"Good game"
Good game. I enjoyed it. It took me about four weeks to beat. There seemed to be annoying buggy parts in certain points of the game, however I feel it was work the cost of buying it.

"Simply Amazing"
I had so much fun with oblivion and this is even better, I have put it so many hours and I'm still having fun with it. I've beaten the game and am going back for another play through. The game play is awesome, I like how you can have combat like a role playing game or you can play it like a fps its up to you. I would recommend this game to anyone.

"Meh."
I was expecting A LOT out of this game. Well that was not the case. The concept is great but the execution is a bomb. This game was released with BUGS and a ton of them. I can't even explain how many times I wasted so much time doing something to get stuck in a stupid little crevice so I have to reload my last save and do it ALL OVER AGAIN!!! Ugh annoying and a big time waster. There are not that many side missions in this compared to oblivion. The two and only two things going for this game is the V.A.T.S system and the multiple dialogue options. That's about it. I really have no reason to replay this game besides the fact that if you decide to finish a mission one way you could miss out on other missions that will give you achievement points. The only way to get the achievement is to start over.

"Fantastic"
A wonderful game with a broad vision and open ended exploration based game play. This game is the natural evolution of the console rpg experience.

"Dark, sarcastic, humorous, worth playing, not a revolutionary leap in gaming"
I wouldn't call myself 'a gamer' but it just happens that I played the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition last year and I enjoyed it immensely. Once there was little left to explore in the world of Cyrodiil and the Shivering Isles got fully mapped and pacified the wait began for Fallout 3. I am still hoping for a 'Scrolls of the Elders V' installment some day but, Fallout was what was in the pipeline so all I could do was hope for something wonderful to come out from the geniuses at Bethesda. I will first list my impressions of the game, so far.

The game engine:
-----------------
Technically, Fallout 3 inherits a lot from Oblivion. Sure, the landscape is very different but you can do in Fallout just about the kind of things that you could do in Oblivion: walk, run, be stealthy, pick up things, drop them, throw missiles, engage in hand to hand combat, have conversations with the inhabitants and pick up your replies from a a list of possible answers, use potions to heal, be nice to other people and trade or make friends or be nasty and steal and so on. Like in Oblivion, you can fast-travel to locations you've discovered for as long as enemies aren't too close, you can sleep in a bed to regain your strength and heal you wounds, you can get sick and your sickness can be cured. Like in Oblivion, the game can be a series of quests or you can walk the land and live off the land if you don't feel like doing what others ask you to do. You develop certain skills but the skills engine is a bit different - you can pick the skills you wish to develop as you level up and, unlike Oblivion, you won't become a better athlete if you keep jumping up and down one thousand times.

New in Fallout is the V.A.T.S. system that allows you to stop time and pick up specific body parts to hit when in combat. It's not so bad and, from time to time, you get to see pretty good slow-motion shots of your enemy's head exploding, jets of dark blood coming out of his neck. It's fun and it's preferable to real time shooting when you're a little short on ammo.

The Pip-Boy device is nice but it's just a streamlined version of any RPG's status/inventory facility. It does allow you to listen to the radio but, after a little playing with the radio on, I learned that listening to the radio while on a mission can be VERY dangerous to your character's health as you can't hear the bad guys approaching and they CAN hear you, loud and clear, from quite a distance.

Building your character:
-----------------
Also like in Oblivion, your past actions have future consequences and this begins shortly after your 'birth'. You have the ability to design your good looks, move 'points' around to enhance or diminish certain attributes, pick 'perks' and distribute experience points as you level up. Again, like in Oblivion, your skills can be enhanced by reading 'skills books' and you can be trained if you find someone willing to do it.

The story line:
-----------------
It's quite simple and it's basically 'find your daddy', following some disturbance inside the completely insulated 'vault' where you spent your entire life up to that point. Your father breaks out and your first quest is for you to escape as well and then try to figure out the world outside. Well... it's not exactly pretty. A couple hundred years post nuclear Armageddon, people in the Washington, D.C. area struggle to survive and stay away from mutants, bandits, crazies or political opportunists. The only way to gather information about your father is to do others small favors in exchange for information and you need to keep yourself healthy, fit and well-armed while at it. You fight the bad guys and, depending on what you want your character to be like, you could do bad things to the 'good' people too but, remember, there's a price to pay for everything.

The art:
-----------------
The word is a dull-brown-gray, slightly cartoonish version of post-nuclear D.C. You will recognize some of the 'old' buildings: the Capitol, the Washington Monument, the Air and Space Museum. You will encounter quite a variety of human characters and, up to this point, I've been interacting with a relatively large number of 'monsters', ranging from two-headed cows and fire-spewing ants to giant and relatively hard to kill mutants.

The acting:
-----------------
The voices are good but, of course, this is a game and all spoken dialog is pre-recorded and, pretty soon, you will notice that characters will keep saying the same thing, over and over. Their closeup shots of their faces are not as bad as what you had in Oblivion but, let's say that there is some room for improvement in this area. The pre-release word was that the Fallout characters were a lot more intelligent than Oblivion's. Maybe they are but most characters' phrases portfolio is not that vast and you can have encounters where one grateful character stops you to offer you profuse thanks and some small token of appreciation for what you've done and, 5 seconds after she says goodbye, if you try to talk to her again all you get is a 'leave me alone' or 'get lost' reply.

The several milestone encounters - with the head of the 'family', with Three Dog, with Dr. Lee are quite well acted.

The monsters you fight are more intelligent than Oblivion's. The more humanoid ones are capable of attacking, retreating when wounded (only to come back at you later), working together toward your defeat.

The bugs:
-----------------
And, not, I'm not talking about the fire ants. There are a few. There is the much-discussed G.O.A.T. exam glitch where you end up waiting forever for the examiner to hand you the exam papers - and I had to restart the game because of that. Then, on a couple of occasions, I found myself trapped and unable to move (load a previous save) or, after sitting on a bench, the world around turned very, very strange and the 'reload' was the only way out of that, I've met an invisible trader that I could hear but he wasn't anywhere around but, somehow, I was able to pass through his beast of burden. All minor bugs, except for the G.O.A.T. glitch.

Game's complexity:
-----------------
I can see how not everyone will agree but I found Oblivion a much more complex world. There are more attributes to tweak in Oblivion, you can pick from several races, join guilds, train and develop many skills, explore dozens of dungeons, forts, ruins, visit many villages, towns and cities, interact with more characters, operate on several realms but maybe, after only 20 hours or so of Fallout (level 7) I've only scratched the surface and, if that's the case, I will come back to this review and correct it.

The humor:
-----------------
There's as lot of it in Fallout. A lot of it is visual, three Stooges-like where you slap your enemies around and see their body parts flying. There is also some very subtle and not so subtle political humor, which I found very fascinating and quite refreshing. And, of course, it's the way characters seem to relate and react to their sordid physical surroundings which could seem 'funny' to us, since we are not 7th or 8th generation inhabitants of the post-nuclear wastelands.

Overall impression and rating:
-----------------
I like playing Fallout but mostly because Elders Scrolls V doesn't exist. It's a good, solid game with some improvements over Oblivion but, as far as I can see, lacking a lot of innovation. It's like the big automakers developing a standard chassis and then building all kinds of different models on it. Oblivion and Fallout are both built on the same chassis and it shows - the colors and the shapes may be different and there may be different options but, basically, deep down, they are family.

Compared to Oblivion, Fallout's, positive improvements are its voice acting, there's more humor, the V.A.T.S. system is a new innovation. On the lacking side, the Oblivion is a vast, colorful, hugely complex world compared to which Fallout's feels almost claustrophobic.

I am giving Fallout 3 a 4-star rating (it's really 3.5 rounded up) and I would recommend it as a 'buy' for giving us an interesting story told with more or less the same old tools when, one assumes, much better ones could have been developed.

What our customer's say!

"Storing XBox360 games on your hard drive!!!", Ditto to all the good reviews. But I would like to counter the statement that game saves are slow. If you take the time to copy the XBox 360 Game to your XBox 360 hard drive, then startup, save, and load times are incredible!

Copying the game to the drive takes time, but it makes sense for any game that you plan to play for any length of time, especially RPG's. The only caveat is that you must still have the game disk in your XBox to play the game.

"Great Game TERRIBLE Software", OK, let me start by saying this is a GREAT RPG game. You start from birth and get to customize your character to your hearts content. You also get to roam the large world freely and play in a truly non linear fashion all of which makes for a great game. There is 1 MAJOR problem with this game and it's the glitches it contains. Professional reviewers are unable to mention them as they receive pre-release copies which frequently have bugs but generally they are fixed prior to retail released. Bethesda did NOT fix some glitches prior to release that aren't simple annoyances but actually cause you to be unable to progress any further in the game. In discussing the issue with Bethesda, they are aware of these game stopping issues but basically aren't in any hurry to fix those and instead opt to wait until they can fix every minor annoyance in 1 huge patch. While every game has some level of glitches, fixing glitches that stop the game completely should be a HUGE priority in my opinion. I am sure that once a patch is released the game will function correctly and there are certainly many people who don't have any issues with the game but you are rolling the dice. This isn't a short game so you could literally have 40 hours of play in and get stopped only to be told to "start over". The gameplay is great though, if you like RPGs you'll love this game. It's somewhat of a bleak/depressing environment (post nuclear world) but that's the idea. The combat system is a lot of fun too, allowing you to target specific areas of an enemy. You can only level up to level 20 at that point you can progress no further in terms of character development, which is somewhat of a bummer but assuming you don't run into the game ending freezes that prevent you from playing the main story line, you'd probably only go through 20 levels anyway. Great game but everyone should be aware PRIOR to purchase that there are potential glitches that keep you from playing the main story line and there's no timeline from Bethesda in terms of when a patch will be released. May want to purchase another game and get this diamond in the rough after they polish it a bit!

"You guys screwed the pooch", My Fallout 3 CD was scratched all to hell and won't even play in my X-Box 360. I doubt I'll be buying another game/DVD from Amazon.

"You can tell Bethesda Made", you can tell Bethesda Made it, Lots of side quests, you can almost completely forget about the main guest line, as i did for over 50 hours on my second play through, plus you can skip ahead in the main quest, if you know where to find certain objects, i completely skipped the GNR quest.

as with Bethesda Elder Scrolls - Oblivion, There as been once or twice that it as froze on me, but that's remedied by keeping only a few side quest open at a time, for me anyways..

over all, the game is the best i have played all year, cant wait for a few expansions for Fallout 3.

"pretty much what i expected", PROS
- Fun game
- VATS is something new for gaming.
- Open world with a lot to do (more than almost any other non-Bethesda game).
- Bethesda is a top developer. Todd Howard seems to be a great guy.
- A lot more voice acting than in prior Bethesda releases.
- Controls. Bethesda has the greatest view/camera system in the industry in my opinion. Simply click a button and you're in 1st person, click again you're in 3rd person -- all games should do this in my opinion -- it should be standard.

NEUTRAL
- Bobblehead. meh.
- Far less glitching and bugs than Oblivion. Oblivion had far fewer than Morrowind. Thus Bethesda is getting better and better at debugging.

CONS
- Pip-Boy is a poorly designed battery killer.
- Graphics and animation have unfortunately not been improved since the time of Oblivion. This was a key disappointment to me. I know everything is supposed to look run-down and devastated, but that doesn't mean it has to look graphically mediocre.

IS THIS AN IMPROVEMENT OVER OBLIVION?
- Not for me no.

IS THIS JUST OBLIVION WITH GUNS?
- Some will so no, some say yes. I say YES. It's little more than a re-skinned Oblivion with guns + VATS...and to that I say "fine by me".

WHAT VERSION OF WHAT PLATFORM TO GET?
- PC/360 get DLC so stick with those. PC if you prefer mouse. I prefer joystick, so 360 for me. Definitely do NOT buy the Amazon Exclusive Edition. Sold out by now, but if you see it via Amazon Marketplace sellers or on Ebay, know that the Pip-Boy is going to be a paperweight.

"Oblivion With Guns!!", Yet another great title from Bethesda. From start to finish, by far, one of the greatest RPG/FPS to date. Great graphics, a story and characters you care about, and a innovative combat system that makes game play addictive. An absolute must own!

"Great game, but too many bugs", The title says it all - this game was way too buggy to have been released. It could have been amazing if it were more polished. I have played through this game one and a half times. The first time I played through it I encountered a game-ending bug where you can't leave a particular area without the game freezing. However, I had saved in a "safe" area shortly before encountering this bug, so I got around it. My second time through I encountered the same game-ending bug in a different area. This time I had not saved anytime recently, so I've decided to wait for the patch to come out before I play it again.

This experience might be acceptable for a beta test, but not for a finished product. I am not the only one having these issues - lots of people on the forums are talking about it. Aside from the more serious issues, the game also suffers from some jagged edges - there are incomplete quests, dialog errors (NPCs, including your father, will confuse your gender), and the artificial intelligence is AWFUL - especially your companions' AI.

It really is too bad because the game had a lot of potential. It's still a lot of fun to play in spite of these issues. The graphics are great, combat is fun, and the game really evokes a sense of loneliness as you're walking through the wastes. It might be a much better game once a patch comes out, but as of now it is difficult to recommend.

"I love this game!!!!! =]", Wow this game is amazing! I love everything about it you can tell they put so much into this! Even the menus, the intro, the gameplay, the freedom its so so so good!

"Fallout 3 is by far one of the best games of 2008", Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277 in an alternate time line resembling our own. The world has been devastated by nuclear holocaust following the "Great War". Your character is born inside what's called a Vault, an underground fallout shelter from which no one ever enters and no one ever leaves for 200 years.

You start the game quite literally by being born. You can then customize your character and begin your journey into the Fallout 3 world. After leaving the Vault to find your father who has escaped, you emerge into the wastelands of what used to be Washington D.C. Where you go from there and how you act, be it a hero or a villain, is up to you.

Fallout 3 takes place in a massive world. The map on which you can pretty much freely roam around is about 16 square miles, making it near impossible to ever see everything or tread on every bit of ground that is available. This is not to mention that there are also vast underground metro systems and huge buildings to explore. The same goes with the choices you can make as you trek the bombed out world and meet its many various inhabitants. This means on multiple play-thru's you could potentially see and experience the game completely differently every time.

The game is primarily RPG (role-playing game) style with elements thrown in from 1st person shooters and action games. You level up your character by gaining experience points through 20 potential levels; each granting more skills and special perks to further customize your gaming experience and character creation.

Your character will face many dangerous creatures and adversaries while traveling the wastes, but luckily you are equipped with a Pip-Boy 3000. Your Pip-Boy, a device mounted on your arm, displays vital information about your character, your equipment, skills, radiation levels, even a radio. Most importantly is it's assisted targeting system, called V.A.T.S., which allows you to freeze time and specifically target which parts of your enemy to aim for when firing your weapon. And there are weapons-a-plenty in Fallout 3. You will have to find, repair and scavenge for not only your firearms, but ammo for them and other beneficial items such as food or stat modifying items. You can even collect assorted junk to trade to other scavengers or use to build custom weapons and items.

Overall Fallout 3 is an amazing in-depth experience that will keep you playing for many, many hours. At times you will feel so drawn in to the experience, you may suddenly find yourself feeling lonely while traveling the vast wastes, scared while running from a pack of Ghouls or Super Mutants, heroic as you free detained slaves from evil slavers, or evil as you destroy an entire town (and all it's inhabitants) with the flip of a nuclear bomb's switch. The choice is always yours. The game manages to drag you in to the story and make you feel like you are a living, breathing inhabitant of this world, not so very far different from our own.

"Finally!", I have been waiting for this game since Fallout II. I played both I and II on PC when they came out many years ago. It was such a pleasant surprise to hear that this game was actually coming out. I pre-ordered and wasn't disappointed.

Pros:
1) Has the "flavor" of the original Fallout on PC. For those of you who played the early games you know what I mean.
2) I was a little skeptical about how VATS would work in 1st person, but it is excellent. Easy to use and way cool to watch it play out.
3) The RPG element is fantastic. Lots and lots of depth and replayability.
4) Graphics are just about the best I've seen in anything on XBOX 360.
5) Story is great and plays different every time you play. Again, high replay value.

Cons:
1) Biggest one is that once you reach LVL 20, you are invincible. The fighting is not a challenge if you want to extend play and beat everything before beating the main game. The joy of the game when you get to this point is mainly in exploring.
2) Should have an option to extend play once you beat the game. This isn't too tough to work around if you just decide not to work the main story to a conclusion, but my question is why not just let the game continue beyond that like in the original Fallout?
3) Need more random encounters!!! Kinda sucks that when you go back to a building where you wiped out some creatures at LVL 1, you see that at LVL 20 their bodies are still there and the building is empty. Why not have random encounters in all those areas instead of just the open areas? That would seriously increase the replayability.
