"The New Glucose Revolution"
This is an excellent book about the "new" approach to diet for those who may have been diagnosed as "pre-diabetic" or with diabetes. Contains extensive guides to foods with a "Glycemic Index" rating to help one monitor the best approach to diet that will help control the blood-glucose levels. Highly recommended. Earl Young

"Great Book"
This is a wonderful book that everyone should own. Lots of great info. Easy to follow plan for getting & staying healthy.

"Great reference, poor printing"
A fact filled book with tons of easy to understand explanations. This is not a how to guide for weight loss. If you are looking for a turnkey diet this is not for you. If you are willing to read and want to learn why you should change the way you eat then this is a good book.

The publishing leaves a lot to be desired. It is printed on paper that reminded me of comic book paper. Very cheap.

"A sales job rather than a 'how to'"
I know this book has rave reviews, which is why I ordered it after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. But it seems to me that most of the book is bascially meant to sell the reader on the fact that the GI is a worthwhile measure to use to eat well.

It has only "more than 45 recipes"...and its "authoritative tables of GI values" are, for the most part useless. You can find most of the information for the staples listed on the Internet, like those for beans and fruits. Much of the tables include name-brand products that I would never use. For example:

--Under beverages, it lists the values for products like: Trim Advantage, President's Choice.

--Under cookies and crackers: Ancient Grains by President's Choice, Cranberry Orange by President's Choice, gluten-free choc chip cookie, Ryvita Fruit Crunch Crispbread, Wheat and Sesame Snack Crackers by President's Choice.

--Dairy: Frozen Yogurt, Mochaccino, President's Choice; for many individual flavors of Yoplait yogurt.

I bought this book to learn how to eat lower GI foods. I struggled through the first many chapters of the authors trying to convince me that GI is an acceptable measure.

If you're looking for a way to integrate the GI index into your lifestyle, I don't think this book is it -- a cookbook or comprehensive book listing GI values of foods ONLY might be better. If, however, you know nothing about the GI index, this book might prove useful.

"The New Glucose Revolution"
Recently I was diagnosed with prediabetes and attended a diabetes seminar on nutrition. As a longtime member of the health profession I thought I was fairly knowledgeable in the field of nutrition. Wrong again! The information in this book is easily readable and is guaranteed to change your eating habits if you have insulin resistance or any type of blood glucose problems. By following the practical information in this book I have brought my readings back to the normal range. Some of the information in this book was very surprising and unexpected. The authors give practical information that is usable. This is not a typical diet book or one that promotes new herbal or chemical miracles. My nutritionist said the glycemic index is the wave of the future. I belive it.

"ho hum", The book was in great condition, but the content was much less than i had hoped for, and as a guide it had little explanation... would have pass on purchasing this book...

"The New Glucose Revolution:", This is an excellent book. It is not just for diabetics, but for anyone that wants to eat healthy. I HAVE recommended this book to my family & friends.

"not for everyone", This book is not for everyone. It is very technical. I can comprehend almost anything, but there is a lot of thinking that goes into the chemical issues.

"Finally, a non-diet diet that works for vegetarians! ", Let me preface the following by stating that I've never been a "dieter", I've always just tried to eat as healthy as I can. And, as a life-long vegetarian I'd never really been able to participate in most fad-diets anyway (I need my carbs!). But, I'd noticed over the past year that even though I work out pretty consistently, my metabolism was changing and I had dramatic drops in blood sugar that left me feeling tired, light headed and nauseous a lot. I read an article about the low GI diet in one of my fitness mags, and it sounded like something I could actually try as a vegetarian. My husband read the same article and felt it was something he could do without eating "diet" foods.

It really isn't meant as a diet to help you lose a lot of weight quickly, it's much more about changing your overall eating habits and combinations of food so that you regulate your digestive track, which in turn controls hunger, crashes/spikes in blood sugar, increases energy, promotes overall long-term health, etc. It actually started as a method of eating for diabetics, but has since been adopted by non-diabetics.

This particular book is great because it explains the science behind it and also has a bunch of recipes and GI values for most foods. I've found that after doing it for 2 full months, I can pretty much make foods without recipes just by being able to judge whether it's a high or low-GI food. I also bought the vegetarian recipe book, and already have a few favorites in it.

Anyway, I've been doing this for about 2 months and really like it - you're not really depriving yourself of much. The only real adjustment is trying to buy organic when possible so there are no preservatives, and cooking a lot more!

Although it shouldn't really be considered a "weight loss diet", I think just the nature of the changes in my diet has led me to loose some weight. I've never considered myself overweight and have always been a healthy eater and consistent gym-rat. But, over the past 2 months, I've lost about 10 lbs - and that is with the occasional cheating, weekly dinners out, plenty of chocolate and wine, and a 2-week respiratory infection where I didn't work out once!

I would definitely recommend this book - and lifestyle - for anyone who is just trying to be, feel, and look more healthy overall without typical diet constraints.

"Excellent book", This book opened my eyes about watching my glycemic index. I first became aware of it when I used the NutriSystem diet plan and noticed immediately that my tummy fat started disappearing. I realized that I needed to know more about the glycemic quality of foods since there is diabetes in my family history. I highly recommend this book.

"Good Synopsis for Complicated Subject", The glycemic index can be so daunting and overwhelming. This book summarizes the material in a clear manner using laymen's terminology. The explanations of the research and content are clearly understood. If I had to find any "short-coming," I would just ask for a lengthier list of GI foods. Close to 1,700 foods have been tested so far, and only a small fraction of these foods are included in the GI list of foods. Other than that, this books makes the GI index user-friendly!

"Very informative.", I haven't completely finished reading the book, yet. But, it seems to cover every aspect of eating low glycemic index foods. The charts listing the ratings of foods are very helpful, as are the recipes. I've gotten a clearer understanding of how foods breakdown at different rates after you eat them. Can't wait to finish reading.

"Awesome Book", I really enjoyed this book and its new views for a diabetic diet. Still trying some things out but it seems to be working so far. It cleared up a lot of things for me concerning my diet and the traditional low carb diabetic diet.

"Good Information", The book was easy to understand. It also included much useful information. It also had an extensive table of GI values.

"It is terrific and it works", This book reinforced and went several steps further in the background and understanding of the Glycemic Index and its role in proper carbohydrate nutriton and weight loss than the prescriptive diet books. Dr Jennie Brand-Miller and her co authors are to be congratulated as the book is well written and easy to understand. There are examples of what to eat, why to eat it, and how to get to your objectives. Weight loss and weight control are not always easy and this book sets up a program which allows you to do it more easily and certainly more effectively. Yes, it still takes work and commitment, however, and best of all, ... it works.
