What our customer's say!
"Essential product for your zune", Our family loves our 4 Zunes but we also like to listen to music together. There aren't many speaker docks for the Zune and the one we tried didn't work well and we had difficulty with the docking connection. The Zune Home AV Pack V2 with a good set of computer speakers turned out to be a much better solution.
This set includes the dock (with an integrated USB cable), an A/C charger which accepts the USB plug, a composite video cable, and a remote. It has jacks for audio, composite video, and component video (which is better.) If you want to use component video you need to provide your own cable. Only the Zune 30, 80, and 120 support video output. I believe the 4/8/16 don't have this capability.
The remote mimics the Zune controls so it is easy and convenient to use. The base is sturdy and our Zune slips in easily and connect every time. The A/C charger, as advertised, is compact and convenient.
We got ours for 2/3 of retail. It is now less than 1/2 retail. A very good deal, don't hesitate to get it at this price.
This is a better solution over a 3rd party Zune speaker dock for us because: - You can choose the quality of the speakers you want to hook up, including using a subwoofer or not, or use your home stereo system. - You can separate the speakers to enhance the stereo effect. - You can mount the computer/mp3 speakers on the wall saving valuable desk space. - The remote handles all of the Zune's functions (you need to be looking at the screen for navigation). The dock we bought only had play/stop, on/off, and volume. Surprisingly you can see the screen of a Zune 30 or 80 from a good distance away.
What we didn't like as much (not this item's fault): - It introduces more wires than a consolidated dock. - No alarm clock functionality
So if you are neat with your wires and don't need an alarm or other features some of the speaker docks provide, this is perfect.
"sweet little unit", it is a neet little package...plugs into tv well, remote is awesome good little way to connect to TV. nice work
"The best", This was purchesed for our grandson and upon receiving it , this was a plus plus plus. The COST was incredible and the quality great.
"Easy home listening", The AV Pack v2 works great with my Zune 124 - easy to install and connect, easy to move. I esp. like that it has the new AC adapter, which I can use with my USB cable for the Zune. Remote works surprisingly well from everywhere in the room, including the 30' diagonal. Very happy with it.
Note: I only use it for music, connected to my audio setup, so I can't review the video capabilities. But for audio, it's great, and with the Zune 120, cranking it through the big speakers, shuffling my 15,000 songs is great and convenient.
"Zune home a/v pack v2 works with 120 gb, great component output video", The version 2 home a/v pack is definitely the way to go if you have an 80gb or 120 gb zune. (Keep in mind that currently, only the 80 and 120 gb zune can output video via component cabling.) Something none of the other reviews have touched on is the fact that this model is the one that contains component out jacks on the back of the zune dock. You can, therefore, use any component cable (not supplied) for DVD quality output of movies, etc.
I can attest that the output looks absolutely fantastic on a 50 inch HD widescreen set. My wife could not see any difference in it and our high end upscaling DVD player. Of course, a lot depends on how you encode the video and the quality of the source. But assuming you get that right, you will be very pleased with the look of the video. (720 x 576 resolution with component) Also, the menu system itself doesn't look all that hot. But a nicely encoded video will sure treat your eyes once you fire it up. you have lots of choices now on encoding since the Zune 3 firmware supports .wmv, mpeg-4, and h.264 video files.
I have put about 10 movies on so far for our 2 year old to watch on an upcoming trip. Now, the audio output is strictly stereo; but I don't think that's much to complain about since what hotel or guest room is going to have you a surround speaker system set up.
Another reviewer has also stated that this kit does not work with the Zune 120 gb. He is very wrong. It states right on the front of the box that the kit works with all zunes. (and lists it specifically as well) The way they do this is by including various "faceplates" for the different zunes. I was worried about this initially, but they conform very nicely and you can't even really tell they are removable once they're in. It comes with a 4g/8gb labelled plate, a 30 gb labelled plate, and an 80 gb labelled plate. The 80 gb plate is the one to use for the 120. It fits perfectly. I've had no issues docking this thing at all; so don't quite understand the other comments regarding that.
Remote works very well with decent range. If you have an 80 or 120 gb zune and are looking to have an easy way to watch dvd quality movies on a TV while travelling, this kit is perfect for you.
UPDATE 12/10/08: I just got back from a trip where I got to put the kit to use. Everyone thought I was playing the movies from a DVD. The Zune functionality was also great seeing as how I was showing slideshows of a recent trip complete with music. When listening to music, the Zune puts up the album art that it scavenges from the online database; very cool. Couple things to point out.
1. The composite video out can't hold a candle to the component out. Spend a little extra to get a nice set of short, component cables. Also, the Zune sync software includes an option in settings to optimize video for TV output. Make sure this is enabled. It takes a little longer to sync video this way, but well worth the time.
2. If you are having an issue with volume through your tv when watching movies, make sure your actual zune unit volume is turned all the way up. Since the kit uses the headphone jack on the zune, volume is 1st dependent on how high you have the zune volume set. If your zune vol. is turned way down, you can max out your TV's volume and still only get a trickle of sound. So, in essence, you have 2 volumes to deal with: TV volume and Zune volume. May seem obvious to some, but it is easy to overlook when doing all the other connections while your 2 year old is yelling to see "Snow White."
3. If you don't see any picture on the TV after cabling the component jacks, there is a little switch on the back of the Zune that must be pushed toward the component jacks. Also, the black plate that hides the component jacks will not go back on the Zune until the switch is pushed back into its default composite position.
So overall, the Zune and home kit v2 performed wonderfully. I can re-emphasize the importance of this kit for any Zune owner.

"Great For Charging Zune", If you want to fully enjoy your zune, you have to get this pack. The only way to always have wireless on when your on the go is to always charge it before leaving the house. Whenever I get home I just plug my zune right into the home dock. A lot of people who have zunes say that the wireless functions drain the battery too much, but if you have a home dock, this eliminates that problem.
Pros -keeps zune chargedn no doubt -nice to plug into your tv or entertainment system to listen or watch the stuff on your zune.
Cons -the remote control for the home dock is too rigid for my tastes -if you want your zune to be in HD, you need to buy component cables too.
"Great Product", I bought this because I lost my sync cable and this was on sale for 45% off. It does everything it says it would, I have it hooked up in my living room and everyday when I get back from work, I just drop my Zune 80 in the dock, and it starts charging and syncing with my computer(assuming the computer is on and has the Zune Software running).
If I'm syncing a large amount of files you can plug this straight into the computer, otherwise it's hooked up to my tv for its video/audio out feature (great for viewing podcasts/videos/photos) I've had not problems with it, and would even consider buying another for my bedroom.
"Great product, not so great price", This is a fun product to have, and it adds so much value to your Zune. Comes with the charger, AV cables, and dock. My only complaints are with the price and the fact that you cannot detach the cable from the dock. It works very well, response time is good, you can tell the design and build quality is substantial. Makes for great use with guests, especially. But at the price that it is currently retailing at, well, unless you things Zune brand and like your things official (like me) you might be better off just buying a standard AV cable and sufficing with that. The real advantage, however, that this offers you, is the dock, which allows for higher quality output. (The jacks for "HD" video output is located in the back, behind the removable panel) Being that you're likely to connect the cables in the back, there is no way for radio signal to get to your Zune, so the radio function is defunct. Or, you could plug it through the headphone jack, which adds functionality back to cable, but makes the setup a little less neat looking and the weight of the cables could stress to the leaning Zune which makes it prone to falling over. This is all, of course, according to the 30 GB model that I have, it might be different in the newer ones, although I doubt it. Overall, a good product, the price just needs to lower. By a lot.
"Overpriced junk", I love my Zune but this was a ripoff.
Mine has a short in in somewhere--only the left channel was working. In fact, I thought it was my receiver so I bought another one. Turns out it was a short in either the wiring or the cradle--After wiggling it a little it works.
But at this price, this is high for wires and plastic--even if it WORKED.
I'm sorely disappointed.
"A great product !", I have a 80 MB Zune, this product plugs right into my stereo system and allows me to listen to my zune using my stereo and it also charges my zune as well. I am very pleased. I did not have any problems with the adapter base as it is all straight forward and works as advertised. I would recommend this product to anyone. I have not used the video part or the wireless feature as of yet. I really purchased it to do just what it is currently doing.
