"Great with my Mac, but not on Vista"
I consider myself to be very knowledgeable about electronics and computers so I was a little annoyed that I couldn't figure out how to get this to work with Vista. My plan was to back up all my photos on the external hard drive before I send my PC in to get downgraded to XP. I spent 2 hours trying to get this to work but all I could figure out was how to install their Google Desktop (spyware) software and back up emails and documents that were sent and received with Outlook, a program I don't use. I gave up after talking to tech support for 1/2 an hour.

On the other hand, I plugged this into my iMac and it works beautifully! No setup, no spyware, no worries.

"Very Nice Unit"
It's always nice when something works the way you expect it to, with no esoteric drivers or configuration problems. It's a breeze to pop the drive in your pocket and have 160GB of quick, portable HD space. Much faster than a flashdrive.

If I were to say anything bad, it would be that the drive came formatted FAT32, requiring an immediate reformat to NTFS.

"Good for once in a wile use"
Its very light and small, so its good to take with you. Has a slower data transfer speed that normal external hard drive, so keep that in mind.

"HD for Dummies", Needed an external drive for backup purposes.

I ordered, it came in a timely fashion and in good condition.
Worked as advertised.

No techie skills required.
I did need to make some changes to be able to backup entire system, but instructions were available and easily followed.

"Not so sure I bought this item", I bought one of these babies a month and a half ago and am not all that pleased. I have several machines that I routinely move information from/to and back up. I needed a reliable and portable solution. I've had several problems with some of my machines ingesting this drive and so am concerned about long-term reliability. If you're considering a disk like this, review all alternatives first!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"does the job, poor built-in software", I just use it for data backup. It was well-priced, does the job, and is slim and easy to transport. I cannot say very much about data transfer, etc. The backup software it comes with is surprisingly poor. It is not easy or intuitive to use, and it reinstalls itself every time I try to use it.

"Do not buy this product if you want to store important information", Went through 2 of these. The first one was broken and just made a clicking sound and would not show up on the computer. I sent that back and received another new one that worked for about month and a half, that did the same thing. The hard drive which is supposed to hold your important information lost all of my work,pictures,music...EVERYTHING. PLEASE READ CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB. Western digital will not stand behind their products and dont care about your important information. 2 hard drives and both broken...PLEASE DO NOT BUY WESTERN DIGITAL PORTABLE HARD DRIVES!!!! THEY DO NOT WORK.

"Received this external hard drive .", This external hard drive has been working just fine since it arrived in a timely manner last month. I am putting my videos and photos on it for archiving.

"Great Storage Device", This is my second Passport drive. It is a great little drive that I can take all my files with me wherever I go. Its transfer rate is a little slow, but I can live with that.

"WD External Hard Drive", This external hard drive is great. It has a sleek finish to it, it's extremely light weight, and has more memory than I could ever use. It's perfect for taking with you somewhere, or leaving on your desk near your computer.
