Others say...

"As good as can be expected"
Any device of this type is going to be subject to the inherent limitations of the technology. Given this, the Zune Car Pack v2 has performed as well as could be expected. Here are the considerations you should be aware of.

- Don't expect it to sound as good as listening to the Zune directly. The frequency range and dynamic range will be somewhat compressed due to the nature of FM radio modulation. But it's the only option unless you have stereo with a Zune dock (if such a thing even exists), with a stereo analog input jack, or that can play music files directly from a CD or other media. You can also burn the songs to an audio CD but that sort of defeats the whole purpose of listening to your Zune through your car stereo.

- The frequency scan feature only scans a section of the total range at any one time. You will want to perform the scan several times to find the optimum frequency for your area. And expect that the optimum frequency will change as you drive from one place to another, especially if you have a long commute. In my case, there's one that works best when I'm close to work, and another that works best when I'm close to home. Both are programmed into the two presets on the Car Pack and on my car stereo.

- Any FM adapter for any music player has to transmit at a very low power in order to conform to FCC regulations and the Zune Car Pack is no exception. The nice thing about this kit is that the wire that connects the control module to the Zune is also the transmitting antenna. If the wire is stretched out, it can transmit more efficiently than the antenna in a compact unit that just plugs into the bottom of the Zune, so be sure not to bunch the wire up if at all possible. Other things that will affect this are the location of your car's antenna and the orientation of the Car Pack's antenna in relation to the car's.

- If you're in an urban area with a lot of radio stations, you may actually not be able to find a suitable frequency with a low enough signal level that the Car Pack can overcome it. If that's the case, then probably no FM adapter will work for you and your only options will be to burn songs to an audio CD, or upgrade your car stereo to one that can play the song files directly or has an input jack of some kind. My plan is to do this eventually but, in the meantime, the Car Pack is working acceptably well.

"Does exactly what it's suppose to"
This is a great product as it does exactly what its made for/advertised to. The only reason it only has 4 stars is because I'm cheap and would rather have a cheaper price. Only improvement I think would make this better is the ability to use the control pad to switch to other songs instead of using the Zune directly. Maybe it already does that and I've never tried to, but if it does it too then this thing is too good.

"Better stuff out there."
The Good.
It does what it claims to do and that is transmit an FM signal from your Zune to your vehicles stereo while charging and keeping your Zune powered.

The Bad.
The signal can be weak for no apparent reason. I used two different headunits in the same vehicle with the Zune performing very poorly on the stock unit. On the aftermarket headunit the Zunes performance greatly improved but not enough for me to recommend it.

The Ugly.
The little glowing symbol on the front of the AC adapter falls out when the temperature rises inside the cab of the vehicle. I used superglue to fix the issue. Also, the little screen that tells you what channel the Zune is broadcasting on is cheap plastic or acrylic and scratched the first day out of the box.


"Perfect for Your Car"
This car pack is the only thing you need for your zune and car to work as one! you can listen to your stuff, and charge it at the same time. the magnetic clip between the charger and the transmiter is pure genious, and the non-slip matt that comes with the pack is perfect for leaving your zune on the dash. Great product for zune!

"I like it alot"
i really like this item. i think that zune has done it right with the auto find feature. i also think that it is cool how it broadcast artist and song information to your radio.
