"Worth it"
I would have liked to watch this again. Saw it once. I enjoyed the performances, and the quiet but deadly build-up. As I recall, no car chases, which is a blessing in any movie. Tilda Swinton's role as the unraveling robot is masterful. Clooney plays a corporate burnout well enough to be one. Some people call it predictable, but I did not find it so, because I viewed it more as a character study that a plot-driven story. The guy who plays Clooney's friend has a great turn at a monologue that shows how clever -- and sane -- he is, despite everyone believing he's nuts.

"GOOD MOVIE"
THIS MOVIE WAS GOOD BUT NOT THE TYPE OF CHARACTER THAT GEORGE CLOONEY SHOULD HAVE PLAYED

"A top notch thriller"
George Clooney portrays a really pushed to the wall attorney which
portrays a modern day possible situation which may be happening right
in our own back yard. This film keeps you on the edge of your seat with
just a minimum of tapering off of action so you may catch your breath.

"Huzzah for lawyers"
Michael Clayton is a fairly fast-paced look at the life and struggles of the titular character, a 'fixer' at a prestigious law firm. Filled with great performances and enough suspense and intrigue to keep me interested, I greatly enjoyed it. One small quibble I had was with the ending - it seemed somewhat out of place with the rest of the movie. Overall, though, a highly enjoyable experience.

Tangentially, my favorite scene was when Clooney confronts Tom Wilkinson's character in an alley - great work by the latter there.

"not very interesting"
This isn't one of George Clooney's better movies. Right from the beginning the movie demands a LOT of your attention, or you will end up very confused in a matter of 5 minutes. The suspense or mystery wasn't really intriguing to me, and the only part that really interested me was when George's character pulled over to some field, seen some unusually quiet horses, then his car blew up behind him, shocking him badly (and shocking the viewers too- didn't see THAT coming!)

After that scene, you really need to pay close attention to everything else to understand what's going on.

What our customer's say!

"Dull with a dash of boring", 2.5 stars. I gave up on this movie the first time, but then a friend told me that I needed to stay with it because it got better. She lied. I didn't find anything about this movie either thrilling or suspenseful. The ending was a little too pact and yet again in a George Clooney movie ( ex. Syriana) I never come to care about the characters. Well, maybe poor Arthur. Clooney does turn in an average performance, but the movie is dull regardless.

"brilliantly dense and subtle", The film is deliciously dense. It's so clearly a film written to be a film; it treasures the visual medium. Dialogue is often minimal, and the viewer is forced to pay attention. The story is told in the details, and I thought I was missing things at first. It's subtle and seems subdued until the last ten minutes, when all the details and images come together seamlessly. It's a film that gets better the more you think about it; one further realizes how intentional every frame is.

I've enjoyed many of Tony Gilroy's films, but I may have to actually watch The Cutting Edge now. I'm quite curious about the one film that doesn't fit with the rest of his resume.

Overall, I think it was better than No Country for Old Men, which won the Best Picture Oscar. They're certainly both great movies, but at the end of the day, Michael Clayton felt more complete. I'm incredibly partial to movies written to be movies rather than those adapted from books. They're different means of storytelling, and they're not always as compatible as producers seems to think.

George Clooney was good. Tilda Swinton was good. Tom Wilkinson was amazing. Sydney Pollock was great.

Rent it when you're in the mood for an intellectual thriller. Buy it when you realize it hasn't left your head for days. Watch repeatedly.

"The less you know, the better", The less you know about civil litigation, the better you'll like Michael Clayton. The film is generally well-acted, though you may wonder why the rather hammy Tom Wilkinson drops into an Irish brogue in his big dramatic scene. George Clooney proves that he can carry a movie; having seen him only in the Ocean's series, I'd thought he was George Hamilton without the tan. Sydney Pollack is quite believable as the managing partner.

The tricky and very arty opening adds little to the film except unnecessary confusion. If you wonder why Clooney goes over toward the horses, that's the director's homage to a much better film, The Asphalt Jungle, which is as taut and believable as this film isn't.

As for the legal background, writer-director James Gilroy didn't even begin to do his homework. Wilkinson's contacts with the plaintiff are as unethical as the evil corporation's withholding of the key document. By the way, the plaintiff would have requested all reports made about the product (duh!), and all Wilkinson had to do was send a copy to opposing counsel, as he would ethically be required to do. Furthermore, when a lawyer begins to have a breakdown during a big case, the firm would bring in a more senior and more experienced partner. Bring in someone who didn't make partner? Only in Hollywood.

"A film with the right parts, but ends up being too staged", The film does have a strong feel and Clooney gives a solid performance. I found Pollack's lawyer especially sharply drawn and convincing. In the end, the movie becomes another rehashing of The Insider. The screenwriter tried to create the typical conflicted sub-plot of the protagonist's battle with his professional/moral obligations and his personal struggles, etc, however this was not highly nuanced. Of course their was the divorced dad angle too for more contrived emotional push. The one liners that are stirring in the trailers turn out be banal in the context of the plot, which turns into a simple-minded rampage of a corporation hell-bent on eliminating all whistle-blowers. As for the attorney who "sees the light", although strongly performed by Wilkinson, his self-revelation becomes cliched scene-by-scene.

"Corporate/Suspense...Great Combo! ", I was a bit skeptical about this movie when I first heard about it, but I finally got around to picking it up on Blu Ray. First off let me start by saying this movie is not for people who only want action, explosions, and shootouts. Ill start off with the BD details: The picture is excellent on this film, its smooth and the skin tones have a nice color and smooth texture, the outdoor scenes are very crisp...I was impressed with the picture. The sound is only 5.1 DD, this was a bit disappointing, but got the job done nonetheless. Clear highs, great voice depth, and deep lows when needed...I cant complain to much.

Now onto the movie...I will admit I sat down to watch this and figured it was gonna be slow, however its a good paced slow. I enjoyed the characters, and George Clooney did an excellent job. His position at a huge law firm requires him to be serious and quick on his toes...George does this perfectly and really convinced me.

I found myself enjoying the "thinking" throughout the entire movie, who did this, whats going on with that, it made for a very good experience! I wont give away any spoilers, since they are the best part of this movie. All in all id say this one is definitely worth checking out, you wont be disappointed.

"Great Company", Very fast shipping, everything was as described. Fantastic deal. Will definitely deal with this company again.

"Lively thriller.", This is a lively thriller that goes deeper than it appeared from the trailer or previews. An attorney with a conscience is killed when he tries to help a young girl being hurt by a huge corporate cover up. His friend, Michael Clayton, is the next on the hit list and pursued once he begins to peel away the layers of his friend's mysterious death. When Clayton accidentally uncovers a pile of lies, the only way to save himself seems to be 'playing dead' while he sniffs out the people behind the arranged 'accidents'.

"Risky business.", In my opinion, this is a film you must watch more than one time. The first time, you absorb the plot as a whole. The other times you watch it to catch the nuances. I thought George Clooney is really fine in a discreet interpretation of a kind of lawyer specialized in cleaning up the mess from some clients. Unfortunately, he has to dealt with a huge of a problem involving a powerful corporate law firm and a more powerful and dangerous client. Innocent people's lives are threatened and a courageus but tormented attorney (Tom Wilkinson) bring up all the deadly mess. Cloney then chooses the side he wishes to stay with a clever outcome.

"Intelligent Filmmaking, or Subpar Execution?", Without a doubt, I love the film Michael Clayton. A big proponent for me about why I love films is the atmosphere they give off, and Michael Clayton oozes atmosphere. The dark blues, the deep blacks, the lingering almost haunting background music and the few loud, bright explosions make you jump. However, this will mean that some people will find the film boring, slow, dumb and hard to follow. And honestly, I can understand why people have those feelings about Clayton, this isn't a big crime mystery filled with suspense, this is a dialogue driven movie, and one that succeeds with that in mind.

Playing Michael Clayton is the brilliant George Clooney who shows that he doesn't need to be humorous or cunning to make a character come to life. Clooney's portrayal of Clayton works because of the little things; the facial animations and the way he speaks. Clayton is good at what he does, but he's ultimately a wreck for numerous reasons. He hides in his suits and confuses people about just what exactly he is, but beneath we see his life isn't so solid. But that's not the story of the film.

The story - I think, I'm not even actually positive here because the film is a bit confusing at times, even after multiple viewings - is about corporate greed, corrpution and "fixing errors". The company in question is U/North which has a bad habit of killing people will some bad products or reactions from them, and they've hired someone to defend them in court. However, as the story unravels, this man turns against U/North and either goes crazy, or is finally thinking clearly - depending on which side of the story you're on. This character, Arthur, is played brilliantly by Tom Wilkenson.

He's wild, talks fast, loud and a bit of a loose screw and compliments Clooney perfectly by being the opposite of the composed and quiet Clayton.

As the movie progresses, it gets a little blurry about what's happening and why something happens and why someone does what they do or who they even are. But if you give the film a chance to grow and if you can sit through it and pay attention, chances are you'll enjoy it.

Obviously, trying to be such a serious film means it should do everything correctly, and there are numerous glaring weaknesses about crucial points in the film. Without giving too much away, I'll say this; if you've seen any CSI episodes or know anything basic about how police complete crime scene scenarios, you will scoff at 2 major moments in the film.

If I just had to give it a score about overall enjoyment, I would easily give it a 5/5, however, if I was to give a more detailed and cynical analysis of it, I would give the film an 8/10.

"Top-notch cast in rather pedestrian tale of selling out in the legal profession", This is a tough review to write. I am a huge fan of virtually everyone involved in this movie, from George Clooney to Sydney Pollack to Tom Wilkinson to Tilda Swinton to Steven Soderberg to Kevin Gilroy to . . .

"Michael Clayton" tells the story of how the titular character (Clooney, rather more vulnerable than usual) struggles to save his soul, even though he's an attorney. (Ha ha.) He's an admittedly unusual attorney, a "fixer" for a top New York firm. On the firm's website, he's special counsel for trusts and estates. In reality, he's the guy a congressman calls when his daughter gets busted with cocaine or a rich executive is guilty of a hit-and-run.

Deep in debt, struggling with a broken family, Clayton gets thrown into the mix of his firm's soulless representation of a soulless megacorporation that has poisoned hundreds of innocent civilians with its chemical products. If this sounds familiar, it's because we've gone over this ground a gazillion times before ("A Civil Action," "Erin Brockovich" ring a bell?).

So no matter how well-written the story, how solid the behind-the-camera talent, or how great the cast is, one cannot escape the fact that we have been here before. So does "MC" break any new ground?

For all its talent and all the intelligence that went into the movie, not really. This movie does not rise to the level of great courtroom dramas, such as "The Verdict" or even "A Few Good Men."

And so it's a three-star flick. This is a solid line-drive single rather than a home run, if you will. Again, this is tough for me to write because I wanted to fall in love with this movie. Oh well. Back to "O Brother Where Art Thou?" and "Out of Sight" it is.
