Others say...
"when it works, it's great" I got this mouse when my work computer was upgraded. When it works, it's awesome. The scroll wheel is great, the side buttons launching spaces is super easy and convenient, and I love the sensitivity.
Drawbacks: I've already had to use the can o air on the scroll wheel a couple times (had the mouse for about 3 weeks). It decided to stop scrolling up one day because it was dirty I guess. Today, the side buttons have stopped working, and even after cleaning and unplugging they still won't work. So not sure what's wrong there. Also, there is apparently a 3rd mouse button (left click is 1, rt click is 2, side buttons are 4) that launches dashboard. I sometimes manage to click this 3rd button on accident, but not matter how hard I try I can't seem to find where the point on the mouse is to click it on purpose.
Final opinion: for no more than $20, I'd buy this for home. But because of these issues, I'll be sticking to my regular 'windows' bluetooth mouse for home, because this one seems to be much too moody.
"The Mighty Mouse!"
The Apple Mighty Mouse is certainly a Love it or Hate it proposition... After several months, this is still my favorite mouse! Apparently I love it.
I originally bought one for use on a PC, then eventually bought a Mac Pro which came with another.
I love the action and feel of the scroll wheel/ball .
OK, it has ONE fault, that being the scroll wheel ball gets dirty and stops working. But..... Apple has a nice tutorial on their website with a Quicktime video on "How to clean your Mighty Mouse". And it actually works! (both the cleaning procedure and the mouse)
On both Macs and PCs the "2-button" feature of this single button mouse takes a little getting used to. It seems that there is a sensor that detects if a left finger is on the mouse, so you must raise your left finger from the mouse and click it with only your right finger for a "right-click".
For those that intend to use the Mighty Mouse on a PC, you should be aware that the Mighty Mouse cord is fairly short as it is intended to plug into an Apple Keyboard USB port. There is an extender cable in the package for those that can't or won't plug it into the keyboard. In use, the mouse pointer seems to move a bit slowly on a PC. This is easily adjusted in Windows Control Panel.
"Caveat Emptor" As part of a system upgrade, I bought a tailed Mighty Mouse. My Logitech S530 mouse died and I thought that having a tailed mouse and not having to change batteries would be a good thing.
However, the implementation was not what I expected. I reaffirmed that I don't like tailed mice. The cable is always in my way. But this was a minor irritation compared to what happened after I used the mouse for few hours.
I found myself in the middle of the "jumping mouse cursor syndrome." You can read about this by conducting a web search using your favorite search engine. Apparently, there is a hardware issue associated with some Macs and this mouse. Without explanation, the mouse cursor will jump to the left and stick on the left side of the window. In my case, that's on the left monitor and a long way from where I might be working (or playing a game).
I spent some time trying to debug the issue, but found nothing that would lead me to believe there is a solution to my problem. I don't think this occurs with all combinations of Macs and Mighty Mice, but it sure did with my system. Therefore, I returned the unit and replaced it with the wireless version of the Mighty Mouse, which apparently does not suffer from this issue. My experience with another wireless Mighty Mouse and my MacBook Pro was very positive.
If you're looking for an Apple mouse, spend the extra $20 and get the wireless version of the Mighty Mouse. If the other reviews scare you off, I don't think you'll go wrong with a Logitech mouse either.
Good mouseing...
"Profoundly Flawed Design" Despite being a proud Mac user, (this hideous device came with my wonderful mac pro) the mighty mouse is a prime example of disposable electronics. I'm seconding the numerous reviews posted already concerning the deplorable, piss poor scroll ball that can be permanently disabled by even the most innocous speck of debris. The fifty @#$%ing dollar price tag is the biggest reason my normal sense of objectivity fails me completely in writing this review. My only recommendation is the Razer Pro Click 1.6, which has only mixed reviews, exposing what I feel to be a dearth of good, mac compatible multi-button mice. All I ask is that you please look elsewhere before subsidising garbage like this with your money.
"Apple Mighty Mouse review" The Apple Mighty Mouse works as advertised and the seller shipped the merchandise as promised. I am please with my shopping experience on Amazon dot com

What our customer's say!
"P!3C3 0# 5#!7", This is by far the worst computer product I own. It will fail you time and time again!!! I threw it against the wall 3 times, stomped on it, punched it, put it in a sleeper hold, and this all after it started malfunctioning on its own. Pitiful!!!
"Works very well, good ergonomics (at least for me)", I like the mouse - I have it configured as a three-button-mouse and use the scroll ball all the time. It is accurate, fits my hands well, and hasn't let me down yet (the track ball get clogged up somtimes, but so far I've always been able to get it working again by using a moist towel and rubbing the track ball back and forth really hard - it gets unclogged relatively easily that way). If it does byte the dust (mice do after some time), I will not hesitate to order another one (well, I have three already...)
"Horrible mouse", Do not be affected by the outer beauty of this mouse. It is the worst mouse I ever seen. Buttons can not be pressed together, buttons are not distinguished, so you press right button and the left get pressed instead. Imagine selecting huge piece of text and then press the right button for options, and the left got pressed and you lose all the selected text. The scroll is awful, as it simply cannot be used after few days. Cleaning it is simply impossible to do. My might mouse now lives with the mice in garbage.
"excellent design serves function without fluff", Contrary to popular cut-and-paste 'witticisms', this mouse is designed on a function-leading-form logic.
Can't find fault in this mouse, although the wireless version is a worthless and heavy device to be avoided at all costs. I use this thing all day long, every day, working with adobe products. I prefer it to 'ergonomic' designs that only allow your hand to be in one grip position. With this mouse, you can finesse it with different grips, and it weighs less - nice when brushing or moving things around rapidly.
When used with Apple's mouse control panel, you can customize or disable buttons to suit your needs. This is where most complaints are coming from - you can have two-click or one-click, and you have to know which one you are using as well as any other functions. The best thing is to turn everything off for the first day or so, then add the other functions slowly.
Final note: this mouse has teflon sliders on the bottom. The optical sensor is very sensitive. Try it out on different smooth materials. If it likes the surface, you have a great mousepad. It's best for your wrist if you get the hardest, slickest surface possible - even the actual surface of the desk will work in some cases. Once you get used to sliding this mouse around on a slick surface, you'll get in tune with an effortless way to mouse.
"Pretty but practically unusable. Go Logitech.", Eventually a mouse's scroll wheel/ball will need to be cleaned. This is a fact that every computer user on the planet understands and accepts.
Except Apple computer engineers.
You can't clean the inside of an Apple Mighty Mouse, and that's a design flaw, plain and simple. After 3-6 months of use, it will become gunked up and will stop working. Additionally, the side buttons are unusable, and my guess is that these were never properly vetted by the engineers during R&D.
This is a flawed product.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"poor performance", This mouse works well if you want a mouse that does nothing but move your pointer around the screen.
I have had this mouse for over a year and my scroll wheel stopped working ages ago. When I had my iMac in for some maintenance, I asked for a new one because I thought mine was broken because of the scroll wheel not working. They told me I just had to clean it. I have cleaned it multiple times (With a microfiber cloth and water) and it only slightly improves performance half of the time, and it only lasts for about a day. For the price of this mouse, its not worth it unless it came with your computer. Do yourself a favor and go buy some other one.
"Not so Mighty Mouse - Avoid at all costs", I am a hard core mac user and currently own 5 of them.
I have been dealing with the mighty mouse for nearly 3 years now and can honestly say that it is the worst product I have ever experienced from Apple.
I do not have a problem with the right click like many other users, but do concur that the right and left buttons are for the most part useless and are immediately disabled whenever I set up a new machine.
The thing that really kills this product for me is the scroll ball which is constantly jamming up and requires constant cleaning. It is a major annoyance. What makes it worse, for me, is that other than that one issue this would be a pretty cool little mouse.
I must concur with other users, Apple completely dropped the ball with this one. Avoid at all costs.
The only reason I am writing this review is because I have finally decided to look for a real mouse and came across the mighty mouse while browsing.
"A big disappointment ", I love apple. From their customer service, to their computers and other products (phones, software, os x, etc.) they had always provided top quality.
I just don't understand what happened here. Particularly when Apple was the innovator of providing a mouse for "computers for regular people." Not to become too historic, but its was a concept stolen from Xerox, that is known as their main innovation.
Why mention this? Because, I would think that they would know better about engineering a mouse better than Logitech or Microsoft for that matter, and they don't.
After buying this mouse, and using it for an hour, it just started to hurt my hand. The buttons are not clearly defined (left/right), you almost have to feel hard to get a right click straight. The top of the mouse looks like it depends on the uneven force that you give it. This is something different, but not particularly good for me. The top wheel/ball is susceptible to dirt, and as I read reviews lead to stop working.
Perhaps I got used to good ergonomics in mice, because this one did not feel comfortable.
Also, the basic optical logitech, that you can get at any STAPLES for about $15 to $19 has more functions, is more comfortable and I believe that its 1000 dpi tacking is above this possible 800 dpi at best.
But, don't take my word for it; read other reviews, or better yet, buy it from apple, but don't throw away any of the packaging. This way you can return it like I did, if you reach the same conclusions.
My advise, go for a good Logitech or Microsoft. They seemed to know how to build a good mouse. Unfortunately, this one may look good, but it just doesn't feel right, or work right, or is priced right. . .
"THE MOUSE ENTERS THE MAZE . . .", . . . but does it get out? We'll see after I point out the pros and cons:
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: To be honest, I did not like the Mighty Mouse when I first tried it out. It felt like there was some sort of learning curve one had to get through before getting comfortable with it. I actually remember switching back to a "normal" Logitech mouse a few times simply because I had such a hard time getting used to the Mighty Mouse scroll ball and everything else.
PROS: As it turns out, after using the Mighty Mouse for a month or two, I actually like the scroll ball and I haven't had any problems with it getting unresponsive. Will definitely try the paper trick mentioned elsewhere if that does happen. The side buttons are great for the Expose feature, even though I don't use it that much. I also like the size of the mouse--smaller than a normal mouse and larger than a "wimp mouse" (those little micro mice you see for laptops). The small cable (~2 feet) is also nice. Call me old-fashioned, but I like my electronics with the cable still attached. You can't have a mouse without a tail, right?
CONS: Not many, but I do think it is a bit tedious having to make sure that you press on the outside-most part of the mouse to guarantee a left- or right-click. If you touch anywhere near the scroll ball there is no telling what might happen. For this same reason I would not use this mouse for gaming.
DOES THE MIGHTY MOUSE GET OUT OF THE MAZE?: Yes, but not without getting a little lost.
"Other reviews are dated", Apple must have changed the design of the mighty mouse. The one I received is an optical mouse so there is no problem with a ball getting dirty because it doesn't have one. All the other buttons work well and I would recommend this to anyone in the market for a new mouse. Anyone complaining about the ball getting dirty must have an old version.
