free FM spots on the dial. The TuneCast identified some free stations but did not always seem to work. Often I found myself manually looking for stations. As for clarity I can say that the Belkin worked fine as long as there were no other radio stations in the vicinity. I'm fortunate as I live in Europe where there are no where near as many radio station as in the US. My Belkin works perfectly here producing very clear and nice sound. If you plan on using the Belkin TuneCast in an area that does not have too many radio stations, you might want to give the TuneCast a try.

"The only one for now", Got it because its the only fm transmitter that will charge my 3g iPhone. It replaced my monster icar play 200. The best thing about this is the clear scan works in 1sec. However it seems to work like a random number generator, not actually picking a station it will work good on. I live outside Portland Maine, so its not exactly a big city. My car has an antenna in the rear window. If I don't orient the display just right I get static. But If I get it in just the right spot it sounds fairly good, with a little static on the quiet parts of the music. It will over power some very weak signals, but mostly it gets overpowered. I get a warning message to goto airplane mode. If anyone knows a mod to this thing to boost the power I would like to know.

"Good seller, bad product...", Product shipped quickly and arrived in a timely manner. Unfortunately the product itself was deffective and would not charge my iPod while it was transmitting. Thankfully Belkin has an excellent RMA program where they send you the replacement before you send them the busted one.

All in all a good transaction since the replacement works great. Clearscan is an awesome feature that is very helpful for finding free stations.
