Others say...
"Diamond VC500 One Touch was a good choice" I wanted the device so that I could copy my old VHS-C moves to a CD or a DVD. After a short period of time setting up the program and playing around with it, I was able to make VCD's with no problem. I still haven't become familiar enough with it to make the DVD's turn out every time. While some of my VHS tapes will convert to DVD format and play in my DVD player, others end up giving an error message instead of ejecting the finished DVD. Perhaps spending more time working with the VC500 will help me sort out the problem. For now, I decided to finish putting all my movies on VCD first, then I'll go back and work out the DVD problem. I also found that I had to burn the DVDs (those that did turn out good) with Windows DVD Maker...I couldn't figure out whether or not the accompanying movie editing program would perform the burning task, so it was just easier to go ahead and use Windows DVD Maker.
If, in the end, I can't figure out how to solve this one problem, I'll probably go to the Diamond website and read the directions
"Cheap, Vista Compatible and it Works" I bought this for transferring some VHS to DVD, installed everything and couldn't get the audio to play and the bundled ULead Video studio kept crashing. Then I read the manual and realised I had to use the stripped down One Touch Video Capture program they also supply. And it worked, very well. It'll produce AVI, MP4, WMV, VMA, MP3 and some others (DVD, SDVD, VCD, whatever they are...). Then (if you've got Vista), just import the files into Windows DVD Maker and you're away.
There's always going to be a certain amount of loss when copying analogue to digital, but the results are very watchable and the audio was in perfect sync.
"good but not?" This product worked for two captures, then stalled and would no longer work. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same thing happened again! Fortunately I don't have that much to transfer, but overall I'm a bit disappointed. When it works, it does a functional job of capturing the video.
"Good price for excelent product" I needed a device to capture my camcorder videos into my PC to convert them into DVD, and found that this small device did the work just perfect. Not only is it really affordable, it is so easy to use: you just have to plug your camcorder cable output into the video-audio inputs, connect the usb cable to any USB port, install the drivers and you are set. The Video editing software is basic, but enough for any simple editing to DVD.
The only reason I don't give it 5 stars its because of the limited picture quality tha capture device gives, although that also depends on the quality of the video that you use for input.
For the price of this device, I thinks its a bargain!
"It works fine and easy." It works fine and easy. You only have to ensure that your computer has enough resources to handle it properly.

What our customer's say!
"Not Compatible with Windows XP SP3", If you've upgraded your Windows XP OS to service pack 3, this device will not run. Worse, after you install the software, Windows becomes unstable and there is no way to fix the damage except to reinstall Windows or do a System Restore to a point before the installation of this device.
But what bothers me the most is that Diamond offers NO support. I tried to phone them but there is no telephone contact info listed on their website for tech support. I tried their tech support chat facility for three days and was always told that no operators were online. I tried emailing them and they never replied. This left me feeling pretty negative toward Diamond products in general.
"NOT Mac compatible", I was unable to find any info on if this is Mac compatible, but I purchased it anyway, since all the ones that said they were explicitly Mac compatible were much more expensive. Well, it is NOT Mac compatible. I've found differing info on whether this is because Intel Macs only use the more efficient firewire to transfer video or what, but I was unable to get it to work. The Mac won't detect that the device is connected in any program. Also, the transfer program that comes with the device is only for Windows.
So I installed the program on our Windows computer and it worked fine hooked up to the VCR. Basically, your monitor becomes the TV screen for the VCR - you can just record the whole thing or fast forward and record segments of old videos by pushing the button on the device or on your screen in the program.
The program they give you is really just for capturing - it's not fancy at all. I transferred the files back to my Mac after capturing them and edited them with iMovie.
So - recommended, but only if you have a Windows computer and some decent editing software.
"Does what it should but has challenges", Overall, I'm "okay" this product does what it advertises, though I've found problems with it very easily. It seems that this device depends on host processing more than I'd like.
Hit(s):
o Captures analog quality audio and video through USB ports on reasonably current hardware. o Includes software to capture video directly to local disk.
Miss(es):
o Extremely sensitive to static energy - can cause device to fail if you're recording on a laptop and move enough to build up a relatively minor static charge. The hardware needs to be grounded to prevent this. o Utilizes more CPU than expected. o Included software flaky - many quirks. o Default recording format doesn't work on some systems. o Audio/video de-sync problem seen frequently even on recent hardware when recording longer periods (15 minutes or more).
"Very Pleased", I'm very pleased with the results I have had with this item. It was easy to set up, and intuitive to use. I have made several reasonably sharp videos from old VHS tapes, using the DVD resolution, and have encountered none of the sound/image sync problems I've read about in other reviews. I have, however experienced some kind of scanning interference. I assume that there is some external source causing it, although,I shut off all dimmers, fluorescent lights, and motors that might have caused it, but could not eliminate it. It's not very noticeable, and I'm still pleased with the look of my videos.
"It works, however it is in no way perfect.", I bought this product only because I did not have enough to buy the Game Bridge. Needless to say, I am pleased with the product. I do have a few rants, however...
The driver software. When I this arrived in the mail, I tested it and it worked great. When I used it later, it did not work. I ended up having to update with the drivers on the Diamond website. After that, it worked, it was still very inconvenient to have to update them just to use it.
Next is the actual recording. There are many settings to make the quality better, which is nice, but they don't fix a few problems. First, there is sometimes lag in the recordings, which makes the VHS tapes I am trying to convert look "jumpy". It also stops completely at points. The sound still plays, so when it comes back to normal, it has to catch up with the sound, which loses 6-8 seconds of footage.
I sometimes like to record games with this product. It works, but there is a slight lag in the buttons, which causes rhythm games like Guitar Hero to be nearly unplayable.
All in all, it is a good product for the price. But it is not perfect.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Awesome Video!", This was an excellent purchase. The device works great with my computer and it came with a good introductory movie-making software. Highly recommended.
"Does not work with XP service pack 3", The program with the Vc500 changes some files that are used by XP Sservice Pack 3 which Windows needs to function properly. I had reloaded SP3 and then checked the program for the device and it was all messed up so i has to remove it. So if you have XP SP3 i suggest not getting this device.
"UTTER DISASTER", Poorly written drivers and incompatible video capture software ruin this product for me. This is going back to Amazon immediately. I've spent hours on the phone and via e-mail with Diamond's so-called "technical support." First, the driver doesn't allow me to capture sound in Corel/Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus. Second, if I install Diamond's "One Touch Video Capture" software, it renders Corel/Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus absolutely inoperable; any attempt to launch Corel/Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus results in a RUDE, hideous ordinal 17 and MPGVOUT.DLL error message. To fix this, you must uninstall Diamond's proprietary One Touch Video Capture software. Fortunately, Corel/Ulead will then start working again. But -- then -- the driver that ships with this USB 2.0 device doesn't work with my brand new Dell Optiplex: NO SOUND! No sound no matter what I do in the system audio configuration settings. I've long known that Canopus Firewire analog-to-digital converters were the best way to go because they don't require proprietary drivers. They're more expensive. But what is worse? Dealing with a clueless Diamond Multimedia tech? Or paying a little extra money for something that actually works?
"Awesome 4 Capturing Video Game Footage!!!!", After buying several Video Capturing Devices, i found this one and it actually works awesome. You are able to play almost any video game system on your computer monitor as long as it has the a/v cables(red, white, yellow) While you have the video capture program up and running on your monitor, you can click record on the screen and stop to stop recording. Then you can watch the video you just recorded and name the video. Then you can transfer to another file or import it to Windows Movie Maker or any other Video Editing Software. The Picture quality is pretty good and the sound is pretty good. ***Here's how you hook up the Diamond VC500***
1.One end of the diamond VC500 has a usb port and the other end has a/v cable hookups(red, white, yellow and an s-video that you don't have to use if you don't want to) 2.Plug the usb end into the computer and the a/v cables from the VC500 plug into your consoles a/v cables(red, white, yellow and s-video if you want to) and simple as that! Of course you have to install the programs that came with the VC500 which takes around 15 minutes because you have to restart your computer afterwards but after that, it should be a breeze. Any ?, comment back
"Simple to use and effective", Works well for my purpose. Easy, easy easy! Just plug into the usb port on my laptop and the a/v out ports on my VCR, stick in an analog cassett to make a new digital video file on an external hard drive.
