"Olympus Stylus 830" Easy to carry and use, but many features of larger Olympus cameras, such as available light and over a dozen other mode settings. It has the advantage for someone with another Olympus camera of using the same memory card. It fits in a pocket or purse, yet delivers excellent quality pictures. The telephoto includes optical zoom and the stabilization allows me to take pictures in a variety of conditions. The view screen is bright and clear. All in all, it is a good point and shoot camera; in fact, I bought a second as a graduation gift. Makes a good combination with a larger camera, especially another Olympus.
"Love This Camera!" This camera has a lot of the same items as our old Olympus - but is even better. Bigger screen, the style is easy to carry, and it takes great pictures. My child just graduated preschool and the "videos" are great!
"Very Disappointing" First, let me say that I am a completely casual camera user. By no means do I have high expectations. I bought this camera because I work with dogs and I like to take pictures of them for my website. Dogs, as you may know, are very difficult to photograph because they cannot stay still unless they are pretty much sleeping (kids, and other living things, can be the same) and most pictures come out blurry (unless you use the flash, which distorts colors and causes redeye).
With my former digital camera, a 2002 Fujifilm Finepix, all my photos were either (A) very blurry, unusable pictures of dogs doing interesting things (B) less blurry pictures of dogs sleeping-or close to sleeping (C) clear, but flash-distorted and red-eyed pictures of dogs in action.
This was getting very boring, so I began the search for a camera with anti-blur (sans flash) options. The Olympus 830 got great (too good to be true) reviews, had anti-camera shake options and boasted high ISO for capturing objects in motion. I spent weeks searching, and I couldn't find a camera with better reviews and such a seemingly high probablity of great, blur free photos.
Well, I ordered it, and here's what I found.
-If you set the ISO to 800 or higher, you will most likely get a blur-free photo, even if the subject is moving.
-HOWEVER any ISO setting above 100 will distort dark colors with horrendous noise (pinks and purples, oranges and blues... awful! I will post examples). I didn't know what noise WAS before I got this camera!
-If you set the ISO to anything less than 200 and you are photographing anything other than inanimate objects like statues and chairs, you WILL 90% of the time get a blurry photo, even with all the anti-shake, anti-blur settings turned on.
Basically, it's possible to get a blur free photo with this camera, but the tradeoff if you get a terribly colored photo with ill-defined lines and an overall image quality that's worse than the cheapest cameras on the market. Why didn't anybody mention this in the reviews? It's very noticeably bad. You don't need to be anything close to an expert to pick up on it.
I guess the camera takes good macro shots. If you're looking to take lots of pictures of flowers really close up, it might be a good camera. If you want to take a picture of anything that moves, look elsewhere.
"Want Something Easy - Here It Is...." I bought this because I really needed a small camera to carry around. I have larger ones but they always seem to end up staying home because nobody (including me) wants to carry them around and I was really nervous that this was going to be another crappy camera, I already gave my nieces and nephews the old crappy ones to play with. But after I started to use this it was very easy to operate and to find your way around thru it's options - The camera is small and easy to carry around in your pocket or purse. The Zoom is good as well and when printing it is very clear I was really surprised at how clear. The only thing I have bad to say is the night shots no matter how you set them in the camera don't come out clear. and the camera resets itself when you turn it off, and that can be a pain sometimes. but all in all I am very pleased and glad that I took the chance and bought this camera, it is a very good non-professional camera
"Waste of Money- not worth the trouble" I got an Olympus digital camera when i was 13 for my birthday. I was so excited, it was awesome! However, two days after purchase, we had to return the camera because the shutter wouldn't open. They sent us back another new one, and everything was fine. A couple weeks after the new camera came, it once again started acting up. At first random pictures wouldn't transfer to my computer. Soon the camera, upon being turned on, would refuse to take picture, and just asked if i wanted to delete all of my pictures. When i pressed no, it would turn off. Buying that camera was a waste of money. Another con is that the sound on the videos didn't work, i was only able to take silent movies. I have never gotten anything else from Olympus, and never plan to again. It was all one big nightmare.

What our customer's say!
"Great Overall Camera", This camera is a great balance of high quality pictures, zoom, price, size, and durability. As seen in the pics at Disneyland and California Adventures, it takes excellent pictures that capture sharp details. The camera also suffered a drop during this trip, and the fall didn't phase it at all. Another selling point for me was that it's weather-proof and that a rechargeable battery is included. You don't have to worry about precipitation spoiling the camera or buying batteries/rechargeable battery kit. The only downside to this camera was that I had to buy the memory card separately (but that would have had to happen with any other camera, as I found in my research - I recommend the 2GB...nearly 500 pics on super high quality!). This camera is the total package and I highly recommend it!
"EXCELLENT COMPACT DIGITAL", Ok i read reviews about this product and the nikon cool pix. I own a large SLR Nikon D80. I ave shot with a small canon powershot for years. I started in manual 35 mm. This camera is great. I was happy for years with the photo quality of my Canon , as well with their software and support. It was an early model and slow. I am learning my big Nikon D80 and for its money i am sure it can do loads of brilliant things, still not terribly active with it and disappointed in Nikons Web support and image quality sometimes. As i said it may be i haven't unlocked its potential but small reservations along with reviews led me to be suspect of going with Nikon on my new compact digital. A friend suggested olympus, i saw some of her photos from a very basic and older model and the color was amazing...stil hesitant to go with a manufacture i never handled, the reviews seemed positive and the photos i had seen were proof. I bought this model and almost everything is perfect. - It SHoots very large format photos for later processing. -Adjusts quickly, -the flash photograpy retains the color you were looking for in the first place - preset modes, menus and choices are fully functional and usable as tools. -enough manual adjustment and preview mode to real have some flexibility in creating the right look in the photo. -menu was easy to learn -though i have photoshop, its own software program seems very straight forward and functional. -movie mode -panorama -they don't really explain enough about it various features and settings in the product description. Cons are: it only has the digital viewer, no physical view finder. ie you find yourself shading it in bright light to see what you are trying to photo. not a problem for me though, everything else is too nice -as well they use the their own media type exclusive to Olympus. I got over that too! Great buy you won't be disappointed
"Best camera I have had so far.", The Olympus Stylus 830 is the best camera I have ever used. It even shoots under water. Amazing. I shoot in all types of weather without a problem.
"Excellent choice", An excellent choice for very good price. Very simple to manage it almost able without reading manual. Worldwide warranty included. Pictures are very good. Not sturdy. I like it.
"Grainy Pictures!", I bought this camera after doing plenty of research and previously owning an Olympus camera. Well, it seems the 5 year old Olympus worked better than this one.
I hate this camera! If you are shooting outdoors with plenty of light or macro pictures, your shots will probably come out alright.
Any pictures I have taken indoors, in low light with a flash come out looking grainy, and several look blurry, even though I have image stabilizer turned on. The image stabilizer doesn't appear to do anything.
The zoom is also horrible, and all the picture I have used zoom on have turned out grainy.
I'm very disappointed, especially considering I paid [...] for this camera. I think I'm going to buy a Canon to replace it.

"Nice look and features but makes noises", okay so i have concern. With this camera when i have the stabilizer on and i take a picture it makes a weird noise. Is it my camera or is it supposed to make a weird sound. If anyone knows PLEASE RESPOND BACK TO THIS MESSAGE.
Over all.. it takes really nice and clear pictures and i like the features, i just don't how to use them yet.
"Nice picture quality", I'm no camera expert or even an experienced photographer but I am so happy with this camera. It is compact and easy to use and I think that it takes really nice pictures. The only suggestion I would make to the manufacturers is that the menu setup took a little getting used to and could probably be simplified. Overall I love the ease of use, picture quality and the orange color I chose!
"wonderful camera", I am brand new @ digital cameras,a friend of mine helped me shop for it and I just love it!!! I did not even have to read the directions. Its easy to use.
"Very Pleased", Does exactly what I wanted the camera for. It is small enough that I carry it in my purse so when I want a picture of one of my grandchildren I have it handy. The color is great and clarity is very good.
"Great Cam", Love this camera. This is my second Olympus. Very happy with it so far. Easy to use, great features, awesome clarity in the pics. Kept my first for over 3 yrs, my dad wants it so had to buy a new one.
