"Doesn't work with VPN (at least not with DSL and Frontier Communications)"
I bought this router and spent almost 10 hours talking with the NETGEAR and Frontier (DSL provider) technical support teams over two nights. They each blamed the other on the fact it would not configure and allow me to get connected to my work via VPN. In the end it was not worth my time. I sent it back to Amazon and had no problems doing that. I would buy from Amazon.com anytime. But in the end I bought a Belkin N1 and it literally took 1 minute to setup and VPN was working right away. If you only need the internet for play, I'm sure this NETGEAR is just fine. If you need it for work via a VPN connection, I would buy a Belkin.

"Not worth the cost"
I purchased these 2 units 5/30/2008 and now it's 10/5/2008 and the wireless has stopped working altogether. If you don't believe me, please go to the Netgear support forum to see all the people who has the same problem.

Because of the better reviews on here, I ended buying two of this unit to replace my older wireless-G Buffalo Tech. This was a mistake. From the start, the wireless keeps dropping each time I tried to VNC or VPN into my network and I would end up being locked out and until I was able to manually power down the unit and restart it. I've tried upgrading the firmware and still to no avail.

Netgear won't accept a return or exchange because its pass the warranty date. I guess I own two large black plastic tower for decoration now.

"Works well"
From the time I took it out of the box till the time it was setup and running was less than 10 minutes. I set my static IP's, secured the wireless and was done in no time. The unit has functioned flawlessly since installation and I have noticed a definite difference in speed from a 10/100 router.

"Unreliable "
I've been a Netgear user for years and was happy to upgrade an old B router with the latest technology. The first time I worked at home after installing it I noticed that my internet connection was resetting about once every minute or two. After checking the router I discovered that the router itself was resetting. I discovered from additional checking of other reviews here an on other forums on the web that this seems to be a common problem with this model. Needless to say I have returned the unit and will be a lot more hesitant about buying another Netgear product in the future.

"NetGEAR RangeMax N Router"
Provides full coverage in my 5000 sq. ft. house for G and N devices. I found this to be very reliable.

What our customer's say!

"Netgear RangeMax Wireless N", Tried to set up as per the instructions and had a problem connecting. Called the Netgear helpline and was up and running in 5 minutes. Very happy now and have had NO other Problems. I recommend this unit.

"This Netgear router is easier to setup and reliable as ever!!!", I owned a older Netgear Router that started to drop my internet connections. So I started researching for a new Wireless-N Router. After searching over product reviews and pricing. I wanted to make sure I buy a router that was future proof, well as least for awhile. So I choose this router because it was Wireless-N and Gigabit Router all rolled into one. I recently purchase a new HP that is also wireless. It was easy to connect and setup my wireless network for my printer. I have both hardwire and wireless devices on the router. I also love the auto update feature that is built into the router when you login into it. I recommend this product due to reliablity, easy setup with both hardware and wireless networks and pricing. Italia247 out.

"NETGEAR WNR3500", This is a great system, easy to set-up, strong signal, no drops. My kids and wife use the laptop about 3-4 nights a week for homework or shopping. They just boot up the laptop and go.

I purchased this to go with my new fiber optic high speed internet as we choose to give up dial-up so the oldest can get homework done in a timely fashion. The installer set-up it up for me, 'cause NETGEAR is always a problem, of course he picked the WEP protocol and said that was easy and left. I bought it for the WPA2 and the local office supply store was closing out the notebook adapter for $20.00. Re-setting the security to WPA2 was easy, I just the used the supplied CD for the owners manual. I've got signal strong everywhere in my two-story and I can use the local how spot from corner coffee house, if only they did not turn if off at night...

No problems after 30 days.

"Junk", Don't buy it. Most of the time I couldn't access it or even ping it. The few times it did function, the wireless was solid but otherwise crashing most of the time. Resetting it many times and using known-good cables did nothing.

"defective", unit defective out of the box.
Wired works fine.
Wireless disconnects every few minutes - router needs reboot...then it loses wireless again in a few seconds to a few minutes.

"Not as good as it should be", This router sounded like it should do everything I wanted. High speed, provides QOS, many antennas should give good range, etc.

Unfortunately it fails to deliver. Not that the features aren't there, they are, but it appears to be plagued with several issues:

- The primary issue is that the wireless connection drops frequently. So far, about 5 times an hour. Changing networks, security settings, checking for latest firmware (something it does automatically) have not fixed this.

- The DNS Proxy in it stops responding. This means you type an address and get nowhere. A power cycle is needed to fix that.

- Internet performance is intermittent. The router appears to slowly slow down your connection. I believe that the QOS cannot cope with running services like BitTorrent. Gradually the router slows down.

I would not recommend buying this. In fact I am considering returning it as it is unable to actually operate in a stable manner. Let's see what Netgear support does in the next 24h.

"Wireless Connection Drops Issue!!", I now had this router for almost 2.5 months and as some other reviews reported I also ran into multiple issues for wireless connection drops and unable to connect. All these problems started after I had this router for more then 30 days so I couldn't simiply return it and hence need to find a workaround/fix. This router worked flawlessly for first 30 days but when I changed my appartment I ran into so many problems I thought of just dumping this into garbage and getting linksys but then I refused to give up my $120 without a flight.

In order to fix the problem I did the following
1. Installed lastest updates for my router.
2. Installed lastest wireless adapter drivers on both of my laptops.
3. Reduced the MAX router speed from 300Mbs to 145Mbs (http://192.168.1.1 => Wireless Setting)
4. Tried choosing different Channels until I found 1 where my wireless connection got stable.

Since performing all the above steps I didnt faced any problems whatsoever but I can only use half of the speed allowed on Wireless N. To my understanding problem seems to be that when you use setting for 300Mbs rounter has to use as many as 5 channels at the sametime and chances of conflict with another network become very high. Hope this helps someone going through the same issues as mine.

Just to add to this I also had linksys 310 N router for 2 weeks before I switched to netgear and the reason for the switch was that I only got 130 Mbs connection speed v/s 300Mbs allowed so I decided to give a try to netgear.

"Excellent Product", This is an excellent product especially if you are running Vista. It was very easy to install and has work like a champ since I installed it. It does not require a Computer Geek to install. A couple easy instructions and you are operational. Go for it!

"wireless connections dropped, stopped working altogether after 25 days", We experienced two major problems with this router:

1) Wireless connections are frequently dropped, especially from laptop clients. Updating the firmware seemed to help--the frequency of dropped connections was reduced to every day or two, instead of multiple times per day. But dropped connections once every day or two is still not good.

2) The router stopped working altogether after only 25 days. No power light, nothing--just died in the middle of a work day.

We're waiting on a replacement unit from Amazon now (26Aug08). Will update review when we've had the replacement unit for a while.

"Super reception and speed", I upgraded from a pre-N Linksys model because my internal N WIFI product kept dropping the signal. The NetGear RangeMax Premium Wireless-N Gigabit Router has been flawless. It has never dropped my connection. The speed is comparable to a wired connection or better. I got what I wanted.
