"What a nightmare! This is horrible software"
A warning to anyone thinking of buying this software - DON'T DO IT! I have previous versions of Trend products on several machines that I have been very satisfied with, so when I got my new laptop (intel dual core, 2G ram, 160G harddrive), the first thing I installed was the latest and greatest from Trend.

Immediately I started having mystery problems with the machine - it was dog slow, I couldn't keep more than a couple of programs open at a time, I'd get "insufficient resources" or "not enough quota" errors, and most disconcerting, random video errors where text would simply not display in windows and dialog boxes. I spent six weeks wasting time trying to track down problems, installing Microsoft patches, adjusting system settings, searching for memory leaks and even going so far as to have the laptop manufacturer replace the RAM. Nothing cured the problem, and worst of all, when the errors would happen, there was no record in the task manager of problems - no RAM consumption, no CPU hogging, no thread tie-ups - NOTHING. I didn't even consider that Trend could be the source of the problem - why should I, their previous products had been excellent, right?

Finally, as a last resort before reformatting the drive, I tried taking Trend out of the boot list (not just turning it off after boot, but making sure it doesn't run at all during boot) and guess what? NO MORE PROBLEMS!!!

Ever since I removed Trend Internet Security 2008 I've had no problems, real dual-core performance and no abnormal video or resource issues. I've been using Avast for virus protection, which has a very small footprint, and it's FREE.

So, in review, even if you've had good luck with Trend products in the past, AVOID TREND INTERNET SECURITY 2008 LIKE THE PLAGUE. If you've got Trend 2008 and any sort of inexplicable system behavior problems, try taking all Trend executibles out of the boot list and see what a difference it makes. Don't lose time and productivity like I did.

"Better than most antivurs!"
I'm a fan of trend micro antiviruses. And is better than norton, kaspersky, panda, etc. For me at least! Is simple, functional, is always up to date, and really protect your notebook from everything bad. And work faster than other do

"Great. Less strain on system resources"
After using Norton, McAfee, etc. that came preinstalled on my computers, I have settled down on Trend Micro in the past three years. I found Trend Micro to be the only security suite that would work well with both my old and new computers. Trend Micro compared to other leading brands, keeps memory consumption to a minimum. This latest version (2008) works well with your latest software such as Office 2007. Installation was intelligent, it asked me to exit Microsoft Outlook and also asked me to uninstall (Lavasoft Adaware 2007). In sum, TrendMicro is superb at catching virus and spyware.

"Not worth the money"
The only reason I give this two stars is because I'm nice and it installed without problems. After that, it was everything but...
Outlook Express would hang every time. The software did something to my video driver software and so any graphics based software which included games would no longer work. I know it was the Trend Micro software since each time I uninstalled, everything worked just fine. I'll give customer support one thing, they would return my e-mails, but they couldn't figure out what the problem was. No suggestions they sent back worked. I've never had a problem with an anti-virus before this. I think they need to take their software and start over.

"A very user-friendly product"
I installed Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 on our family's main PC. The laptop is running all free software (AV, Firewall, Antispware), in contrast. Installation of Trend's IS suite was easy and the startup was flawless. I detected no noticeable drag on the system, and a firewall test run at the "Shields Up" test site showed that port blocking was excellent. The firewall went through the normal learning period with the PC's programs with no issues.

The only feature missing was "online game mode" setting which can be found in some other security suites.

Considering the price for which I bought this suite at Amazon, I believe it was a very good product for a bargain.

What our customer's say!

"Slowed down everything", Slowed down startup and internet speed a lot. Sometimes turns itself off during updates. Programs would take forever to load. Really annoying. Still cannot remove one piece of the TM software completely off my computer even after uninstall and everything else I removed.

"Works except for the annoying virus scan.", I have had trouble with the virus scan. Norton allowed me to stop the virus scan and resume it again. Trend Micro does not.

Running Windows XP on a Intel chip at 3.2 GHz with 1.0 GB of RAM, I schedule a virus scan everyday for my hard drive. Trend Micro starts a virus scan when I start using my computer as it comes out of stand by or out of hibernating. This is as expected.

The virus scan noticeable slows down my computer. However, Trend Micro gives me absolutely no way to stop the scan and/or pause the scan and resume the scan later. Very annoying. I called technical support and was told to kill the virus scan process. I keep going into the Task Manager almost every other day and killing the UfNavi process. I manually start the scan again when I'm done with the computer for awhile.

I have been very disappointed with their email customer support:
(1)The first person did not understand my problem. I got the reason why the virus scan was happening but nothing to do about stopping and starting the virus scan again.

I again explained the same problem and proposed a product enhancement and/or bug and/or user interface problem: Give users a way to stop the virus scan and/or pause the scan and resume the scan later. The stop and/or pause and resume "button" should be easily accessible on the "Overview" window; users should not have to search for it on some pull down menu. (Norton does this.)

(2) The next email said there was a pause and stop button when the computer was past 9-10%. I never saw such a button.
I asked technical support where this button was. I left the Trend Micro window open during the first 15 minutes of the scan and did not see any button.
I asked where the button was.

(3) The third email told me to disable the Trend Micro suite to solve my problem. No, I don't want to effectively disable the entire Trend Micro suite which would leave my computer open to spam, viruses, etc.
I guess that would solve the problem!
I haven't heard back yet. :-)

I will not buy Trend Micro again.

"It's ok but not magic", We bought this for our home office, and while it does catch threats (mostly tracking cookies) I have had some problems with Outlook's .pst file that PC-Cillin just can't seem to shake. there is a virus messing with that .pst file, and scanning twice a day isn't getting rid of it.

"Horrible, and don't bother trying to get your refund", Gee, it looks pretty. Doesn't work. Tried an entire day to get it to recognize my simple, 2 computer network. Trashed it, bought BitDefender, had no further problems.
Except with TrendMicro. They advertise a 30 day Money Back Guarantee, which is nonsense. I followed their arcane instructions to request one (several times) and was repeatedly sent an email with a link, and told to click on "request refund" at that link. There isn't one! There is also no way to contact a person, either by email or on the phone: they are strictly auto emails and voice mail that redirects you to the web.
I paid half price for this piece of junk thanks to a discount deal with my company. I'm glad I only lost half the asking price, but really, it's not worth anything.
If you insist on trying this s/w, for pete's sake, try the free trial---that way, you won't be out money if it doesn't work on your computer.

"Good choice!!!", I am satisfied with this product because it is fast and cheap and gives license to 3 PC's

"Absolute disaster!", Upgraded from Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 and what a waste of money! I've used the Trend Micro products for the last few years and had a great experience, no problems, no issues...period. This new product for 2008 will not even install correctly and I would not recommend it to anyone.

"Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 3 user", Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 - 3 User

I Love this utility software! It is easy to use and does not use all your system resources.
Installation on non Vista systems is however a challenge. On the plus side I found the support to be very good.

"TM used to work, doesn't now.", So disapopinted. After starting with TM back in 2006, where it worked well, upgrading to 2007 which worked fine too - basically since already having paid for 2008 I simply can't upgrade on any of the 3 machines.

Unfortunately, tech support was no help. They tried, bless 'em, but couldn't.

First problem was some message that I have Norton or McAfee installed (I forget which). I don't. Still, tried their removal tool - didn't work of course, because I don't have either installed.

Anyway having left this for a few months out of sheer frustration, tried again to upgrade. This time, the infamous "Unable to update your protection. Make sure your internet connection works before trying again." Well guess what, it works, which is how I get to write this.

Unfortunately I need to go through the painful search for a new anti-virus software that's as light as TM used to be, plus deal with the lag which will no doubt be left behind with yet another software removal on a windows machine. The whole experience has... I hate to say it.. made me think of installing a Linux distribution on some of my office machines to circumvent any problems like these.

"Worked as expected", Bought the product due to review from Consumer Report. Easy to Install. Work as expected. Had to uninstall Norton, unable to remove the status window which is a pain... thumbs down on Norton!

"Trend Micro Internet Security - 2008", I purchased two copies as I had to secure 4 computers which were running the 2007 version; I did not have any problems installing the program in either XP or Vista systems, but I would suggest manually removing any old versions of Firewalls, etc. before installing the new software. It is not necessary to do this, but manual removal of the old makes the new install much faster. The 2008 version seems to run faster than the 2007 version and the virus scan found extra stuff that was missed by the 2007 program.
