"I loved this movie!", I've never read the book, so I've no idea how it compares. But this movie positively dazzled me. I found myself sitting here on the edge of my seat biting my nails when it was a tight spot and clapping my hands when I was delighted with how something turned out. "among the stars", Let me start by stating that if you watch Stardust the movie hoping that it achieves the aura of Stardust the book, you will be disappointed. That, however, is the fate of most book into movie productions. Stardust the book was magical because it is made of words. Stardust the movie is made of images and it is unrealistic to hope that it could capture the essence of the written version.

That said, Stardust the movie has its moments. Clare Danes makes a luminous star, Charlie Cox a credulous young hero, and deNiro has a great time camping it up in his role as secretly gay pirate captain. Michelle Pfeiffer is less successful as the witch; either of her two crone sisters could have done better. There are more than a few problems with the story line, which, especially at the start, jumps about in a confusing manner.

It is in its individual scenes that this movie shines. Seeing a dying prince bleed blue blood. Watching the 6 dead brothers in their ghostly throng, bearing their slashed throats and axes in the head. The Capt. Hook - style sequences with the air ship. The fairy tale backgrounds and the gypsy wagon. The special effects, which, while not spectacular, do their job. The developing love story. It isn't perfect, but Stardust is good entertainment, fun to lose oneself in on a rainy evening. If you enjoy the movie, you owe it to yourself to read the book. It's even better.

"Wonderful Film Done By the Book", Neil Gaiman is a wonderful fantasy writer. Too often when movies are made from great novels they leave you feeling unsatisfied, or you are unable to fully grasp the plot b/c you haven't read the book. This movie, however, is one of the greatest film adaptations of a book that I have ever seen. Even the humor of Gaiman came through. (there were many times that I laughed out loud) My wife loved it, and she's not much into fantasy movies. I would suggest reading the book first, b/c you shouldn't deny yourself a wonderful experience. Hopefully movies like this will inspire those watching to pick up other novels by Gaiman as well

"Absolutely brilliant!", Like one reviewer said, "Stardust settles over the viewer like a twinkly cloak." It is such a lovely film and completely boggles me that it didn't do well at the box office. Well, I'm hoping the DVD remedies that because that's how I came upon it and I absolutely loved it! Many reviewers have covered the story and it is enchanting! The world(s) within the story are so wonderfully fantastical and are brought vividly to life through the artistry of the cast, crew and designers. Really seamless effects that added to the story, didn't take away from it. Truly a feast for the eyes, ears, heart and soul. It had it all! Romance, adventure, excitement, humor. To have a film take you from laughter to heart-pounding excitment to tears is a rare feat indeed! I absolutely loved this "star" of a film and would consider it a new favorite in my DVD library.

"Awesome movie!", Bought this movie at Blockbuster as part of their previewed movies for sale - totally worth it. Great cast, great story, great script. Yvainne (the fallen star) is awesome. First of all, glad to see Claire Daines in something again 'cause I haven't seen her in a while. But when you first see her, knowing she's a fallen star, you expect her to be all sweet and chipper - but she's really not. She's much more real than that. Love the comedy from the three witch sisters and the entrail reading and everything. Really good movie with a good fairy tale ending - but a unique one.

"Enjoyable ", There is much to enjoy in the movie version of Stardust, both for those who've read Neil Gaiman's novel and those who haven't. I can understand why some fans of the novel are upset by the movie adaptation. A movie adaption can never be completely faithful to its literary source but the difference in endings is striking. The denouement in the book is quiet, surprisingly so. The climax of the movie revolves around a spectacular fight that has no parallel in the book. That said, however, I found the overall spirit of the movie faithful to the book. Tristran and Yvaine (played beautifully by Charlie Cox and Claire Danes) are much as I imagined them, as is the general atmosphere.

"Stardust", Stardust is one of the best movies we've seen in awhile, so we had to have it for our own meager collection!
