"Loved it!!!"
I just got my CD the other day and I have to say it's great! If you liked the music from the movie, buy it, if not, then don't buy it! If you don't like it because it sounds too much like a soundtrack from another movie, then let me ask you this: music from "Superman" sounds very similar to "Star Wars", does that make one sound worse than the other because they are from different movies? For me, I love this because the music puts me in the mood of the movie. And their rendition of "Ava Maria" is wonderful!

"To call it "mediocre" would be generous..."
There's nothing "fresh", "unique", or "original" about this score - just a really lazy, unremarkable MediaVentures/Eric Serra hybrid clone.

"Great and Fresh. More good work from Zanelli"
This was a real surprise. I expected a rehash of the game music, but it was utterly original. The intense moments were well driven, and there's even a great love theme!

Anyone who thinks this is lifted from Bourne is quite misguided. They should take a listen to Elfman's "Men In Black" and then reevaluate Mr. Powell's originality.

I can't wait to see what this up and coming composer releases next! His Emmy was well deserved, and from the sound of this work it was only the first of many awards.

Also, check out Zanelli's Disturbia.

"Inspired by "Bourne""
Contrary to the first post, these tracks are not adapted from the Hitman video game scores although the song "Ave Maria" was also used in Hitman 4: Blood Money. Instead, the film's score is heavily inspired by John Powell's "Bourne" music.

"Geoff Zanelli Does A Great Job"
I've been a big Hitman fan for years. I've played the games, have the scores by Jesper Kyd and couldn't wait to see the film. I was even more excited to hear that one of my favorite composers Geoff Zanelli was scoring the film. I was pretty disappointed in the film itself but the score was really well done. Most of the tracks are taken from the game scores and turned into orchestral tracks but it's very well done and pleasing to listen to. I would not recommended this score to just anyone, but if you like Geoff Zanelli's music and are a fan of the Hitman legacy you wont be disapointed.

"Muy comun solo para incondicionales del genero soundtrack", Suena muy comun a soundtracks de acción, lo mejor las dos versiones de "Ava Maria"

"You don't have to be original to be good!", One reviewer believes Zanelli's 'Hitman' is just a Media Ventures clone, and that it's totally unoriginal and lazy. Now, considering that review only contains one sentence, I'm tempted to tell the reviewer "look who's talking".

The score to Hitman contains everything you would expect from an action film - The boombastic moments of action, to the quieter moments of emotion, and everything in-between. They're all here in their obligatory form. But each one is composed and portrayed very well.

The track "Istanbul" is probably my favourite. It's a beautiful soft piece containing a lovely cue which is morphed, slowed and quickened elsewhere on other tracks. In the film it's mainly used alongside the female lead and ofcourse as the Instanbul them. And although I can hear bits of Graeme Revell's "Love Theme" from The Saint in it, it doesn't make the track any less good. And sure the Hitman action theme (first heard on track 3 "The Belicoff Assassination") sounds like part of the cue used at the start of The Bourne Identity, but it's still a good theme. And a theme that Zanelli uses well throughout the score as he twists and turns it as he sees fit in order to suit what's happening in the movie.

My point is, if you listen hard enough to any supposedly original score, you can hear the similarities it may have to others. In fact there's a cue in Hitman that's an even bigger rip-off than Bourne - There's a section of track 9 ("Table") which follows the same crescendo-like path as a tune called "This Ridiculous Chin", which is a track from John Powell's 'Face/Off'. Sure, one track came before the other, but it doesn't make the latter any less good. I can even hear John William's 'Jaws' theme in there somewhere too.

So, if you listen hard enough to Zanelli's 'Hitman', you'll find similarities that are beyond just Bourne. However, you could also find how effortlessly Zanelli is able to layer totally opposite cues on top of each other to create the desired effect. For instance, there's a section in the movie where Hitman is explaining to the woman about his name. And towards the end of the track called "My Name is 47" which accompanies the scene, Zanelli takes the main Hitman theme (yes, the one that sounds like it's from Bourne) and slows it right down to place it on top of the beautiful "Instanbul" theme I mentioned earlier. It works incredibly well, and is made even more poignant because the combination of the 2 themes is an exact reflection of the scene in the movie since it involves both those 2 characters. It's a formulaic method of composing, but not many are able to pull it off so well.

One of the reviewers said that there is a consistent quality to Hitman. And that's a good statement. Because whilst there isn't anything absolutely amazing about the score, I find that there's also absolutely nothing wrong with it either.

We all know what kind of music we like. And every reviewer here is entitled to their opinion. But the couple of negative statements attributed to Zanelli's 'Hitman' cannot be taken seriously if they're not accompanied by explanations. So all the above is simply MY opinion, and I hope I've explained myself well enough to anyone who is thinking of purchasing this score.

"Geoff Zanelli finds the right mixture for a smooth score", Overall this score works for this movie and you can listen to it later when you want to recapture the moments. If you love scores and are a collector of them, like myself, it's definately worth picking up. The average soundtrack listener probably won't care much for this score because it's original and not trendy. I was a huge fan of the games and was expecting, like another reviewer, that it would be remodeled music from the game but Geoff Zanelli composed something original and very listenable. I loved the film and afterwards I had to get this score. Not the greatest score in the world, but it's definately not disappointing. This is my first of Geoff Zanelli's scores, I like the potential I hear and the stuff he's already done. More than likely I'll be buying more from this up and coming composer.

To the "Inspired by Bourne" reviewer:
Obviously you don't know soundtrack scores very well, or this is your freshman year. I'll agree there are a few moments similar to Bourne but I would say that The Rock (Harry Gregson Williams, Hans Zimmer and Nick Glennie Smith), Con Air (Mark Mancina and Trevor Rabin), Speed (Mark Mancina) and Goldeneye (Eric Serra) scores are more comparable to Hitman than John Powell's Bourne series. With the heaviest influence coming from Mark Mancina. At the least, it's not a "replica" or "rip-off" like I read in one review, it's a totally new and refreshing take on scores. By the way, I own all of the fore-mentioned scores. That's just my opinion, it's what I thought the first time I heard the score and it still is.

"Good soundtrack, and I know who Geoff Zanelli is.", I really liked this soundtrack. I found it very suspenseful and exciting. But it is "Ave" not "Ava".

Also, if you do your homework and read about who Geoff Zanelli is, then you will discover that Mr. Zanelli and John Powell (Bourne series) worked together in the early days of their film composing, and are good friends. If you think that thus sounds a lot like the Bourne soundtracks, its probably because of the two composers early friendship.

"Great Soundtrack!", Even if you didn't like the movie, there's a lot to like in the soundtrack. I love to listen to instrumental soundtracks while I write, and the Hitman Soundtrack is now among my favorites (along with the soundtracks from Gladiator, X-Men, The Bourne Identity, and the LOTR).

While I happened to like the movie (because of the character more than anything else), those who didn't should still give the soundtrack a chance. The songs have a consistent quality to them and make great background music.
