Others say...
"NOT real leather - but still best for my needs" Another reviewer commented on how the "leather" apeared fake - and Incipio told him to burn it to see how it smells to prove that it is. Well folks...I did the burn test - it's definitely fake fake fake. For one thing...it kept burning and growing rapidly...real leather takes quite a bit to get it going. Another thing is that it smells more like burning Styrofoam or Legos than it does Leather. I was at a burn test for some airline seats (needed to get FAA approval) and there is NO mistaking the smell of burning leather.
Also, I noticed how thin the material is where it wraps around at the corners...it's really, really hard to get leather to be paper thin and durable.
Unfortunately, despite the shoddy workmanship and deceptive description, it's still the best case out there - at lest for my needs. I was also less than thrilled with the fact that it came in a little bit of plastic wrap - no box, nothing....but my girlfriend just bought one and her's is in a box so there's some progress at least!
Time to go order another one!
"Item as advertised, no surprises here!" I love my Zune. I know everyone is on the iPOD this iPOD that trip, but the Zune is a nice alternative. Love the wireless sharing, the wider screen, and the accessory pack that I got with it as well. No surprises with transaction either; professional service, quick shipping, and excellent packaging. All in all completely satisfied with this purchase. Thank you!
"Decent Flip Case" I have had this about 2 months now. So far, it has met my expectations by providing adequate protection for my new Zune. I really like the magnetic closures. No snaps to break and the magnets hold the cover in place better than I thought they would. The case has openings in the right places to allow for charging, etc. The belt clip works well too. There are a couple of things that I don't really like about it. The most significant problem is that the plastic screen interferes somewhat with the operation of the 'squricle'. If I try to scroll up by sliding my thumb quickly over the pad, the plastic blocks the movement. Sliding down is not a problem, just up. I can hold the plastic down with my other hand and do it, but I shouldn't have to do it. The Zune also slides around a bit, but not too bad and the case is somewhat difficult to open with a headphone jack plugged in. Definitely not show stoppers. Overall a decent case and I would recommend it.
"Materials and workmanship leave much to be desired" Incipio claims the case is made from "premium top-grain leather", but I really have my doubts. Upon fairly casual examination of the case material, it is obvious that the grain is too uniform in its microdimpled appearance to be real leather. It actually appears to be a vinyl fake leather.
Also, the inner "suede" lining is microfiber, not natural suede. A word of warning to those who have a full-body Invisible Shield installed on their Zune: the lining is dyed with cheap dye which rubs off onto the Invisible Shield and stains it permanently!
I'm a bit disappointed that a case made with such questionable materials should cost so much. Let's not even get started with the shoddy attention to detail. The inner window edge on my case isn't even straight, and looks like it was manually (and rather poorly) cut freehand. The stitching isn't straight either.
The saving grace, which is the only reason for my 3 star rating, is that it does a good job of protection, (the clear window scratches fairly easily, though), and the flap shuts well with the hidden magnetic catch.
The only reason I got the Incipio case over other options available when I bought it, is that I need wider headphone jack clearance to enable use of my Westone UM2 in-ear monitors.
Here is Incipio's response to my email to them about the leather claim:
Quote: "The Leather Flip case for the Zune is 100% genuine leather. We stand by our products. All of our cases are manufactured to the highest quality. This case has been treated to be water repellent. If you have any doubts that this case is real leather, we encourage you to cut off a piece of the leather and burn it. (It should smell like a burnt steak) If you decide to burn the leather to prove that it is infact leather , we will send you a replacement."
While this is really good customer service, I don't have the inclination to test the case by burning it! I still am really doubtful about the leather claim - but I could be wrong, of course. None of my other premium leather goods have such a uniform, synthetic look and feel. I am outside the country now, so it's not worth the bother to return the case to Incipio.
I feel Incipio is somewhat deceptive in their marketing because even the inner lining is described as "micro suede", which leads people to assume it is real suede, which it definitely is not. Even zune.net mistakenly calls it "suede" in their product detail on their site.
There are now several better available alternative leather case options, and even Incipio's new aluminum case for the Zune 80 (see zunerama for a review and some good photos) looks like a much better buy.
"INCIPIO CASE" I'M REALLY HAPPY WITH MY NEW CASE! IT IS REALLY GOOD LOOKING AND VERY EASY TO OPEN AND STORE. ALL OF THE OPENINGS BUILT INTO IT ARE PERFECT AND AS FAR AS SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWS SAID ABOUT AN OFFENSIVE ODER WHEN THEY OPENED THE PACKAGING, I DID NOT FIND ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THANKS INCIPIO AND AMAZON.

What our customer's say!
"Classy case for a classy multimedia player!", This case is really good. I did some shopping around before I settled with this one. I bought this at the same time I bought my 120 GB Zune, as I wanted it protected from day one. My son has a Zune also and his case is a silicone sleeve, which I don't really like because it doesn't fit that well and you have to remove the zune from the sleeve if you plug it into a dock, which is kind of hard to do. The Incipio case holds and protects the Zune very well and the flip top is nice because you can fold it all the way over or when you want to close it, it has magnets that hold it closed. So far, I haven't seen any problems with the magnets and the Zune's hard drive. I've seen magnets render all information on a hard drive useless before and these do not bother the Zune for some reason.
This case sells for about $17 on Amazon, which I think is an outstanding value for something that protects your expensive investment! The next comparable case to this one is a $75 italian leather case...in my opinion, this one looks just as good.
Lastly, the Zune is held securely with this case, yet, when you need to take it out, say to put in a docking station, it comes out really easy. All ports are accessible with the case on and I can't think of anything I don't like about it!
"Works", It works, it's durable, and it doesn't seem like it will break, unlike the acryllic zune case. The only downside would probably be that the belt clip doesn't twist like on the acryllic one, but at least I am confident that the clip won't just pop off and let the zune go flying!
"Poor construction, poor customer service", I previously owned an earlier version of the Zune, which was a larger size than the new 80 gb model. I had an Incipio case for that Zune that I was quite happy with. I ordered a new Incipio case for the my smaller 80Gb Zune, but was quite disappointed with the workmanship for this product. Although the leather seems to be of reasonable quality, the assembly and stitching was awful. The plastic cover is sewn on crooked.
I thought it would be easy to get this obviously defective product replaced. But the vendor's policy on returns is that it must be processed within two weeks, which seems like a ridiculously short time period. (I was on vacation and didnt get a chance to look this product over until two weeks after it arrived.) So now I'm stuck with this defective product. Dont make the same mistake I did.
"Best Case for Zune 80", This is probably the best case I've seen for the Zune 80. It's durable, it's nice looking, and you are able to access all your Zune's ports while it's on.
"Protects very well", This item protects the screen of the Zune and is very nice. I only wish the belt clip were a bit longer and could swivel. The case fits perfectly on the Zune; holding it tightly in place, and yes..... I have dropped my Zune. Thank God for the case. I don't know why there are negative reviews here; the USPS delivered mine quickly and my case appears to be leather with suede. For approx. $20.00, it's a great buy.

"only one small problem", This is a great case for the Zune 80, especially considering it's cost compared to MS's. The only problem IMO is that the belt clip doesn't have a hook at the bottom of it and it can slip off the waistband if you are not wearing a belt.
"High quality case for Zune 80", I recently purchased my Zune at Walmart and was very displeased with the lack of selection of cases for this unit. All they had was a $30 case from Belkin that didn't look all that hot. I searched on the Internet and finally found the one I thought was the best one and I was right. One of the cases I read about didn't have a big enough opening for other headphones and one of them didn't have an opening for a port on the bottom. This one is exactly what I wanted. It appears to be high quality leather and I feel much better about carrying my Zune around now. The only problem I have with it is where it was made, China. That is why I won't give it 5 stars. I'm sick of having to buy almost everything I own from China. What ever happened to "MADE IN THE USA"?
"A great case for a Zune 80", A good quality case. Fits my Zune 80 perfectly with all the openings you need to hook up headphones and the charger/sync cable and use the controls. Wasn't sure at first if I was going to like the flip cover but it works well and the magnets that hold it in place are great. The belt clip is plastic but seems pretty sturdy. I've been using it for weeks and so far no complaints.
New comment, After using this case for a couple months the plastic belt clip broke. I knew it would happen sooner or later so no big deal. I emailed Incipio to see if they made metal clips I could buy or just get another plastic one. They responded right away and said they don't make metal clips but if I gave them my address they would send me a free plastic one. 3 days later I got a package with 2 new clips. Can't ask for better service than that! Only problem is, while waiting to get the new clip I got used to keeping the Zune and case in my pocket so now I don't even use the clip... oh well... I have them in case I ever want them.
"Its a case", Offers a moderate amount of protection for the money. I've dropped it more than once and the case protected the device well. On the down side the integrated belt clip does not swivel and easily slides off whatever you are clipping too. I have removed my clip and that was a chore in itself. Good quality leather. I don't like the embossing but it isn't highly noticeable. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but the magnets on the inside of the case that secure the flip top have marred the surface of my Zune.
"Good Case", The case came relatively quickly. A good quality product with nice protection for the screen and access to all the buttons and ports when the case is closed except for the lock switch (but I only need that when the Zune is being put away, and then it's not usually an inconvenience to open the case to get to it). The belt clip works well and is removable so the Zune can be quickly taken off your belt if necessary. Magnets in the case and cover work well to hold it closed but still allow easy opening. Given the current scarcity of good cases for 2nd generation Zunes, I highly recommend this one.
