"Works great!"
I had no problems with installation. And it's simple and intuitive to use. I have used it to make archive copies of disks (protecting the favorite dvds from the dangers of little fingers). And also to burn home movies onto DVDs. The reason for my purchase was really to have the ability to make home movies that would play on most dvd players. Nero passed that test with flying colors! I'm very happy. And good price on Amazon compared to some of the big box stores!

"The NERO Experience From Germany ; By A USA Amazon Dealer"
Nero 8 Ultra Edition I like anyone love creating DVD's for just about anything. Wasn't it a big suprise when I had computer problems and had to reinstall NERO three times and got a registry error created by the nero program. I paid for the upgrade because the program wouldn't work without it and I never heard anything from the Germany based company and almost eate the $49.95 they wanted to reinstate the program.

The program was buggy from the start, would lock up at random, used all the system resources and would finish DVD's sometimes usually taking three hours to complete one DVD

I know what your saying he has a "crappy computer" and that is the problem, well that isn't the problem. The NERO company will gouge you for more money with half a chance

When I got the registration error there was nothing in the instructions to correct the problem. It is their way to force you into upgrading to a new version!!

"Nero 8"
Super easy to use, quality as good as the original, it's really worthy! Go for it, I recommend.

"Does the job"
I installed this on a new computer running Vista. I read some of the horror stories of other reviewers who tried to upgrade older versions of Nero with Nero 8. I had no problems at all. Program installed perfectly and works as advertised. I believe it is the best product of it's kind.

"A must upgrade for windows vista"
This product works very well. I have the tv card so most of the features are used, video editing seems to ber very easy. I upgraded to version 8 from version 5

What our customer's say!

"Excellent after tough beginning", Installation a little slow, but not too bad. All I wanted to do was copy some files to DVDs to transfer to new computer. Sounds easy right?
Quickly got to BackItUp. Hoping to just ease my way through without having to study a manual. They have impressive tutorials for other tasks, not data back up. After fumbling around for about 15 minutes, I went online & printed 63 pages describing how to do it. The printed info doesn't match reality, but close enough to do the copy, by page 13.

It seems OK, but won't know until I try to unzip files on my new computer (arriving in about an hour I hope). They presumably let you not compress files (my preference), but the default is to compress, and the line is "greyed" out.

So, I called their tech support. After 3 minutes, at $1.29 per minute, he could not tell me why. He put me on hold (free) and tried it himself. His conclusion: you can only turn off the compression when backing up DRIVES, not FILES.

I agree with others that say documentation could be a lot better, but I am glad that I fought my way through the issues.

It seems to be a powerful program, and hopefully other tasks won't be so hard.

"Nero and Amazon rule", Recently purchased a new Vista equipped PC,so I had to get a new copy of Nero.Amazon shipped to me in 2 days and had a better price than anyone else. The features in Nero are better than ever, with a user configurable start page and built in PVR,and great burning features just some of the toys you have.I couldn't be happier with my order.I highly recommend Nero and Amazon in this case.

"nero", version shipped only crippled one...but price was right its only
ESSENTIALS version ;-(

"A terrible piece of software", I wish I hadn't spent the money on this. Unlike previous versions of Nero, this one is terrible. There is no way to turn off close-captioning on the NeroHome Live TV software. Controls are minimal. It spreads itself all over your machine, slowing it way down even with a careful Custom Installation.
Don't waste your money.

"64 bit Vista Compatible", Although the company that sales this product is not smart enough to list it working with 64 bit Vista, I thought I'd take a chance. Why would a company put so much effort to reduce sales? Beyond my perception. Never the less. It works seemlessly. It ran and saved all the movies I wanted that Windows Media Player would not. I would recommend this program 100%. IMHO this is, by far, the by best program for all your video production needs. I have been working with computers since 1973 and so I have a little credability. ""Nero" perfect", Just what I wanted ... packaged beautifully and quickly shipped and received !
Thank you

"Nero 8", Came in a sealed box, works just like it is supposed to, fast shipment. No problems

"Beware of Upgrades", BEWARE. This product is VERY buggy. In addition the upgrades are impossible. I purchased two months ago - and just this week did a software update. The update to download is 185 MBs - the entire program - and required three Reboots for its normal install. A full 90 minutes was required to upgrade with DSL (15 minutes to download - and 75 minutes for the incredibly slow installation and reboots). Now - if I want to use it for HD video - I have to purchase an Add-on and reinstall again. No way. In my 10 years of using computers with dozens of programs - this is the worst upgrade process I have seen.

"Nero 8 - bloated, buggy, and obnoxious", I just "upgraded" from Nero 6 to Nero 8. Big mistake. The new version is bloated, buggy, and obnoxious.

First, installation is very slow. Make sure you have a few hours free. 5-10 minutes of unpacking, 3-4 minutes of Nero's installer, and then 5 minutes or so of the Windows installer. After all those steps, it checks for any problems, like the presence of a previous version of Nero. If there's a previous version, it asks if it can uninstall it; you can only have one version at a time, and there's no going back. After the uninstall, it demands that the computer be rebooted. Then you get to do the install all over again.

Then, after the installation, if you want to burn CDs or DVDs from a non-administrator account, you have to enable Nero Burn Rights. Then you get to reboot again.

During installation, Nero tries to install some toolbar from Ask. (You know, Barry Diller's company, IAC, the one that's being broken up.) There's a checkbox to turn this off. Make sure you disable that.

Then Nero tries to become the default program for just about every audio and video filename extension known. Just turn all of those off.
Also turn off all the Nero stuff it wants to put in your toolbar.

Oh, and it tries to get you to sign up for Nero spam.

OK, now we're through installation. But we're not done yet. Nero will have installed several permanently running processes, none of which you want. There's "NMIndexStoreSvr.exe", "NMIndexingService.exe", "NBService.exe", and "IoctlSvc.exe". These have to be dealt with.

"The "NM*" processes are part of something called "Nero Scout", which is an indexing application you don't want. Under Program Files -> Nero -> Tools -> Nero Scout, there's a dialog box with a checkbox to disable Nero Scout. Use that. The useless processes will still be launched at startup, but will stop using time and disk accesses.

Actually removing the launch of those useless processes takes more work, but removal tools exist.

OK, with this turkey installed, we try to make a DVD. The application for this is called "Nero Vision". This is like a weak version of DVDit coupled to a weak version of Adobe Premiere. It's buggy; it generates DVD menus semi-automatically, but when I deleted a clip and added a new one, the menus got out of sync with the clips. And, in fact, so far every video DVD I've made will not play in a regular DVD player, although it will play on a PC.

This product has negative value. DO NOT BUY.

"More Than Just A Burning Program", Ok, I've been using Nero since it first came on to the burning scene and recently, Nero has not only been my one and only choice for burning but has made my life much more pleasant in the world of networking and digital streaming. I just picked up a D-Link digital media player because like all other hackers and downloaders, I wanted a pure and simple way to stream all of my files to my high def home system. Using Nero Home and Nero Scout, I was able to network whatever I wanted (in any music or video format that Nero would play including Blu-Ray files) directly to my home theater set up combined with my D-Link player with virtually no glitches. Two big thumbs...way up!
