"SILLY HARMLESS FUN! 2 1/2 STARS!" 'Balls Of Fury' isn't a great film, but it has some very funny moments. Silly and harmless with some good comedic performances by Walken, Lopez and Co. It's a short film that's pretty easy to sit through, if your in the mood for this sort of thing. Lots of jokes about.......balls! If ya get my drift. ;-b
"I should feel fury for watching it" Balls of Fury wasn't really funny to me. It TRIED to be funny, but failed. It's about a man who gets involved in a tradition where it's believed ping pong is the most important thing in the world, and as a result, the man goes through tournaments until he meets the very best player.
Unfortunately, the story is WAY too goofy for its own good to really feel any positive vibes from the tournament as the man kept winning. In other words, you won't really care about the guy as he keeps winning because the entire story is one extremely goofy segment straight into another, and all the while NONE of it is even remotely funny. It's just a greatly exaggerated story that does nothing to keep me interested. Come on, if a ping pong player loses, he has to DIE by having darts shot in his neck? Or how about the scene involving the supposed "dragon master" of ping pong, and it turned out to be a little schoolgirl?
None of that stuff works for me I'm afraid. And nothing really happens with the ping pong aspect of the storyline. At least, not as much as it *should* be focused on ping pong.
It's best to skip this one.
"Solid Comedy, if you are in the mood" Reading the reviews I can understand why this movie can be funny. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I could imagine someone not liking it if their funny bone wasnt working that day.
I would say if you liked these movies - Dumb and Dumber, Reno 911, Dodgeball - then this movie will be very funny to you.
"if you've seen the previews, you've seen the movie" We bought this, having seen the previews and finding them irresistible. Unfortunately, if you've seen the preview (and if not, check it out on YouTube), you've seen the entire movie, or at least the good parts.
Randy Daytona (Dan Fogler) is a ping pong has-been, reduced to doing a variety act, until he's approached by FBI agent Rodriguez (George Lopez) to help take down Feng (Christopher Walken), the man responsible for his father's death.
To do that, Randy needs to be invited to Feng's extreme ping pong tournament, but he hasn't competed since his Olympic humiliation 18 years ago, so they hire blind ping pong master Wong (James Hong) and his niece (Maggie Q) to get him up to speed.
I didn't expect a whole lot from this, and that's pretty much what I got. The premise is tissue-thin, and the film (or maybe it was just me) seemed to be holding its breath until Christopher Walken showed up, halfway through the movie, which is when it really started.
Christopher Walken was brilliant, as usual, and James Hong is always enjoyable. George Lopez was amusing but underutilized, and Maggie Q was pretty much wasted as eye candy. Dan Fogler fit the character well, and was sympathetic and entertaining, and Diedrich Bader was hilarious as a male courtesan. It just felt like with a bit more to the script, it could have been better than it was.
"Failure Of Comedy" I don;t even want to explain what this is about, it's just not worth me saying anything more then you should avoid having to sit through this movie. It's jokes are lame, it's humor is dull and it's plot is a seen-it-before 100 times scenario.
The pacing is too fast, the ... euhh, sigh... take my word on it, avoid it.

What our customer's say!
"Balls of fury", This movie is so stupid it's funny. these types of movies are awesome. i love slap happy stupid humor films. this movie will make you laugh untile you cry. it a pretty good film.
"Insipid time waster", This movie contains one fantastically hilarious joke, a couple of chuckles, and a slew of corny sight gags and banal "wackiness". However, the humor wasn't so dreadful that I was disgusted, and I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't sink to anywhere near the depths of vulgarity that most films of this ilk plumb, so I give it 2 stars.
"Good for a dumb movie", This has to be, quite possibly, the dumbest movie I have seen in a very, very long time.
However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. I don't think there was a single moment in this film that purposely wanted any smidgen of intelligence whatsoever.
And, heck, the reason I went to see this movie was because I thought it looked funny. And, guess what? I laughed. I don't know if this will go into the treasury of greatest stupid movies ever made, but it did leave me with a smile on my face.
I think it was because it was ping-pong. Yes, I like a good game of ping-pong as much as the next person, but come on. It's ping-pong. Just try telling that to these characters. The fact that anyone could take so slight a game so seriously cracked me up.
And that's where this movie works.
It's pointless, silly, and down-right brain cell killing. But I found myself forgiving everyone because they were so good-hearted in waltzing around with their idiotic humor.
No, it will probably not be nominated for Best Picture. But as for dumb comedy goes, this nicely held its own.
"Campy, cheesy, lame and ridiculously funny in parts...", While it's certainly not high cinema, it did have its share of gut-busting laughs... I liked a lot of the casting.
I'll grant you, a lot of the humor was sophomoric, or crude, or offered deadpan (which was funny in its own right in a few instances), and there were some slow, boring and/or predicatble stretches. But on the whole I generally enjoyed it (since I knew about what to expect). If Amazon did half points, I'd give it 3.5 stars. I definitely liked it more than Beerfest, which is rather similar but with drinking games instead of ping pong... I thought this one was carried off better and considerably funnier.
""Enter the Dragon" with ping pong", "Balls of Fury" is a competent and amusing movie. As the previous reviewer put it, it's silly fun. It rarely provokes anything more than amusement - this is not a belly-laugh kind of comedy. But "Balls of Fury" provides laughs for 90 minutes and then fades to a bizarre music video that may be the best part of the film, and that's enough for me. Thomas Lennon and Diedrich Bader steal every scene they're in, with Lennon's East German ping-pong ubermensch being perhaps the best character in the film.
"Balls of Fury" is worth a rent if you're in the mood for a comedy and you've seen the other comedies on the shelf already. You'll probably forget you ever saw it two weeks later, but at least you'll enjoy it while you're watching it.

"mildly amusing at best", **1/2
The humor is broad and predictably predictable in "Balls of Fury," a low-grade, though admittedly good-natured, sports farce that elicits roughly one laugh for every five attempts at being funny (not a bad ratio as movie comedies go these days, but not really high enough to make the film worth seeing). The plot, which is barely worth detailing here, involves a has-been table tennis champion (Dan Fogler) hired by the F.B.I. to infiltrate a ping pong tournament (a literal "death match") being hosted by a notorious underworld kingpin (played to the hilt by the one and only Christopher Walken). George Lopez, James Hong, and Diedrich Bader ("The Drew Carey Show") round out the likable cast.
Despite a handful of laugh-out-loud moments and an air of genuine sweetness, there's no compelling reason to recommend "Balls of Fury," aside from Walken`s campy performance. My advice, therefore, would be to skip "Balls of Fury" altogether and re-watch "Airplane" or "Naked Gun" instead.
"So Bad, It's Good", This is one of those guilty pleasure movies; it's really bad, but its degree of putridness is so severe that it's impossible to turn away from. Whether it's the bad acting, stupid dialogue, nut-knocking jokes, or sexual/racial/social stereotypes that offend your sense and sensibilities, this movie has it all! I recommend lowering your expectations and simply enjoying campy acting by Christopher Walken and the rest of the cast.
So bad, it's good! But not good enough to say it's really good. It's not.
"One word: LAME", I liked dodgeball and assumed this movie would be similar. Which it was, except for the funny. It didn't have it. I want the last hour and a half of my life back.
"And Gold Medal Goes to Christopher Walken: Otherwise, Nothing Special", Though "Balls of Fury" is not a total disaster as some critics say, it is definitely a pretty disappointing entry after watching recent comedies like "Dodgeball" and "Blades of Glory." In short, despite the film's interesting cast and some funny moments, there are not enough laughs here to raise the film to the same level of goofiness of Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell films.
The film is about a former table tennis phenomenon Randy Daytona (Dan Fogler) who becomes an undercover agent and joins in the underground ping-pong tournament. Of course this story is a parody of "Enter the Dragon" and that is not a bad idea, but the entire film looks like a 15-minute sketch (like the one in "The Kentucky Fried Movie" or any TV show) stretched to 90-minute feature film.
It is a little surprising that "Balls of Fury" contains not much low-brow humor. That is good, but the film's jokes are not strong enough, repeating some materials (such as blunders of the blind ping-pong master played by James Hong). The actors including Dan Fogler are not to blame, but the film's characters or gags lack surprise or imagination. The scenes of ping-pong match are decent, but they need more pizzazz or energy to get us involved.
Still "Balls of Fury" has two merits that deserve special mention. One is Christopher Walken, who always shines in whatever films he is in. He plays "Feng," sort of the mastermind of crime syndicate, always dressed in purple Chinese costume, obsessed with anything about ping-pong. His cartoonish baddie has the same delightful quality as the villains of Roger Moore's 007 films (well, Walken did it once), which everyone finds enjoyable, taking nothing about him seriously. Though her scenes are not very long, Maggie Q is also great, gorgeous and sexy, with brief martial arts action scenes. Two stars for them.
"A Surprise!", Having not seen this movie before, I randomly bought it just because I wanted to see it, and it was a combo HD DVD and Standard DVD. When I watched it with my boyfriend, wow! It was totally not what we had expected. The movie was funny. We were getting a lot of laughs. The HD quality was great. There was no graininess at all during the entire movie. Not what we were expecting, so I was very happy with that.
