What our customer's say!
"My wife said it best...", As soon as I started typing on it, before she had even seen it, she said, "I love that keyboard." You see, I have a small desk right next to our bed where I do most of my work, and the quiet, almost muted, tapping of this keyboard was a welcome change to the default keyboard on my PowerBook G4 or the usb keyboard I used previously.
Then, of course, there is the beautiful form factor of this thing... it is simply a work of minimalist art that I enjoy seeing on my desk. It takes up so little room compared to other models.
My only constructive comment is that I would prefer an option for the new black keys that are on all of the Apple MacBooks that just came out. I am wondering how long these white keys will stay looking nice.
If you absolutely need a number pad and could not live without one, this is obviously not the keyboard for you. Otherwise, look no further. This is the best keyboard for your Mac.
"Great keyboard... But where's the keypad?", I owned this keyboard for a short while before switching to the wired version. Why? Because this wireless version, as you may see, has no keypad. That's a hard thing to get used to for a desktop computer. I'd find myself reaching to enter numbers and hitting table... So I had to give up.
But that is the ONLY negative about this keyboard. The style is awesome. Once you're used to typing on the chiclet keys, you won't want to use a chunky keyboard anymore. It's quiet (no key click) and VERY responsive... But smart. For example, if you accidentally tap the "Caps Lock" key for a split second, it won't engage. It only engages if you press it with intent. I think it's timed, but maybe it's based on pressure. Either way, you'll not likely hit the caps lock and ACCIDENTALLY TYPE IN ALL CAPS like with other keyboards. As far as I know, some of the other more sensitive keys have the same feature.
And the F-keys are all set up for Mac users. Sure, you can use this in Windows, and it's great, but for Mac users we get the controls for Expose, Dashboard, brightness, media controls, volume, and eject. Want the F-keys to work like normal? Hit the "fn" key.
The aluminum feel is nice and solid. It's easy to clean, and doesn't seem to trap as much gunk as fatter, taller keys do.
Finally, it's wireless. Bluetooth, in fact. Once you've paired it with your Mac, it's THERE. No problems with wireless receivers or dropped signals. Apple's Bluetooth tech is strong.
Seriously, once you use this keyboard you'll wonder why older keyboards feel like they were designed by mental patients seeking to frustrate you. This keyboard is what keyboards should ALWAYS have felt like, but I guess the old ones were trying to mimic typewriters and ended up with something clunky and fat. Leave it to Apple to build a better keyboard for the 21st century.
If you're used to the keypad and just can't break that habit, then get the wired version. It's every bit as nice, and comes with a generous amount of USB cable (as well as having USB ports on it). Otherwise, if you can go wireless, then why not grab the smaller, sleeker model?
"Another Great Apple Product", I mostly work with a desktop Mac, but more and more I use my laptop in another room of the house as my get-away office.
I use a laptop risier and a full size keyboard. Needless to say, the full size keyboard and the cables with and mouse were a real mess and take up a lot of room.
The new wireless keyboard is great, not only in helping me to eliminate clutter, but it's lightweight and travels well.
I don't really need an extended keyboard and for surfing and emailing it works great. As with other Apple products, the setup was easy.
The wireless keyboard is the same size as my Apple PowerBook, so the keyboard is not full size, which is not good if you are doing a LOT of writing or typing, but as I said before, for light-duty work it's great.
I wasn't sure how long the batteries would last, but so far so good. I purchased the keyboard before going on vacation and it has gotten a couple of hours a day usage. I suspect the device is shutting off when not in use, so I expect to get a lot of hours out of the original set of batteries (which are AAs).
Next, I plan to replace my USB mouse so I can have more room on my desk area.
"Good stuff", I've been using the Logitech S530 pair for several years. I bought one right after getting my first MacBook Pro. I use my notebook as a desktop replacement at the office (working in a Winder$ environment) and don't like the MBP's keyboard -- the touch isn't right my my typing.
I bought one of these wireless keyboards after seeing a colleague use one. It was small, sleek, and provided a better touch than the built-in keyboard on my MacBook Pro. The clincher for me was that the keyboard is small enough to stow in my backpack to take with me to the office or when traveling. As I said, I really don't care for the touch of the MBP's keyboard, so that is a boon.
The keyboard is what I expect from a keyboard. The keystroke is long enough to provide positive feedback but not so long as to slow me down. The tactile response is good. The keyboard stays in place and is angled about right for me. While not heavy, it is substantial and feels solid -- like it will last a long time. The keys feel pretty good and the home row is easy to find thanks to the raised bars on the "F" and "J" keys. (My fingers naturally look for those touch points.)
When first connected to my MBP, the system-updater downloaded and installed a firmware upgrade to the keyboard. I like how that works.
The function keys take a little getting used to. By default, they operate the various functions of the computer -- screen brightness, dashboard, iTunes playback, and so forth. Access the the function keys requires pressing the "Fn" key. (Don't tempt me to pun on that!) This behavior (use of the Fn key) is changeable in system preferences.
We'll have to see about reliability, but I expect this keyboard to last quite awhile. I use a keyboard almost constantly, both at work and play, so my equipment gets a lot of use.
If you're looking for what appears to be a high-quality keyboard that is Bluetooth wireless, small enough to carry in your backpack, and has a good touch, then you should try the Apple Wireless Aluminum keyboard. I'm very pleased with mine, especially when working with the MBP remotely.
"An Outstanding Bluetooth Keyboard!", This is, by a wide margin, the best bluetooth keyboard I've ever used. I used to work for the business division of a major electronics chain where I've used and sold many wireless keyboards. I can honestly say that this keyboard outshines many of its competitors.
First, the small design is a definite plus, not a flaw. I have big hands and I was a bit worried that it would feel small and cramped, but my worries were proven false. It's a lot more durable than it looks, too. The keys feel strong, crisp, and responsive, and they don't get all loose and noisy over time like most keyboards do. For some reason other brands (like MS) seem to think that their keyboard isn't worthwhile unless it takes up as much desk real estate as possible, which just isn't practical. Just make sure you know what you're getting - take a good look at what keys are and aren't present. If you're trying to write code or do lots of calculations, this probably isn't your keyboard.
Secondly, the battery life is amazing. I bought this back in May 08. Today is September 22 and I only just replaced (today) the first set of batteries. I do regular internet stuff, plus a casual amount of gaming. I also never actually turn the thing off.
Lastly, the bluetooth connectivity is very strong and resilient. I have never lost a connection after 5 months of use - it's never even missed a single keystroke. Plus, Software Update actually updates the firmware ON THE KEYBOARD ITSELF, ensuring maximum product performance and use. This alone is a major plus!
Something to note - this keyboard does indeed work with Windows via bootcamp and Parallels (I use both). I paired the keyboard securely with Mac OS, but if you plan to use bootcamp you might have to pair it without a security key in Windows. Since I use Mac OS for anything critical, this is a non-issue for me. The keyboard automatically just connects and starts working with either OS. You could just as easily make Windows the secure connection. I haven't tried this, but I'd imagine that if you securely pair the keyboard in both OS's, you'd have to re-pair it each time you switch. In Parallels, however, it works right away without any additional setup.
This is a strong, practical, durable product. Now if only they could redesign that darn mouse...

"Great keyboard design", Incredibly compact, easy to setup and solidly built.
I use this keyboard with my MacBook and it's great. It has the most "solid" feel of any keyboard I've ever used and the very short stroke (keypress depth) makes typing fast easier. Just a great product.
Only two minor issues: the white keys are obviously going to get dirty faster than my laptop's black keyboard (I wish there was a black version of this keyboard) and they changed the order of the special function keys from the Macbook (plus eliminated a few like being able to use the F8 key for the Spaces utility.)
"My favorite desktop keyboard", I received this keyboard as a gift to replace the old white Apple USB Keyboard that came with my 2006 iMac, and I've got to tell you, I was overjoyed to get it! My old Apple USB Keyboard had become gummy and difficult to type on, even after key removal/cleaning and using a silicone-based lubricant on each of the keys.
Thoughts: (1) My fingers kept sliding off of the proper keys for a while when I first got it; the keys themselves are flat and lacking in the depressions common to other keyboards. After a few days, I got used to this, though, so it hasn't been a problem since.
(2) The travel distance of the keys is everything that you would expect from a desktop keyboard based on one from a laptop. Keys are quick to respond, and for me at least, they make typing a breeze. I shudder when I have to use long-throw keyboards on other computers.
(3) As with many of the devices that Apple sells, this keyboard is great to look at. I particularly appreciate the way that the AA battery chamber is used to prop up the keyboard at a comfortable typing angle.
(4) Paired with my iMac (in both OS X and Windows XP), this keyboard has no discernible lag time between when a key is pressed and when it registers on the screen. Also, it works well even from across the room (unlike some Bluetooth input devices).
(5) This keyboard is small enough to be used with a portable device like a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. I paired it with my 770 running OS2006 (I think), and it worked just fine. It was not easily recognized by OS2007 (Hacker Edition), however.
(6) In Windows XP, I used to have a problem where the keyboard would freeze (that is, no longer transmit user input to the computer) if I (accidentally) engaged the caps lock key. This wasn't a huge deal to me because I almost never use caps lock for anything, and after an Windows update, the problem went away.
(7) Battery life seems to be fine to me. I have a set of quickly-recharging Ni-MH Energizer AAs that I use, and I really can't complain. I can't remember the last time that I charged the batteries.
(8) My biggest complaint with this keyboard is actually quite minor: the small picture on the F3 key is intended to indicate that when pressed, this button will activate the Exposé mode that shows you all of the current windows in the Space. However, to my mind, the button bears a decidedly striking resemblance to how my *Dashboard* looks when invoked, so whenever I stop and think about which button to press, I almost always hit F3 instead of F4 to trigger my dashboard. I am fully aware that I have complete control in remapping this key so that it makes sense to me, but for some reason, I've never decided to do that.
I would recommend this keyboard to anyone who enjoys typing on laptop keyboards. If you're considering a migration away from a IBM M-series keyboard, this one may not be for you. ;)
"Fantastic Keyboard", Yes I've gone Mac, and I went all the way! I purchased the Mac Mini and after exhaustive research came to the conclusion that it was only fitting that I purchased the keyboard. Absolutely no regrets it is so easy to use has the right touch it's a masterpiece of craftsmanship love the white keys when you're typing only by the light of your monitor.
I'm using it to type this review. So far everything i've read and was told in this venture into the Mac world and way of doing things has proven to be one of the best things in our world of technology that i've ever experienced!!
Try a Mac soon you will see! Amazon's fast and easy shipping made it all worth while to boot! As i said no regrets!!
"Yes!! It does work with Windows Vista!!", I had bought this keyboard several weeks ago but hadn't opened it because I wasn't sure if it would work on a PC. After searching the reviews and forums I still wasn't that sure. I found a couple of posts saying it would but I thought I'd find a lot more people talking about it. I finally decided to just give it a try. I put in the batteries, turned it on and selected "add a new bluetooth device" from the Windows Vista taskbar. It was instantly able to see it, create a passcode for it and once I entered that same passcode and pressed enter on the keyboard, Vista installed the software automatically, then I was off typing. As far as the keyboard itself goes, I agree with almost all of the other reviewers, it's awesome!!
"works well & looks beautiful. a rarity. ", after a few month's use, here is my impression: (+) seamless syncing with Leopard / Tiger / Vista. (+) beautiful industrial design. very durable (dropped a few times with no hiccups). (+) works great. excellent tactile feedback. feel really nice under your fingers. actually better than Macbook & Macbook Pro keyboard in my opinion. (+) very small (same layout/size as Macbook). save space on your desk. (+) no problem with lack of numerical keypad. no use for it anyway unless you're an accountant.
this is a very nice keyboard, much better than the others that I have been using. wireless bluetooth connectivity is very nice.
