"Somewhat fun, but is lacking" I bought this mainly for the multiplayer feature and was sorely dissapointed. The main game itself is fun, the wii controllers work great together for force powers and lightsaber, and the story doesn't go against the movies/books (the first time through anyhow). Progression through the single player mode unlocks playable characters in multiplayer. The single player mode is fast, which is its major downfall, as the camera controls are weak. You have to wait a few seconds for the camera to catch up to your direction, and although the wii remote does allow for manual camera movement, its not what i want to be dealing with in the middle of mass combat.
The multiplayer mode had a serious lack of decent characters to choose from, as most have the same stats and a third of them are the character from the main game, in different outfits and slightly different stats. The maps are the worst part as the players are locked in the camera view and can only move a certain distance away from each other before becoming stuck. With the exception of 1 or 2 maps, the majority are cluttered with obsticals that you can get stuck in. Its also dissapointing how easy it is to get out of a force grab, whereas lightning can be deadly if your controller is not held at the exact angle needed to deflect.
Overall, it had a lot of potential, the main game was decent and the controls were great, but the multiplayer (which was supposed to be the main selling point on the wii as the other versions have much better graphics) was done poorly.
"The Stars are Shining in This Game!" My sons love Star Wars! They really enjoy unlocking characters to play with by beating levels throughout the game. Unlike their Lego Star Wars, they are able to use Wii controllers to stab or hit the enemy. In Lego Star Wars, there are only two moves that you can really do. In this Star Wars game, you are able to control the light saber more and do many additional moves. My sons love the Wii-to-tv control of the light saber. They enjoy this realistic aspect of the game.
"Good story. Bad game" As a Star Wars fan, I really wanted to like this game. Sadly, I was disappointed. There's really nothing to it once you get the controls down. It's just a typical hack and slash. I had hoped for something that required a little bit of skill, but ultimately, it's a "button pusher," or in the case of the Wii, wildly swinging around the controller.
The lightsaber battles are pretty weak. If you're hoping for skillful openings and finding and taking advantage of your opponents weakness, it's not here. Press some buttons, swing your controller a bunch, and press more buttons. Close your eyes if you want to. Give the controller to your two year old. It doesn't matter.
The storyline was great - but as you might guess, it didn't live up to the book version. I'd definitely recommend picking up the audio book version read by Jonathan Davis. That was worthwhile. But for the game, I found myself forcing through the terrible game play just to get to the next story cut scene.
One particular disappointment - you go through the game collecting bonus items, some of which unlock characters to play as during the duel mode. The only problem is, you need two players for the duel mode - they don't allow you to play against the computer. A lot of good that does a guy with an uninterested wife and a two year old kid.
It's sad that they didn't give this game much thought. I can't understand why Lucas Arts wouldn't use the Knights of the Old Republic game engine for this story. That would have made the game a million times more playable.
The bottom line is this: if you're a Star Wars fan, it's important that you know that there is worthwhile storyline here that you are going to want to know about - pick up the (audio) book. Once you've gone through the book, this might be worth picking up used if you're interested in seeing the story line played out. But for this Star Wars fan, it was a game that bored me halfway through and has utterly no replay value.
If you haven't played it yet, get Knights of the Old Republic. It received game of the year honors for good reasons. And then wonder why they aren't using this game engine to advance important story line instead of this boring hack and slash game engine.
"Great, but not lasting"
Star wars is really fun game. I mean the whole game is killing stormtroopers with a lightsaber. I mean who wouldn't like that?? I love this game and got it for Christmas. Unfortunately it is super short and I beat it in 6 days playing a total of 5 hours!! The problem with it is that there are barely any missions and when you die you somehow comeback as if nothing happened. Those are basically the major flaws in the game I would reccomend this game to anybody but if you want to save cash then just rent it. It isn't a piece of junk but still isn't something you'll play for a while.

What our customer's say!
"My 7 year old son loves this game. ", My 7 year old loves this game. Had to take it away for a while due to him beginning to get a bit of tendonitis.
"the force unleased!", You play Darth Vader's apprentice and go around beating up everything in sight. I got this game for my husband and he seemed to really enjoy it. The only problem I had with it was the screen was too dark so it was often hard to see where things were but other than that it was pretty good. Also, two-player mode has some issues - it didnt recognize the second remote which was really annoying but synching the remote with the wii during the character select made it recognize it.
"Good Times", I bought this game for my brother and his two boys, ages 7 and 9. They end up embarassing properly everytime we get the chance to join in. They LOVE the game. They already have the game on Xbox, but it only offers it as one player. The Wii offers dual players, different levels from the xbox (which i was relieved to see), and light saber battles. It is good times for us all. I just have to get one of my own now so i can practice when they aren't looking.
"Fun game", We have a lot of fun with the dueling lightsabers. The game itself is fun, however, the longer you play the less game it is and more of a movie. It becomes very repetitive and the opponents don't get much more challenging as you acquire greater skills.
"Forces Unleashed / played with lightsabers", Lots of fun to play with or without the lightsabers. However, my teenage boys loved the lightsaber movements and sounds which gave it a more "realistic" atmosphere. We made it completely thru the game in just a couple of days with periodic playing. It was kind of disappointing to be able to make it thru so fast but then started going back thru and realized what all we missed. Don't rush thru and it will be much more enjoyable! Explore along the way!

"Great Star Wars Game!", This game is very fun! You can use an assortment of force powers, including lightning, push, and repulse. The story is great. I recommend this to Star Wars fans!
"Not necessarily what we've been waiting for, but good for now", Let's sweep the negatives first so they're not ignored: - The camera is ridiculous. You'll wish you could do to the camera what you can do to your opponents. I routinely found myself running away from enemies just to get the camera in an angle where I could see them. With some of the flying troopers, I never was able to see them no matter what I did. There is the ability to lock the camera on boss opponents, but that was only a little less useless. If LucasArts were pioneering the chase camera paradigm with this game, I'd be more forgiving, but they've got plenty of functional games (even from their own library) to use as templates for how this should be done. - Like most LucasArts action games, this one is excessively linear. The only way to make it more linear would be to implement "Wrong Way" warning flashers, but that would be bad in this game because you're probably only running back so you can reset your camera view. I don't personally have any real problem with this but some might. - Part of the "Star Wars" legend has always been that a lightsaber cuts through anything except another lightsaber blade, with notable exceptions being Vader's suit as seen in ESB, the electrified sticks wielded by the droids in RotS, and the limited-application cortosis from the EU and other LA games. This game changes all that. Now lightsabers are stopped by Stormtrooper suits, skimpy leather outfits, and even bare skin. A design goal of this game was to really focus on the Force, but a side effect is that the lightsaber is nearly reduced to a novelty item. - When I first saw Episode 1, one of the things I did like about it was the raw speed at which the combatants moved during lightsaber battles. That aspect got better and better and hit a major high point in Ep3. Conversely, the apprentice, with all his amazing Force powers, moves like a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter. Most of the damage you'll take in this game will be while waiting for him to finish a lightsaber move. - The AI is pathetic. I'm getting just old enough that I like my games a bit on the easy side, but this was a bit much. The enemies don't get smarter as the game progresses, they just get beefier statistics. - I've long felt that LucasArts uses frustration where other game developers use difficulty. For instance, the Rancors aren't particularly tough to beat, but their continual knockdowns needlessly drag the fights out and make them more frustrating than fun or challenging. Some of the AT-ST encounters are like that too. - The repetitiveness in places gets tiring. I was thoroughly sick of fighting Rancors by the end of the Felucia levels. Fighting multiple Rancors across the spread of an entire game isn't bad, but "take six steps, fight Rancor, rinse/repeat 5 times" is bad game design. Add in how needlessly long they are and it can be enough to make you switch off and do something else for a while. - The grunts are plentiful, which would be a whole lot more fun if the lightsaber hurt them. Because they're all but immune to lightsaber damage, you have to use the Force powers on them. In concept, that's great, especially since this game is meant to highlight the Force powers. However, what you'll find is that the individual unit types can be incredibly difficult to beat... until you find that one Force power they just can't defend against. Then you just spam that Force power (and it's almost always one of the one-button or one-motion ones) until you get to the next boss. Putting in any variances might result in you getting overrun and killed by silly little grunts that should be running in fear just from the sound of an activated lightsaber, but instead stand their ground no matter what is happening. - As is mentioned by other reviewers, the biggest threat of actually dying is doing so far from a checkpoint, which at worst usually means a 45-second run. You do lose some Force points, but I wasn't especially good at this game and died more than most people probably do, and I still had more than enough to upgrade my Force powers sufficiently to finish the game with relative ease. I didn't try, but I imagine you could use the "return to Rogue Shadow" command to get fully respawned enemies on a level and rack up all the Force points you need. - Having the + button bring up the menu caused me troubles. It was flat-out horrible when I used it with the Glow Saber unless I just consigned myself to not using the A button, but I still had a few troubles when I put the remote back into the jacket.
As formidable as the above list may seem, it doesn't stop this game from being a ton of fun to play, especially on the Wii. Let's look at the reasons I rated it well: - I'd imagine I'm not the only person who's waited a long time for the ability to use something besides a joystick or a mouse to wield a lightsaber. This game really gets you into that. I did note that I don't like how weak the lightsaber is, but I don't want to be overly critical of that because this isn't a Wii-specific title. They could easily have made the Wii remote's uniqueness as near meaningless as they did in Lego Star Wars. LA put forth a good effort to make the Wii remote motions translate directly into saber moves without requiring the player to be a swordsman, and they worked in the nunchuk to control Force powers in a meaningful fashion. That they did so in a title not specific to the Wii is a bonus to us as the players. I'd still like to see something like Jedi Academy released specifically for the Wii, but this is good for now. - Overall control of the character is pretty fluid and intuitive. Getting the camera screwed around means you might have to perform your moves in an uncomfortable direction, but as I said before, I'm not especially good at this game and I only had trouble with this a few times. - I always place gameplay above graphics, but this one is extremely visually appealing as well. - This isn't my favorite storyline of all the LA games I've ever played, and certainly not among all games I've ever played. However, it's not to be forgotten that this story is dealing directly with major characters in the Star Wars universe and in the middle of an established timeline, not before or after. I think they did a great job working within their constraints of not violating the storylines of any of the movies (at least not in the story as I uncovered it). - The multiple storylines and the unlocking of the harder mode (which I haven't tried yet but I'm holding on to a tiny glimmer of hope that it makes the enemies smarter, not just beefier), as well as the Wii-specific duel mode give this game a good boost in the replayable department.
A comment I'd like to make regarding the saves as read from other comments: It's true that the automatic saves only work if you continue immediately but send you back to the beginning of the level if you reset your Wii. However, if you manually save, you'll pick up right where you left off.
"My Review", Alright, I'm going to get right to it. This game is really fun, but the story line is one of the worst I've seen. In the first part, you're playing as Darth Vader taking over Kashyyyk. You go around, learning about how to use Force powers and all that fun stuff. Then you fight a rogue Jedi, blah, blah, blah. Then you get into the cutscenes. Then you find yourself smack dab in the middle of a battle over Nar Shaddaa, or however you spell it. After a little bit you're on Raxus Prime fighting wave after wave of never ending droids. The end of the game is pretty fun when you're blasting through hundreds of stormtroopers on the Death Star. The bad part is that these troopers are harder to take down than the others in the game where you can just use a single Force Push to beat. Then you have to save Princess Leia, Bail Organa, Master Rahm Kota, and some other senator from the clutches of the Emperor and Vader. Vader is pretty tough. Just try to keep close to him and blindly hit him with your lightsaber. Then you proceed to the Emperor who takes a long time to beat since his health only goes down like a millimeter when you hit him. He's actually really easy. Just watch out for his Lightning. Now the ending. Blech! The ending! You let all your friends go and escape in the Rogue Shadow, while you're blocking the Emperor from barbecuing them. Then you die. Yes, you read right. YOU DIE! Come ON! We don't want to see you die! We want to see you throw the Emperor away, escape in your ship, and get together with Juno Eclipse!!! In my opinion, Dr. Zhivago has a happier ending than this.
Pros:
Very fun.
Good variety of Force moves.
Cons:
Horrible story line.
Not the best cutscene graphics.
A little too many Force moves to remember.
P.S. I played this on the Wii, so the ending might be different on other systems.
"Great Star Wars fun for the Wii", Star Wars The Force Unleashed for the Wii is an awesome experience heightened by the fact that you control the light saber action with the wii-mote. In addition to the Wii version, I also have the PS3 version, but are they the same? As a matter of fact they're not.Yes the story is the same, however the Wii has some caveats that the Xbox360/PS3 does not yet have (duel mode,Jedi Temple level(just released as dlc on PS3/Xbox360) ). The graphics are good for the Wii,however are not as impressive compared to the PS3/Xbox360 verions. The bottom line is this game is fun.I actually find the controls on the Wii to be more responsive than on the other consoles. The only complaint I have is that the camera is more difficult to control for this version.Otherwise, it is an AWESOME GAME!!! Great Story too!!
"Disappointing...", I don't think this game is worth buying since you literally can finish this game in one day. It took me about 5-6 hours to finish it. You knock people around, throw things around, jump and do tricks. After awhile, it gets boring and non-challenging at all. You are better off renting it than owning it, unless you are a huge Star Wars fan and want to add this game to your collection.
