"Adequate"
This is an adequate product for adapting Office to the Mac operating system. If you are use to operating Office in Windows, it can be frustrating not finding the features in the same place on the Mac. Overall, I am happy with the functionality.

"Mac Office is AWESOME!"
I love Microsoft Office for Mac. It's even better than using it on a PC. It was very easy to install and very easy to use.

"Just What i needed"
I'm not an expert to compare with old versions but it is just what i need

"Word dosn't like the word gentlemen"
Maybe its me but when I type the word gentlemen, it changes to Gentlemengentlemen and locks-up Word.I have to do a Forced Quit to get out of it. I have tried this many times with the same result. If you are well through your document and you type gentlemen(?) without saving previously, you are in for a lot of frustration. I don't know why this happens. Computers!!!!!!!!! Other than this oddity I like the programme, haven't used it much to get totally familiar with it but it does what I need.

"Office 2008 for Mac"
So far, I really like this product. I heard some iffy things about it before I ordered it. But it hasn't done me wrong yet! I use mainly "Word" for word processing - Resume work, cover letters, newsletters, calendars (for my classroom), etc. And so far it's been WAY easier than what I was using before -- Pages. I've used both this, and Office on Vista, and to me this is much easier. Vista's office is very difficult to find what you need and the last time I tried to use it - it kept printing my documents backwards. So, I much prefer Office for Mac!!

What our customer's say!

"Easy to Use, Expansive Product Suite", Office 2008 is much what it is advertised to be: it is fast, flashy, and overflowing with ways to get your work done. From installation (which is more like a windows installation) you can pick and choose which products to install - I don't use Entourage, so this review ignores that product - it was very simple to exclude from the installation.
It's hard to escape MS Office these days, and though Apple Pages can save documents in Office readable formats it is a process at every save that you must go through - this isn't a Pages review, but I have used the Apple productivity suites, and I must say I prefer Office 2008 and not just for compatibility issues.
Don't be fooled, there are some problems with Office 2008 - the graphics are very nice and there are numerous views to organize and create Word documents in - the cost is that these graphics do not always work correctly. Problems occur especially when multiple windows are open, and Office reacts strangely to OSX Spaces - the main Word window will shift spaces when cycling through programs, and the toolbox has a strange way of dispersing itself across the Spaces - press f8 to bring up all open spaces and you can quickly locate the fragments of the toolbox and by dragging them, reassemble it - a simple fix that can become time consuming (say if you like using the internet and iTunes in different spaces) and it's something that shouldn't have to be fixed in the first place. In Word the cursor has a way of disappearing after switching Spaces and if it becomes visible again, well lucky you.
Despite these flaws there have been some significant improvements. These are of course similar to those witnessed in Office 2007 for PCs - bright graphics which replicate the menus of yesterday for doing such things as changing the style of your paper, adding word art, charts or virtually anything else you may want to do. These are again replicated in the toolbox - giving users at least three ways of accomplishing the same tasks (menus remain largely intact).
These changes make for a more customizable workspace, and much quicker access to various different functions of Office 2008's various programs. Things that even an experienced user may have once passed over are obvious and easily inserted quickly and without fuss (hyperlinks in Power Point are extremely easy, and provide thumbnails of slides for easily linking slides together). It doesn't just look good, it truly is useful - what really is simply a cosmetic change, is surprisingly helpful.

So - in conclusion Office 2008 works faster, is reliable (never had a crash, always opened documents, works great with other versions of the programs - older versions still open and edit 2008 saved documents), is visually appealing and quickly provides its entire expansive list of features for users. Unfortunately it is completely ignorant of Spaces, and as such may become more of a headache than a blessing for anyone that uses spaces (pretty much at all - changing spaces leads to erratic behavior - writing this review I changed a song in iTunes and literally lost the Word window!).
I would recommend buying Office 2008 - it has a lot of features, it is easy to use and can create some very nice looking documents and presentations. If the spaces get annoying, and you don't use or need all of the features then try Apple's Pages and Front Page - it has a lot to offer, but not quite as many features.

"Not a good dollar value.", The primary reason a lot of people buy Office is simply to be compatible with other Office users, but this version _isn't_ very compatible. MS omitted VBA from all the 2008 Mac editions, and the home edition further lacks Exchange Server support (making Entourage pretty much pointless), and the data analysis pack for Excel.

Backward compatibility is not terrific either, and no I'm not talking about the switch to OOXML file formats. I have a number of "legacy" files and templates that were originally created with Office 2000 and XP on Windows. They open fine in Office:mac 2004 and Office 2003 for Windows. The even open with iWork and OpenOffice. They do _not_ open properly with Office 2008 or 2007. (This won't be a surprise to longtime Office users. Swapping files between old and new versions has never been completely painless.)

So with compatibility with other Office users all but removed from the equation, it seems to me there's little reason not to use one of the cheaper, or even free, alternatives to Office. Apple's own iWork is really slick, and costs about half what the Office home edition does. NeoOffice and OpenOffice will keep even power users happy, and they're _free_. By comparison, MS Office is sluggish in operation, and doesn't bring enough to the table to justify its high price.

"Excel Does not work", Word and Powerpoint seem to work OK, but Excel is so slow as to be worthless.
I have a brand new Mac Air, and I did get all the updates, and I tried resetting file preferences.
I have Parallels, so I will be installing Office 2000 on the Windows side of things so I can use Excel.

"Incompatible with Spaces", I would love to be able to stop using MS Office. Unfortunately, collaboration at work requires that I use Word 2008. Word 2008 is completely incompatible with one of the features of OS 10.5 that I use the most frequently, Spaces. It's been over 6 months since Office 2008 was released, and Microsoft hasn't fixed this bug. Ridiculous.

"great!", I recently bought a MacBook after using a PC all my life practically. I downloaded the free trial of iWork 08 and tried using Pages (the Apple version of Word) for school, but found that it was not as good as Word for writing papers. After becoming frustrated with Pages, I bought Microsoft Office for Mac and have been very happy with my purchase. It is set up a little different that Office for PCs, but is much easier to get used to than Pages, considering I am not used to using a Mac. iWork does have a nice version of Excel that has a lot of useful templates, but since I do not really use them, I am okay with sticking with Excel. I highly recommend Office for Mac if you are used to PCs.

"An "upgrade" in Microsoft's grand tradition", So far, I have only used Excel:

1. As usual with a new version of Office, the interface involves more, not fewer, mouse clicks to accomplish old tasks. MS seems to think we all love digging through as many levels of interface as possible to accomplish a task.

2. I haven't seen performance this slow in Excel in 15 years. (Click. Beach ball. Click. Beach ball. Cut. Beach ball. Paste. Beach ball. Drag. Beach ball.) It even gives warnings that you may have to wait awhile before your "complex" chart will appear on screen. Go get a cup of coffee, and your chart might be ready when you get back. BTW, I'm not using an ancient machine: OS 10.4.11, 2.16 GHz Core 2 duo, 2 Gig RAM. I don't recall ever doing anything in the 2004 version that required more than a 2 second wait.

3. All of the statistical analysis tools appear to have been removed. (Great! More waiting and fewer features!)

I can't wait to try Word and PowerPoint!

"Office 2008 is junk and arip-off", This piece of...um...software is awful. Buggy and slow even after two patches. I do like the way it handles track changes, moving them to the right so the text reads smoothly with out embedded changes. But we're trying to use this thing to finish up a book, and we've spent more time trying to make it work and fix problems it's created than writing! We're seriously thinking of including a comment in the acknowledgments.

They really need a Files menu selection titled 'Save As Corrupt' instead of just 'Save As.' It'd be much more accurate.

Save yourself time and aggravation and use something else.

"Unbelievably bad performance.", I upgraded to 2008 from an Ancient version of Word on my dual-G5 2Ghz. I have SP1.

I have a simple six column spreadsheet of data I've been maintaining for years now with 750 lines of data. I cut-n-paste the final line to the next line, modify the data, change the source for a graph, and I'm done with the day's data collection. On the Old Version, loading the spreadsheet took about a second, copying and pasting was instantaneous, and adjusting the data source took maybe one to two seconds.

On this new version, loading takes five seconds, Copying a row takes 75 SECONDS, Pasting 5 seconds, and 15 seconds to adjust the graph data source.

Worst upgrade ever. I'm going back to 2004.

"Users of Dreamweaver BEWARE of Microsoft Office 2008", You cannot paste into design mode in Adobe Dreamweaver from Microsoft Word 2008, (which means that you have to paste into code mode and recode everything from scratch). I tried everything I could think of then finally went on some forums where I found that Microsoft says it is Adobe's problem and has no plans to fix the bug. (Yet, 2004 works fine).

I like to make my tables in word (from excel docs) then paste into Dreamweaver (then take out the garbage code using find and replace). This means hours of work that wasn't necessary in word 2004 or prior.

"Very Poor Release with Serious Compatibility Issues", This new office release is seriously flawed. Despite weekly "critical" upgrades from Microsoft, most applications still crash constantly. As an example, one of my excel sheets crashes every time I want to update a chart with new data. Also Macros programming has been disabled.

Beware of this version. I'm sure it will get better with the constant upgrades, but at this stage it is still flawed, even for the basic stuff.
