"A Must Have!!" You will never go back after using this device. Imagine looking out your aircraft window at your engine--you will have views you never dreamed of w/o this device. There is a short learning cure--really just getting used to it after using your hat switch for so long. If you love Microsoft FSX you will love this. It's very easy to load and set-up. I will warn you though--to run any FS well you have to have a powerful computer/video card to make it all run smoothly and realisticly..DIDO for the TrackIR.
"Graet idea, exelent product" About 5 years ago, when i jumped into the world of flight simulator after a real world Cessna 182 flight, and getting to know the many different controllers and devices available, i made myself a little wish list, first i purchased the Ch flightstick, just to make sure i'm really into pc flying, 2 month after that the CH yoke came, then the pedals. since then I wandered how and if a track ir system can help, but it never reached the top of my holyday gadget list, until 2 weeks ago when i ordered one. It arrived promptly and after unpacking i first installed the drivers(as some advised on other amazon reviews) then connected the Track IR 4 Pro Ultra and the head-set attachment to the computer's USB 2 input . both the wired and the unwiered head gears are working great, much better then i imagined. if you like to sim i warmly recommend this device but only after you get yourself the ch yoke or a good joystick and the pedals. check for track ir on youtube, some of these videos helped me make the decision. I'm going to fly now, have a great new year.
"Cheap Track Clip Pro!" Ok I had to give this one 3 Stars...The entire idea is really cool...if you want realism or your into video making it takes it to a whole new level...Butttt....that stupid cheap clip that came with it for $40 bucks extra was a real waste of production...When I first got mine it came broken in the box and was completely useless. But all in all its a really cool thing to have trust me just dont waste any money on that stupid clip.
"Amazing. A must have!" TrackIR is designed mostly for simming, rather than action games, where your view and weapons contol are integrated in the mouse and work just fine as-is.
Now, speaking about simulation... There it makes a difference like a night & day: by naturally moving your head around, the view changes accordingly: you have infinitely fine control over the view of the cockpit and outside. Forget POV hat, Active camera or anything else: this is the way simulation is meant to be. Words cannot do it justice, you need to *experience* it. You owe it to yourself to at least try it out and then decide if it's worth it. I doubt you'll ever go back. TrackIR might be a bit expensive, but it's one of the best investments you'll ever make in the field of simulation, together with a joystick and a throttle. Yes, it's that revolutionary. Enough said.
It might be a little tricky to set up, but nothing too difficult. It is actually very simple, just make sure you enable trackIR Pro instead of vector tracking in the "profiles" on the TrackIR applet. Yes, it caused a couple of 'blue screens' and reboots on few rare occasions when starting trackIR applet (never in flight). But even with that, I give it an absolute 5 star.
"Cool, but..." OK, if you had this thing working from the beginning, it would easily be 4 stars. But because there's a critical piece of information required to ever work, it gets 2 stars!
If you connect this device into your PC, *once*, before installing the drivers (think plug-and-play), it will *not* work, possibly ever. Despite help from their tech support, and more reboots than you can imagine, I finally got this working by going to another PC, installing the software there, and then checking all the registery changes. Then manually redoing the ones in my gaming PC. After that, it is really cool. Flight Sim X and Combat Flight Sim are mega cool - I thought they would be and hence my extraordinary effort to get it working.
You can check the forums and see there's a bunch of dummies stuck in the penalty box for the same reason.
Do yourself a favor and install the SW before getting that cable anywhere near your USB hub. Hopefully they'll make a robust software installer someday.
Here's what it's like - turn your head a little, the view (on Flight Sim X which has builtin support) turns a little. Turn a lot, but not so much that you're looking out the corners of your eyes, and get the view behind you! Way cool. In fact, I can tilt my head, move my head in close to the instrument gauge, or lift my head to see over the plane cowling and it's just like being in the there. No more fumbling with a "hat" switch to pan around. It took me no time to get coordinated with the controller (ha - I already know how to move my head to look around!).
I have not tried this in any shooting games. I think it would require a bit more effort to sync up the direction you're looking with the one you're moving.

What our customer's say!
"Its ok", The product is cheaply packaged, I suspect it was opened at one point, but the device works so I didn't follow it up with amazon.
It works as described but it didn't increase my immersion. Probably because I have trained myself to use the fixed pov.
It could have included a video instruction regarding setting up the tracking LED (the thing costs 200 bucks). Through trial and error I figured out that the LED should match the contours of your face. In the manual it looks as if it should contour your headphones.
It does not work in natural lit rooms, I have a skylight and I can't play in the day because the room is flooded by UV and it make the tracker go nuts.
All in all pretty pricy add on. The immersion requires a little bit of getting used to. The hot keys should have been better chosen, it replaced my F12 external camera in FSX, so when I pressed F12 expecting the camera to switch, it actually disabled the irtracker. Took me a good while to figure out that the product was not going crazy, just that it replaced a functionality that I was used to.
"A must have for combat flight sims", I fly IL-2 on full realism settings. I could never work the HAT switch well enough while in a dogfight to keep my eyes on what I really needed to see and really enjoy the experience. The view "movements" were always jerky and un-natural.
The huge benefit is what this hardware can do for your dogfighting performance! You can keep your eye on the bogey. "Its the one that you don't see that gets you." The immersion into the virtual flight enviroment is taken to a whole new level. The only thing missing is actually feeling the G-forces as you push the envelope.
I didn't have the problem with installing the hardware or software. Its just the way I think - why install the hardware b4 the software? The Pro-clip is fragile as mentioned by others. I've had the system for almost a year now without breaking it. I take care when putting on my headset and my headset is suspended on a cradle when stored so that helps. I imagine that there will come a day when it will need to be replaced. Given how much I like the system, I'll do it without a second thought.
One small annoyance that I have found is the effect of sunlight or glare on the camera of the Trakir. There is a light filtering tool to be used in the software, but you may find that the blinds/curtains need to be closed while the trakir is in use. It took me awhile to figure that out, but I can deal with it now that I know.
The Trakir was a good investment. I can't fly without it.
"Kinda disappointed", I've had TrackIR Pro for about a week now and have pretty mixed feelings about it. I play two flight sims, Aces High and FSX. I've given up on Aces High with the TrackIR, but still use it with FSX.
I'm not a young man anymore, 47 years old. I fly a sortie or two in Aces High with the TrackIR and can't even stand up. For me, it is too disorentating to use with a combat flight sim. I have no problems with something a little calmer like FSX. I do experience a small frame rate loss with the TrackIR in FSX.
Pay attention to what another reviewer said about installation. Software first! The system is easy to use. The hardware does seem a little cheesy. The parts are small and fragile. I would not recommend this for anyone who will not be very carefull with it. It would not take much abuse to damage something.
"Tech support could not help so I returned TrackIR4", I am using a DELL XPS-710 Desk top with Nvidia 8800GTX. I was advised by NaturalPoint support to move from the front USB to a rear USB port. When I did this, The tracker will not run on my system any longer. I even had help from Dell but no use. NaturalPoint Tech support advised that I might be able to continue to use the tracker if I did a new complete re-install of system/windows on my new Dell. I declined to go through all that due to the fact that everything was tweaked perfectly for all my other itmes. I enjoyed it while it worked, but had to spend time tweaking it every time I used it. I liked the headset clip best, but did not like having to use the headset to use the clip. Hat is worse, too hot while in doors. This item needs more work by inventors. It needs Better support/fixes for problems like mine. Great idea, but very expensive for what you actually get as far as quality goes. Software needs a lot of work to make it more stable. Do not move USB plug once installed! I will buy the next item I find like it. Being able to look back and around left or right while in a flight sim, with a single screen, is absolutly the best! Can't wait for the future and new ideas for flight simulators!
"Excellent for Flight Simulator", While it takes a little getting used to, It provides a very realistic experience for anyone who uses Flight Simulator. Looking around the cockpit becomes very natural.
I found it easy to set up and adjust to my liking.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Great function, cheaply built", The TrackIR is an awesome toy, a must have for any serious gamer who even occasionally plays flight games, racing games, or first-person shooters. The immersion level that TrackIR provides simply has to be seen to be believed.
$180 to $200 for a setup is way too expensive though, especially once you see the unit. Cheap plastic, limited view, and a chinzy metal bracket you have to pin onto your own hat don't add up to $180 worth. The first time I ordered my TrackIR it came with a broken tracking clip (the TrackIR Pro Clip has IR leds and attaches to your headset to track your motion, instead of requiring you to wear a hat). A close look revealed why: super thin plastic and a poor mating design guarantees that even a mild jostle or jolt will result in catastrophic and irreparable damage. For $180, one would expect a much more robust design. Imagine a joystick that snaps in half if you lay it on it's side. Now imagine paying $180 for that joystick. Feel the pain? Luckily, Amazon is awesome about returns and I had my new (and complete!) TrackIR in about a week. Way to go, Amazon!
There's no real documentation, just a quick-start guide, but you don't need any. TrackIR works great literally right out of the box with a number of games. Once you get pro you can tweak all you want, but you'll be going to forums for that info anyways, not a user's manual.
All that said, the enhancement to gameplay that TrackIR brings is unique and will change the way you play these genre of games. Maybe it makes up for the extremely poor quality parts, I dunno. I can't live without mine now, but I am terrified that I'll breathe wrong and break the thing again.
"Incredible. I don't know how I played Falcon 4.0 AF without this.", I admit, I was a bit skeptical at first. I'm a long time Falcon 4.0 AF player and I considered myself pretty good. I'm so glad I decided to give this a try. It makes a HUGE difference in game play. I can effortlessly look over my shoulder or check gauges with the slightest head movement. Very, very cool; almost scary how quick it is.
Pros:
- It changes the way you play; in a very good way. - It is surprisingly natural. - Install is a breeze. Quick start guide breaks it down to five easy steps. - The TrackIR software is straightforward. It stores all your profiles and runs in the background. Be sure to check out the View -> Heads portion of the program. It gives you an idea what your in-game head will do when you move your real-life head; very cool. - Comes with two great/full games. Wings of Victory II is outstanding and rFactor is a solid and very realistic racing SIM.
Cons:
- You have to wear a hat or a headset so you can attach the tracker. I typically do not wear either during game play so it was a bit odd playing in a ball cap. I have not tried the included TrackClip Pro for use with a headset. - Lights on the IR sensor. Not a big deal and they are not overly-bright. I just prefer zero distractions near the screen. - XP does warn you about the drivers not being certified. No biggie. Everything works as it should.
I snapped a few photos with my camera phone. I've uploaded them into the customer gallery. Enjoy and get yourself this now!
