Others say...
"this rat, a twee little fellow" I wondered why Pixar picked this as a title for their new movie, considering that it's a French dish and you need to educate people how to pronounce it on the movie poster itself; but by the time you've seen the movie to the end it becomes apparent why it could not be called anything else. Pixar seems to have been making kids movies that adults can enjoy, but this seems to me to be the first time they've made an adult movie that kids can enjoy.
I was a bit sceptical about this film at first, since the trailers didn't make it look very interesting - sort of ho-hum like Flushed Away or something - but the reviews were all so glowing (the Rotten Tomatoes critics poll gave it a 96 percent approval) that I had to see it. And it really lived up to those reviews. The film is about a rat that wants to cook, and while the UB40 song "Rat in the Kitchen" is never used, the idea of rats being icky creatures to be banished from the kitchen is a sqeamish thought that's... never really addressed here. It kind of makes me think of an essay I read in Esquire in the mid-80s about the 50 most influential people of the 20th century (so far). One of them was Walt Disney, and the hypothesis of the essay is that Disney could take a story like Franz Kafka's the Metamorphosis and turn it into a song and dance with a cute cockroach and melt everyone's hearts (which they tried to do with "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"). Well, Disney put clothes on a rat and called him Mickey, but Pixar pushed the envelope a bit by putting a real, raw rat in the kitchen and asked us to be happy that he's handling the foodstuffs without a proper de-lousing. And we fell for it. Does this mean that Pixar is clever, or does this mean that we're idiots? Well, Disney was never as bold, and now Pixar has taken the step that that Esquire article warned us about. Hilarious.
As good as Pixar is, it has gotten a bit derivative recently - the Incredibles, as good as the film was, ripped off both the Watchmen (plot) and the Fantastic Four (powers, villain). Cars was a rehash of "Doc Hollywood," but with automobiles. But Ratatouille is something different. There are bizarre non-sequitars: where are the female rats in all this, why not show more of Remy's childhood to understand how he became so interested in cooking rather than introduce him as if he were a character in "Trainspotting"; and Linguini's abrupt romance is a bit difficult to understand.
But never mind, the story of the little restaurant that could... then couldn't... then could again is quite a lot of fun. Sure there's that icky part where the friends' conflicting emotions cause them to momentarily betray each other (every movie needs its movie cliche), but the way the ending is wrapped up is quite impressive. I don't remember the last time an animated movie about rats that cook brought a tear to my eye either.
"Kind of boring, but funny at times" My daughter wanted this movie for a long time, and the previews seems really funny. After I bought it however, she lost interest pretty quickly. The movie starts how being funny, then it gets kind of boring, and Ratty turns into a total snob towards his family. In the end however the movie ends well with everyone happy and Ratty making up with his family. Overall I think the movie was overated.
"Exellent Family Movie" All of us enjoy this movie. Food, wine, romance, a unique story what isn't there to enjoy?
"Great Entertainment" Truly a classic film. They must have studied the behaviour and personalities of rats for ages to perfect it! Great for all the family!
"An animation masterpiece!" What can I say that hasn't already been said? The animation is breathtaking, the story pacing is superb, the story itself is dramatic, funny, and heart-warming without being treacly. This is a movie they got right in every respect.
I'm sure all that has been said before. I loved this movie so much I just wanted to say it again.

What our customer's say!
"OUTRAGED", I never received the movie I ordered for my daughter for Christmas. Don't order from seemybooks2. Amazon on the other hand took care of the problem for me and refunded my money. Good job by Amazon.
"Ratatouille", The box was in the original, unopened/brand new condition. I was very happy with my purchase and with the speedy service I received. The little one this was purchased for, loves to watch it!
"Never recieved my order", The seller that I purchased this item from needs to be forbidden from selling on Amazon. I never recieved my order and have sent email's to the seller and have gotten no reply to any of them. I think this person is a theif and makes your company look very bad. I give them a rating of ZERO Stars because I think that is what they are worth.
"Very Unsatisified!!!!!!!", I ordered this DVD the week of Thanksgiving so I could give it plenty of time to get here for Christmas. By the week before Christmas, it still had not arrived. I wrote an email to the company who sent it and never received a reply. It never came. And I have never received a refund. My advice to you: do NOT order anything from seemybooks!!! This is a wonderful movie and it would have made a wonderful gift. I actually ended up spending much more money than intended because I had to replace the gift. So just be safe, and order it from another supplier!
"You have to love a rat that can cook one mean meal.", I loved the movie only because I love critters. My daughter loved the movie because a rat can cook and talk. The move is cute and fine detailed. Although warning after watching it ten times can make you sick of it. So watch it here and there. BUY this movie for any one that loves critters and kids that love to watch animals cook. Do not buy for someone that easily gets grossed out or is majorly afraid of germs and critters.

"Worthy of the Award", Ratatouille was a great movie in my opinion. It follows the story of a Rat living on the outskirts of Paris, France and his desire to become a Chef. Disney and Pixar have a fairly decent tag team going on here, but not every movie they make is good. Back in 2006, they released "Cars", and to me that was a bad movie. Someone told me that with "Cars" Disney and Pixar attempted an overindulgence of humor, which cost it winning the Academy Award that year because no one took it serious. "Happy Feet" won the award that year and it deserves it because of it's deep and emotional story that the message was mainly trying to say that our world is changing and we need to save it for the lives of others. Now to get back on topic, Ratatouille wanted to remove to excessive amount of humor and add more of a story to the mix. It was able to successfully pull this off and still was able to throw in the right amount of humor. It's a fairly long movie to, so you get your moneys worth by watching this. There was a time where I had no desire to see this movie what so ever, but I saw it after many people told me it was pretty good, and I was surprised that I actually enjoyed watching this movie.
"Ratatouille, a movie for the whole family.", My family enjoyed this movie so much. Great entertainmnet for adults and children alike. Lots of action and even a couple of "EEEYOU"s. One of my favorite Disney DVD's.
"Genuinely fun for the larger people", With hundreds of reviews in place, is there any need for another one?
I'll leave that unanswered.
Instead let me say that I went to see Ratatouille with my daughters. They had a wonderful, fun time, and might possibly have learned something about French restaurants. And I had a completely reasonable time, laughed some, and generally enjoyed myself. The Pixar folks have a pretty good handle on making kids films that adults at least tolerate, and often appreciate. Isn't that the definition of a family film?
"a silly movie", Very entertaining Pixar movie, just like most of the others. There were some great scenes. We loved the lightning scene on the roof.
"One of Disney's & Pixar's best yet", I've long been of two minds about Disney animated films -- they're often overwritten, sappy, and don't come even close to the fairy tales on which they claim to be based -- but this one is indeed very enjoyable, as shown by the Academy Award it won as best of the year. The story line is original, too: Remy is a French country boy with the makings of a great chef, but there's one big problem. He's a rat. Having found himself in Paris at the restaurant of his late hero, Chef Gusteau, Remy meets up with Linguini, the restaurant's new scullery lad, who has zero cooking talent. But by combining the rat's genius in the kitchen with the young man's human-ness (and his ability to be puppet-controlled by having his hair judiciously yanked beneath his toque), they set Paris on its ear and attract the attention of the city's greatest food critic, Anton Ego (the voice of Peter O'Toole). The characterizations are terrific, the dialogue is fun (especially Lou Romano as Linguini), and the humor is generally subtle. And, like nearly all successful "kid's films," it also has a lot for adults; my six-year-old granddaughter and I both enjoyed it.
