"Canon has done it again!" Once again, Canon has produced another well built product. I have had no problems with this product since purchasing it. I recommend this for all professional and freelance photographers who do a wide range of shooting. This grip is ideal for sports shooting, it relieves stress put on your wrist.
"This makes your 40D Complete" I am pleased with the battery grip. It makes it so much easier to shoot in portrate mode. Also not having to change the batteries for ever is a nice touch.
"Great grip" This is the third Canon grip that I currently own. I use a 30D, 40D, and now a 50D for event photography, and my first grip was the BG-E2 for the 30D. The 40D, and 50D both have the BG-E2N grip, which offers better dust and moisture seals, but both look and feel the same from an operators perspective.
The very early grips had electrical contact issues, but that problem was resolved by the time the 30D was shipping several years ago. I like the extra real estate offered by the grip, the extra battery power, and the fact that it allows me to use the hand strap in place of the neck strap. That alone is worth the cost to me, as I can let a camera hang from my hand with a grip and hand strap all day long in total comfort, even with a big lens like the 70-200 f/2.8 IS L, as opposed to being beaten to near death with the camera bouncing off of my neck and chest as I move about. It also makes the camera ready for instant action. You really have to try the setup to understand, but the combination really delivers.
"Battery Grip" This battery grip works as advertised. I use the Opteka battery grips on my Canon Rebel XT and XTI so when I bought my Canon 40D I knew I would need the grip. I went with the Canon brand for this and have not had any problems as of yet. There are those out there that have had problems with this product, but I feel that if you use a little care and take care of your equipment it will work the way it's designed and last a long time.
"Perfect!" Canon battery grip is a MUST have accessories, I can't imagine myself using a camera without the grip! It makes it very easy to hold the camera! I am very pleased with this accessory and I will buy it again when I get another *0D DSLR :)

What our customer's say!
"Don't know how I got along without it.", If you don't have a battery grip and you shoot a lot of sports or other Portrait-orientation shots, you don't know what you are missing. As a "prosumer" sports photographer, I was always having to fix the rotation of action shots taken by turning the camera sideways. No more. And they extra battery means I pretty much never have to worry about running out in the middle of a day of shooting.
My only warning is that I sometimes accidentally slip the on-off switch into the "off" position, making the shutter release stop working. The switch is right below the on-off switch on the camera.
If you get a third battery and a battery charger with a car adaptor, you can literally shoot all day.
"Good Product", I got this for my 40D for Christmas, and I fell in love with it right away. Shooting in portrait mode became so much more comfortable, I couldn't tell anymore whether I was shooting in portrait or landscape because it both felt the same. My only issue was that it took me a few minutes to figure out the shutter button as it is not the same as the shutter on the camera, But all you need is to add a little more pressure.
"BG-E2N battery grip", functional. It gets a little time to get used to specially if you've been using your camera for a while without it. Overall I rate it highly necessary.
"Stick with brand names", I purchased this Canon battery grip after owning an off brand type grip. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The quality says it all. If you're looking for a well made grip, get this one
"Must Have Accessory", I purchased this for my Canon EOS 50D ( I have always used a battery grip with my Canon's) and I can't imagine life without it.
Very sturdy yet comfortable. I shot over 1300 photos without a re-charge with 2 battery packs...simply amazing.
Don't hesitate to add this to your purchase, it is a "must have" in my opinion.

"canon battery grip for 30D", The product is everything Canon states it to be. Will be purchasing another one soon for my second Canon 30D.
"Got this to hold vertical shots. Good for that.", Heavy. More to grip. Good with my 300mm lens. If you want one, you've got to pay to play. Don't get the Hong Kong junk. You will regret it.
"Great addition to my 40D", For me the BG-E2N is a must have. As a Wedding & Events Photographer I use the added power and the flexibilty of the vertical shutter release as I make alot of vertical shots. I find it more comfortable and controlable using the battery grip. Feels good in my hands and it looks good too!
"Great for balance and vertical shots", Enough positives being mentioned already. I am all for it.
Only negative I can think of is the wheel that turns the screw that connects to the camera. This wheel feels cheap, wobbling quite a bit more than it should. But once tightened, the grip is very secure and firm without any shake or crack as some others mentioned. My Canon grip for 350D Rebel XT is better, believe it or not. The wheel doesn't wobble, the whole thing is tight, and finish feels more solid.
And one wish - Canon will remove the power switch on the grip and let the camera switch drive both the camera and the grip. Hope this is not too hard for Canon.
"Dissapointing Overall", PROS: Extra long battery life, nice for vertical shooting, gives you a bigger grip on the camera. This unit DOES include the plastic AA battery tray so that you can run your camera off of 6 AA batteries. No need to purchase it separately.
CONS: My first one broke. From day one, it always attached a bit loosely. Then the fastener wheel got jammed one day and I was BARELY able to get it off the camera, so I exchanged it for another one.
Now I'm on my 2nd unit and the fastener wheel spins a little loose when tightened all the way, just like like it did on the first unit I sent back. HOPEFULLY it won't jam up again. It attaches to the 40D more solidly than my first one, but it doesn't feel nearly as tight at my BG-E3 did when I used to own the XTi/400D.
My second unit also holds the left battery so loosely that the white plastic tab BARELY locks the battery in place and will allow the battery to slide out and fall if tilted downward with the battery door open. Very dissapointing, and I might be sending it back to C*non for warranty repair.
Given the high price, I think it's disappointing that the grip isn't made with more solid metal parts instead of plastic. Apparently the gear inside the unit is made with plastic teeth! It feels almost like a cheap toy in my opinion. It just feels flimsy overall. Another problem I've had is sometimes the vertical shutter button won't work unless I hold it down for 1-2 seconds. I press the shutter button firmly and simply nothing happens. Other times it works fine.
