"good service and a great product"
Made a setup with time capsule and the product is excellent.
Also a very quick delivery

"disappointing reliability"
the good news is that the hard drive / time machine part works well
the bad news is that all of the computers on my network (leopard or vista) randomly lose the router every couple of days. it is extremely annoying and i am now at the point of having to spend money to replace the product as i cant take it anymore.
Many people on the apple forums recommend rebooting the router every week but i have had many linksys routers before this apple one and never once had to resort to that kind of action.
in summary the quality of this product has been an disappointment for me.

"Useful For So Many Reason"
It's strange that wireless has become so ubiquitous that one would by a router like this and not use the wireless capabilities at all. But that is exactly what we've done.

We have 16 of these Time Capsules acting solely as remote backup drives. We've turned off all wireless and router capabilities. Each machine has a static ip address and we connect to it for our Time Machine backups.

Overall, the hardware has been magnificent and the "Airport Utility" makes it quite easy to configure the device.

"No Muss, No Fuss - An Effortless Appliance"
I swapped out my old Apple Airport Extreme for this Time Capsule, left the network name and password unchanged -- and that was it. My desktop, and my wife's and my iPhones and MacBooks acted like nothing had changed. No settings to update or anything.

Except a couple things had changed. First, our network got lots faster. Second, now both of our 160GB MacBooks are always backed up on one hard drive, wirelessly and seemingly magically.

How cool is that?

"Hard to make fit with an existing network infrastructure"
I expect that if you have just one Mac connected to the Internet then this is a fine product. However, if you already have a mature network setup with multiple devices connected and you do not wish to disturb your environment then it seems unnecessarily difficult to connect this device to your network. The Time Capsule configuration seems to be obsessed with setting up a wireless network. I've had my capsule for 24 hours and so far only one of the two Macs I'm backing up to it have backed up successfully. I have had to reboot my wireless access point several times since I put the infernal Time Capsule on my network. While over time I might migrate network functions to Time Capsule (wireless network provision, printer sharing) I really do not want to have to completely re-configure my entire network just to use Time Machine. At the moment I am 50/50 over whether or not to return this box to the store.

What our customer's say!

"Pretty good", Not bad. Integrates nicely with OS X and good support for multiple external USB hard drives. The only thing I would like to see is to have the option to automount the external hard drives "on demand" just as the internal hard drive is mounted in OS X. Other than that, no problems thus far!

"Lousy instructions, no cables", Needless to say, it requires cables that are not included. This is wireless? It also requires you to know whether you are using a "Static IP address" or "PPP" for your internet service. What the hell do these mean?

"Learning the hard way", I've been a user of Mac osx for 5 years. I bought a Time Capsule recently, and am sharing this experience to save others pain. The device is good; but the user's manual is seriously deficient. Some tech writers are simply too close to the product to be able to see it with new eyes. They assume basics on behalf of a new user which simply are not there. I spent major portions of two days undoing the results of poor communications in the owner's guide for this device.

I bought the machine at the Apple Store in Buffalo, and they helped me set it up. So it seemed it should be a simple matter of taking it home and running it. Well, life is complicated. It turns out that my Intego firewall software was conflicting with the hardware firewall which comprises this device. So back to the store I went. (This was not Apple's fault; but I spent 2.5 hours at the store working with a guy at the genius bar. They're well named.) Nevertheless, the overlap of the firewalls could have been mentioned in the manual. After the genius solved the conflict issue, I went home assuming I would simply be able to plug in the device and live happily ever after.

Not So! And here's where the poor assumptions of the tech writers are to blame. Nowhere in the owner's guide is there a basic startup procedure. (Think of a new car buyer not being told in writing to put the key in the ignition, put your foot on the brake, start it up and put it in gear, before attempting to go anywhere.) These basic operating instructions were entirely missing. As a result, I tried to start up the device in a clumsy fashion, and ran it off the road -- only to have to take it back to the store for another hour of resetting the gizmo's preferences. I'm not a Mac novice. This all could have been avoided with the most basic of instructions. The Time Capsule seems like a great device; but the basics could be covered better. In retrospect, I should have insisted that the genius shut down the entire rig, and let me (no genius) take it out for a spin. This would have saved us both considerable time and effort. We both would have noticed that I had no license to operate this hotrod. Instead, I had to come back the next day to have said genius do his work over.

HINT: start the device from the uppermost toolbar along the top of your screen. (The icon spins slowly.) But first click on the banded arcs shaped as a slice of pie (the airport icon). Select the network to connect to, named during set up -- or found at a local hotspot. Beginning at the beginning is tremendously helpful! (Tinkering with panes that appear on the desktop is not. That's not were the ignition switch will be found.)

"Just what I needed", Easy to setup, works great, no problems so far. I have a laptop so this works great for a backup. I won't use it as my only backup device, but it is great for daily backups

"Great product, easy to set up, works great.", Great product, 5 stars. Set up was easy, it works with no issues. I had Linksys before and it was on and off all the time. Apple Time Capsule is running with no issues, adding new computer to my home wifi network is easy, backup works great. I love it. Great job Apple!

"Keep looking", If you are looking for a reliable router, keep looking.

3 days after the 90 day warranty (phone support) the TC started overheating and slowing my connection. The Apple support guy was a real tool. He wanted me to pay to talk to him. Appalling.

After insisting to speak to a supervisor and 1 week later, I finally convinced Apple to replace my TC.

As soon as I got it, it was on Ebay. Avoid this unit like the plague.

Buy Dlink or Linksys, a product that's reasonably priced and well supported.

"great for apple computers but, hard drive is very slow", I purchased this product expecting to have wireless hard drive and printer set up. I attached hard drive and printer to time capsule. Printer works fine and hard drive is very slow. it is only adequeate for document server purpose Also time machine takes forever!

"gets a tad hot ...", got this to (sorta) replace a lacie 2big nas that is a bit too noisy & has a few other issues:
pros: really quiet. the 11n radio is very powerful. typical attractive (imho) apple design.
cons: gets really really hot, then kills its server, which forces a disconnect; kinda inconvenient when attempting a backup (i'm not using time machine to this device). a power reset is then required.

caveat: i swapped its 500gb drive for a wd green 1tb drive. but that supposedly runs cooler ...

"Time Capsule", Had difficult making connection from my Macbook. After making connections, it works great. Love how I can add a hub for extra USB hookups. Make sure your hub has a power adapter or you will not be able to see all of your hookups. I dislike when I reboot my computer, I have to reconnect the internet. My airport in my Macbook doesn't just reconnect without a little help. All in all, I would recommend it.

"Best Wireless Router Backup Drive Available", I replaced my old wireless router with the Apple Time Capsule. Installation and setup was easy and straightforward. I had everything up and running in about 30 minutes. We have a PC desktop and Mac laptop which both work seamlessly with the time capsule. At first look the time capsule appears expensive, but remember that it includes a 500GB backup drive which will automatically backup and sync with the Mac Time Machine. You can also Drag and Drop from the PC or use Drive image software and copy an image onto the drive. The wireless modem is extremely fast and covers all three floors of my house.
