"Console Garbage"
Gears of War has brief moments of fun, punctuated by long periods of boredom and frustration. The game is quite short, but artificially lengthened with obnoxious save "checkpoints" that make you perform the same actions and watch the same cutscenes over and over and over again. Most of the challenge of this game comes from fighting the awkward and imprecise controls.

"best game ever"
First I had a little problem with this game but after I got Windows Live installed, everything workout just great. I played twice already and did not find anything wrong with the game. The graphic is just fantastic. Can't wait for the GOW2 for PC to come out. Run this game on Intel Q6600 and 2xRadeon HD3870 CrossfireX

"Good game, just not as good as its cracked up to be."
Lets get the obvious out of the way, yes the game is overrated. With all of the hype and hope that went into this game, and with the responsibility of the beginning life of the 360 resting on its shoulders its going to be overrated. Ok, now for some actual reviewing. The graphics are gorgeous, although they did use some cheap tricks like pre-rendered backgrounds and only using three colors to make it look better than it really should, but it still gives the effect of looking good, which is all that really matters. The sound for the guns and explosions was good. For the life of me I can't even remember the music, which can't really be saying a good thing about it now can it? The storyline is kind of a ripoff of the two biggest shooters of our time. It is essentially Killzone meets Halo, but in all honesty its a shooter, story is nice to have, but is not a necessity. Plus these days, it is nearly impossible to come up with an idea that hasn't already been used. The action is pretty fun and the cover system works very well. There are some good deteriorating effects on the cover as well. The multi player is interesting at first, but gets boring fast. All in all I liked this game. If you want a solid, well put together shooter with nice graphics and a fun campaign, then I recommend you at least try it if you have a Xbox 360 or a good PC.

"Very Good - Not sure what the complaints are"
I struggled with whether or not to rate the game 5 stars, it's no where near perfect, but at the end of the day, it's a fantastic game.

You can read plenty of reviews about how the game operates, but I just wanted to point out that I had absolutely no issue at all installing this game on my Windows Vista machine. Installed and played fine, and I never came across a single bug...

I also HATE xbox 360, I'm a PS3 guy, but decided to give this game a go and thought it was fantastic. I purchased a wired 360 controller and plugged it into my computer, the game recognized it without any additional hardware/software and it played just like it would with the controller on a console, (I hate keyboard/mouse).

Definately very happy with everything so far. Highly recommend playing the game.

What our customer's say!

"Bugs and repitition", The first problem with this game is that you need to sign into LIVE to save any progress in single player mode. If anything happens to your Live ID you loose your game. At least when it's saved on your hard drive you have the option of backing up any game progress and can restored it if anything happens.

But most of all it wasn't that good of a game. I was first attracted to it because your blood splattered on the monitor when you got shot. As it turns out, not enough to make the game good. I bought it at a higer price than the $29 but wouldn't pay that if I had to do it again.

"Console port with a few extras.", Gears of War for PC is basiclly a console port with a few more extra content added onto the 5th act. Just like the console version, this is an amazing game. The cover and shooting system is extremely fun and online play is addicting. The extra content added onto the levels is cool but not amazing. I have not experienced framerate/save game issues unlike what other reviewers said, although when i got the game it did take a long time to update because of the games for windows live bugging out on me so i had to find the update manually on the internet. Other than installation, it's the same solid fun game as it was on the console. The only thing I didn't like is the ranked/social/live playlist crap, theres not really that much people that play the pc version why can't there just be 1 playlist.

"Good game, but better on Xbox 360", This is a good PC game but it plays better on an Xbox 360.
I am running 64bit Vista with an AMD 5000+ Black Edition processor, 4GB of 800Mhz dual channel RAM, 2 160GB SATA HDD's stripped, and 2 XFX 8600GT XXX edition PCI-E video card in SLI config. There are only games installed in this instance of Windows. With all of this I still have issues with studdering while running the game on mostly medium and low settings. Online play is good, but I have issues finding people to play with within a reasonable time frame. Even with the extra content, I think that the Xbox 360 version is better.

"annoying game", duck.. fire fire fire... game over. RELOAD CHECKPOINT and wait one minute.... run duck fire fire... opps... RELOAD CHECKPOINT and wait some more. run run run... duck... fire... RELOAD...

While this is a fun game for the most part, the checkpoints are few and far between. Unless you've mastered the game, you spend almost an equal amount of time playing as you do for the game to reload. This is on the medium level and from someone who is a pretty good game player. Now if you play it extra careful by frequently ducking and not taking too many risks then you'll stay alive longer and have less restores. For someone who likes to jump out in the middle and kick butt, you're going to be doing a lot of dying, which I guess is the point of this kind of game, but still it would be nice if you could save it at anytime or have an option to pick the checkpoint system or not. This checkpoint system ruins the game if you ask me. One frustrating point is the level where you defend a base, after 10 minutes of fighting a hole opens up and three boomers start attacking. One hit from them and you're dead with no second chances. Some of these levels take wayyy too long to get through as a result. Due to the frustration and boredom of repeating everything again and again, on some of these difficult levels, I have to take a break and play the game later. It shouldn't feel like work to play a game!

"great game", the finest shooting game i ever laid my hands on. control is smooth if your not lagging and the experience is phenomenal. if you like the ability to act like your in a real war situation, where you WONT be jumping around like a idiot like how you do in counter strike cuz your gonna get shot!. One of the few things i like about this game is that I can bait enemies and have them come to me, then i flank around them and BAM!(im talking multi player) direct shot in the body with a shot gun sends there body to several dozen pieces on the concrete floor. there is countless strategies, don't just run out and start killing things But this is not a game for campers, since the screen only focus on the area your looking at. now you have a vulnerability to get shot if someone comes from behind you and your camping for the other enemy to fall for your trap. im guessing you can, you just wont be to happy with the results after couple online plays lol.

"Gears of War, Good luck", I also have an alienware system built for gaming. This title won't load and their support is a joke. Stay away, very far away.

"PURE CRAPOLA! WORSE THAN VISTA!", JUST WHAT THE TITLE SAYS! DON'T LIKE ONLINE PLAY! STAY OFF MY COMPUTER! SYSTEM HOG! STICK WITH THE MORE DECENT SINGLE PLAYER GAMES! GRAPHICS ARE THE SAME AND FUNNER SINGLE PLAYER! DON'T WANT TO PLAY WITH MORONS ONLINE! WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MICROSOFT GAME! GOING STRICTLY PS3 ON THE CONSOLE AND OTHER DEVELOPERS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH MICROSOFT ON THE PC!!!

"Oh My Gibness!!!", After waiting 1 year after this monster came out and hearing how fantastic it was from my friends, I finally got to play it on my pc. This game is nothing short of gaming cinematic genius; thanks epic. It is a game that should have been made a long time ago, even before the existence of Doom 3. The controls are much more precise than those on the 360, that and the graphics on the Unreal Engine 3 have been significantly boosted. Much of Unreal Tournament 3's graphics are identical to the visuals seen in Gears for PC now. The campaign is very dynamic and laden with high tension, the enemies are actually worthy of being feared. The only problems with this rendition of Gears is the AI difficulty and some minor glitches when approaching walls. Be sure to have a beefy system before you think of buying this master piece. My 8600 GTS still has frequent lag fits when entering some of the more character-populated areas of the game. Have fun and be sure to bring a splash guard in case of flying entrails and blood.

"Fun and challenging", Great game plat, fairly smart A.I. Good story.
The "LIVE" stuff and achievements are a little irritating.
Can't wait for the second game to come out for PC.

"Stiff and jerky like a console game...", I haven't played many ports to PC, and this is great example why.

The game looks nice, but the controls and gameplay are stiff and jerky like playing on a console. Too bad this wasn't made for PC first.
