"I could spend hours playing this!!"
This is very addictive! I could continue to play this forever. I am an adult, so I don't know how much a kid would enjoy it. They may find it boring. But I highly recommend this for adults.

"As advertised"
The game is easy to use and very intutive. It did take a little while to get used to the "orientation" as it was different than my other crossword game. The only issue, if you could call it that, is it does have a little trouble recognizing some of my hand writing letters... but other than that it is an excellent game. The anagram and word search is also fun, but they can be quite challenging for the longer words and having to "side" the puzzle back and forth to see the entire screen.

"Great presentation, but puzzles are kind of lame"
I really like the user interface on this software. It is crisp, clean, easy to read and easy to navigate. The handwriting recognition is superb -- capitals, lowercase, print or cursive. The sideways orientation works well, and it's comfortable to hold in that position.

But.... the puzzles themselves are kind of lame. You start with a choice of Easy or Medium. On Medium:
* The Medium is way too easy. I am not a hard core solver (I can't do the NY Times puzzles easily), but these are simple. They are just right for my 9 year old. My 6 year old does sort of okay on Easy.
* The clues are repetitive from puzzle to puzzle
* Some of the 'words' aren't even words. You might get a clue like "Ham and E___", where your answer is GGS.
* 25 percent of the puzzles are only 4 letters by 4 letters. That's not a crossword!!!

The worst part is that you have to complete ONE HUNDRED of the medium puzzles before unlocking the hard puzzles. It is tedious, tedious, tedious. Once you get to the Hard level, the puzzles improve substantially. But still, 25 percent of the puzzles at this level are only 4x4. Lame.

In addition to crosswords, this game also includes anagrams (word scramble) and word search. The word search is surprisingly enjoyable. The crisp, clean, readable presentation really helps, and this word search is so much nicer than the one in TouchMaster.

Overall, I'd say this game is worth getting. It is perfect for a quick puzzle while waiting in carpools, traveling on the plane -- anywhere you might do a traditional puzzle. If you happen to have a 9 year old to complete the first 100 puzzles for you, you'll love the game.

"Very fun"
My daughter, age 9, just got this game and loves it. There are different levels making it appropriate for all ages, adults and kids alike.

"The Good, the Bad, and the Abased..."
I'd like to get some items out of the way before talking about the not-so-great aspects of this game.

First, the interface works well. The handwriting recognition is very good. I like the zoom-in, zoom-out, big-grid style, and the sans-serif, unembellished font. The music is pleasant. It's a game you can relax with. I don't think the developers tried to compete with the New York Times Crosswords game, and I think the idea of providing puzzles "the whole family" can enjoy shows savvy market research. (Hmm...the back of the box reads, "Crosswords for everyone!" but the front cover shows an adult using the game.)

I thought I would like the anagrams section, but I became frustrated with it because it does not allow references to, for example, adult beverages. (The game has an "E for Everyone" rating.)

The Word Search can be fun, but the categories are hokey.

But the heart of the game is the puzzles, and they're...well, too often exasperating. Ridiculouly easy clues pepper even the Hard puzzles; there's little effort by the puzzle-makers to be witty or oblique. (You'll rarely, if ever, find yourself smiling on the inside by these clues.)

More about the way the game works...

The opening of harder levels seems to be willy-nilly. I had to complete 11% of the Easy- and 34% of the Medium-level puzzles before the game unlocked the Hard puzzles, and so far I've completed 71% of those. I don't know how many more Hard puzzles I need to complete before the game unlocks the next level.

Sure, I'm aware that the charm of many of these games lies in surprise revelations, but forging ahead in Crosswords DS is too often not great fun. Many of the puzzles are simply tedious. At times while completing some puzzles I felt I was simply going through the motions.

Is it because the same words are used again and again? Are "abash" and "abase" in at least in every other puzzle, along with some form of the word "acne"?

(Possible spoiler warning) Some answers have strange clues; for example, a clue for "sushi" is "rice that likes vinegar." Another clue perplexed me for a long time: "embellishes with garnish" ended up being "lards." I tried "lures" and that didn't work, so I started to look at other areas of the puzzle for errors. I began questioning if I had given the right answers to the other clues.

Players can choose to be notified immediately if they've written an incorrect letter. I used this feature but stopped doing so when I'd completed about 60% of the Hard puzzles. I suspected that using this form of help might be keeping me from opening the puzzles one level above Hard.

So, I suppose I'll do a puzzle now and then, and maybe someday -- someday -- the next level of harder puzzles will open, I hope, to crosswords that are a little more engaging.

What our customer's say!

"What can I say...it's crosswords.", This game is pretty nice. The crosswords have been fairly easy so far but I haven't gotten to the expert ones yet. The anagrams are okay, but hard to see. But if you are looking for a game to stimulate your mind, this works.

"3 word games in 1 ", This is a game that has 3 wordgames in one game: Crosswords, Wordsearches, and Anagrams

Crosswords- I don't really do crosswords but in this game they give you easy mode, so I do the easy crosswords and usually do okay on them, and they also give you hints if you get stuck on them, but if you do hints it will add extra time on it. As you progress more crosswords will unlock and so will the levels of diffculty.

Wordsearches- The wordsearches are the main reason why I brought this game because I love doing wordsearches. The wordsearches have 3 levels of diffculty. I unlocked all the easy and medium puzzles and as you progress though it more puzzles will unlock.

Anagrams- For these puzzles I think you have to complete 3 of them until you unlock all the levels: short, medium, and long. This is almost like jumbles( I like jumbles)

Overall if you like word games I recommed you to buy it.

"Crossword, find-a-word, anagrams.", As a beginner to crosswords I've found the "Crosswords DS" package very good in that it starts out with basic and medium games for play. As you solve (or resolve if you like) the games new ones open up. Immediate correction is available, letter reveal, word reveal are also available. I don't see a "printed solution" so if you turn off immediate correction and think you've solved the puzzle, only the software decides you haven't -- then I think the word reveal is an expensive way (points-wise) to try to find out where you went wrong.
Overall a good set of games.

"Crosswords", This is a good challenging game for crossword addicts. My wife enjoys it and plays for hours.

"The trial version got me hooked!", I downloaded the trial version of this and REALLY enjoyed it. I'm usually not a crosswords fan, but I plan on buying this as soon as possible!

"Love the Anagrams", I bought Crosswords, obviously for the crosswords, but I absolutely love the Anagrams. I'm not a word search fan at all, even though I love how easy it is to just trace your stylus over the words you've searched out. The crosswords is so small it is hard to keep scrolling back and forth to find the rest of the words, but I am so hooked on the anagrams. I would love for them to add some extra long words, more than 7 letters.
But i pick it up EVERY night, and it travels with me to Dr appts,
road trips, waiting to pick up children from school, at the DMV. It is so easy to save a game and pick right up where you left off. Would love to see them come out with JUST an anagram game. Also, I am over 60.

"I love this game!", As someone who doesn't usually enjoy crosswords, I love this game. the puzzles start out relatively easy and let you work up to the harder levels. I actually got this game for the word jumble, but I don't even play that game that much because you have to guess EVERY single word that can be spelled from the letters given. I think I have only finished one! Even though I don't play the work jumble that much or the word search, they are still good games.

"Fantastic", I love this DS game. I am an old lady who uses her DS to keep myself mentally stimulated. I take care of my disabled husband and enjoy the fact that I can play the game for a while and save it if I get interrupted. I love Crossword puzzles but I find myself playing the word search and anagrams just as much if not more. I see where someone said this was a game for children......I guess I am going through my second childhood then.

"Crosswords", I love it! I am an avid crossword puzzle solver but I play word search and anagram more than the crosswords. It's a wonderful game and I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed.

"I am up and down about CROSSWORDS", I like this DS Program. However there are a few drawbacks.

There are plenty of crosswords, word searches and anagrams...but when writting the letters, sometimes an N is mistaken for an H..or a G for a Q. If that is the only problem I ever have, it would not stop my enjoyment of this program..and It hasn't. I just hate erasing a letter when I wrote the letter in correctly the first time.

So why only Four stars instead of five, This crossword is a DS game, but not really a fast fingered video game. I hate hidden levels on any game. There are levels hidden in this CROSSWORDS program and it annoys me. I enjoy that i can do crosswords, but wonder in a newer version if they allow me to skip to a harder level instead of easy and medium and work my way to harder more taxing puzzles. Also after you done a number of these medium and easy puzzles, the clues repeat themselves too many times.

This DS program is great for children and adults alike. If you haven't used your mind lately (I use Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day! for my daily brain trainning), this program is a godsend.
