"Good Overall, With A Few Annoying Issues"
I am a long time TurboTax user, and Premier this year shows progress from previous years in most areas. Importing W-2 and some investment data is a breeze, although several mutual fund entries had to be made manually. I found that switching between the interview and forms was less than optimum this year: the forms menu was touchy and hard to navigate accurately, and annoyingly, was not complete.

One huge oversight is that form 1040-V, which anyone who owes tax needs (although you can technically file without it), is apparently missing in action. It did not print with my return, and when I went to forms it is not even in the list, making a trip to the IRS web site necessary to manually find, print, and fill out the form. Strangely, the corresponding form for my state taxes did print with my return and was accurate. TurboTax also had an issue with my state taxes when it wouldn't accept an entry I made (correctly) from a 1099-R. It insisted a certain number (a state tax ID number) had to be seven digits long, yet the number (which the payer, Fidelity Investments, confirmed) was nine digits long on the 1099-R. TurboTax would not allow me to overwrite the field, and I had to write a cover letter to file along with my state taxes (which necessitated paper filing). The program also lacks a decent search function. I had a complex issue involving a payment taken as stock which I had to research completely on my own (the J. K. Lasser book is still a great tool to have on hand). I also find that for both the 2006 and 2007 tax years TurboTax is inflexible about keeping your files in anything but PDF format, which I consider to be a major inconvenience.

Overall I still find TurboTax the best self-preparation tool on the market, but it is not without its frustrations. I recommend the program, but caution that if you have complex returns, TurboTax is not a perfect tool and has some subtle flaws that pester the user.

"Turbo Tax Premier"
I usually buy the deluxe version of Turbo tax but this year, I decided to buy the premier version because I had more investment sells. I didn't find the premier version much better than the deluxe version so to me, it was a waste of the extra money.

"twice burned"
My accountant died and everyone said I could do my own taxes. Last year, it worked but I couldn't print a copy for my files. This year, the on-line update isn't working and gives me a server error. It is the only thing I can't do on my high speed cable modem, so it must mean their server. They sell and incomplete product and do not support the updates (there is no human support). Next year I'll find a younger accountant.

"TurboTax Premier Federal & State 2007"
Product was easy to use and provided more than sufficient information and suggestions as to what type deductions were available. In many cases suggested entries were provided that I had not previously considered. Definitely a "must have" product for the tax season.

"The 2007 Lemon!!!"
I think that after five years, I can call myself a long-time user of Turbo Tax Premier, and until now, I have loved it. The 2007 Premier edition, however, was so full of unremovable glitches that I had to start a completely new return (The first version gave me a gratuitous 7000 tax credit, which I did not enter, and it had the Feds awarding me over $500 and the State, $3500 (I should live so long!). It's a good thing that I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday, or I might have filed the return, and the Feds would be soon awarding me something else!!!

My second effort came out right (I hope!). Why does Turbo Tax have to monkey with their software every year? Last year, it was not broken, so why fix it? This year it was an utter time-wasting disaster!!!

Were I one to believe in conspiracies (and I am not--usually), i would almost think that the deterioration of the software was part of a plot by CPAs to bring back the business that they have lost from self-preparation tax software. But such a scenario would be ridiculous.

Wouldn't it?

What our customer's say!

"Turbo tax review", Good product but I find information entries to form 1099-misc. for oil and gas royalty properties a bit difficult.

"Turbo Tax is fine, Amazons Download Software Manager Does not work for All", Unless you have high speed internet and are NOT going through a restricted firewall (Like most work offices have) don't bother to try to down load ANY software using Amazons Download Manager. I have dial up at home and was able to get the down load started but after three attemps each taking 5-7 hours I would get error messages and would have to start agian. I tried downloading at work but could not get the download to start. I tried an internet cafe (at the suggestion of Amazons' tech support) and again could not get the download to start. I called tech support three separate times and they blamed the problems on the firewall securites and could not give me any suggestions on how to get around them each and every time. So, I will never buy software of ANY kind via Amazon as long as they have their Software Download Manager to deal with.

"Not that much harder than doing taxes by hand ...", If your taxes are very simple, this might work. However, if you have anything out of the ordinary, just forget it, Premiere doesn't handle it either. I know where most of these things go but had to figure out how to trick turbotax into putting things in the right place. I haven't used it but may try Orange Door next time. Cheaper and it couldn't be any worse. TurboTax can't even figure out the "effective tax rate" on the summary page. Oh, and don't bother with feedback or asking for help.

"Time saver", The program uses a very easy to follow question format. I began using TurboTax last year to handle taxes regarding a rental property and self-employment tax matters. This program saves me a lot of time.

"Premier not worth extra costs", I bought the TurboTax Premier edition, because I have a lot of stock sales to enter. Premier was suppose to allow me to import my information from my broker to save me the time to input this data. Unfortunately, I was not able to get this feature to work even though my broker offered this TurboTax feature.

Otherwise, TurboTax was easy to use.

"Better than Deluxe but still has problems", Running on OS X 10.4.11 on a Mac. See Review for Deluxe.

Intuit Customer Support furnished copy of Premier when two copies of Deluxe would not work properly.

Unlike the Deluxe version, the Premier version would acknowledge my estimated tax payments on Form 1040. However, like the Deluxe version, the "Moving" deduction part of the program does not do any calculations. For example, in Easy Step, it told me that I didn't meet the 50 mile criteria although we moved 200 miles. A check of Form 3903 indicated that the program had not subtracted the two mileage entries, and did not register the expenses entered after the mileage difference was overridden.

I don't think I can trust this program either. Will request refund.

I bought a copy of Tax Cut and it has worked fine so far.

"Easy to use.. walks you through the process", I have used TurboTax for several years and have continued to be hapy with the product. It is easy to use and walks you through each step. It is nice that is pulls data in from previous year, if you used TurboTax, into the current return.

"First Time In Ten Years", That I was able to do my own taxes without a CPA and in the economic crunch this product is well worth the money and it really makes you realize where yur money is going and where you should be saving more or less with the way things are going.

"Eventually does the job, but crashes!!!", I've used TurboTax to do my taxes for the last 5 years at least. My experience has been mostly great. It was always pretty easy to use and I always did my taxes about 3 times to make sure I wasn't making mistakes. To this day, I've never had an IRS issue that was caused by TurboTax.

Efiling is more expensive now. And Version 2007 crashes a lot. I first received a Free CD from Intuit that let me do my taxes, but wouldnt let me print or file unless I paid. I thought, sweet, I wont have to go shopping. Then it started crashing. So hard that it wouldnt run anymore. "encountered an error" and could not start. So I thought, oh well, I'll just order one from Amazon. Which I did. And I installed it and it worked. For awhile. I used it to do my brother and sister's taxes before it crashed again. A search on the TurboTax site revealed a fix. Uninstall .NET and install the latest version from Microsoft. I did that. It worked once and crashed again. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it started working again. So I did my taxes but didnt file due to some retirement forms I needed. I saved it, printed them out for my records and exited. That was last night. Today, I tried to start it and it's telling me "TurboTax encountereed an error..." and crashes. I have had it with the piece of $h1t. I'm going to reinstall it which usually fixes the problems. I'll finish my tax return and paper mail my taxes because I AM NOT GIVING INTUIT ANOTHER DIME OF MY MONEY!

Given that there are few options out there for tax prep software, it's not going to be fun hunting for something better. I hope if enough people leave these guys, they'll realize even if they have a virtual monopoly, they need to make their software work better. Check out reviews for their latest version of Quicken. It is riddled with bugs too. Quality control must be sorely lacking in all their products...
