"Norton Recommends Not Buying This Software"
I have owned Norton software since 1993 and loved it. I bought NIS 2008 to update my NIS 2007. Attempts to install bomb at the Network Security loading. After uncountable chat sessions and emails, Norton admits that they have major issues with this software anywhere its intallation is attempted on a network (that includes home area network, wired or wireless where there is more than 1 PC). Their attempt to load in special "Network Filter" software into my system damaged it until I could find out how to remove everything they loaded. They were locked out of my PC and I almost was. Their final recommendation is return 2008 to get your money back and buy a new copy of 2007 (now a second copy) so that I can use it for another year while they try and straighten out this mess. Don't buy this software.

"Don't buy - support is terrible"
Got a Norton Internet Security problem? Get ready for pain. All support personnel appear to be on the other side of the world and measured only on how fast they can get you off the line.

I reported a problem and listed all the steps I'd taken, and they sent a response with a canned article telling me to do what I'd just told them I had already done. They responded with more things to try, and after a week or so of me trying things and them offering new things, they closed the ticket saying they had "high volume" and I could reopen if I was not satisfied, or I could contact the chat. The chat guy connected in, duplicated the problem, and rebooted the computer. The computer came back up and claimed he was connected, but no further communication. When I sent an "I'm back" message, he disconnected me. I was messing up his connect time numbers I guess. Still no resolution.

Symantec is not listening and/or they don't care. Don't make the mistake of buying this product.

"Norton Internet Security: Impossible to uninstall"
Norton Internet Security slowed my XP Pro-based PC to a virtual standstill.
I attempted to remove it but the removal was not successful. I am unable to completely remove it using the add/remove program. I'm unable to install another security suite because it "sees" remnants of Norton, and I can't successfully reinstall Norton. The result, thanks to Norton: a PC that is
essentially inoperable.

"Do not buy unless you like frustration"
I bought Internet Security 2008 online directly from Symantec to upgrade my 2005 version. The download failed 3 times. After finally getting a download, I watched it stick on the same screen for 45 minutes. Since you can't call them on the phone, you have to use their "Instant" chat. I was 4th in line, waited 30 minutes, and IE suddenly froze up and I lost my place in line. Tried to re-install...nothing works.

Finally, I gave up and requested a refund. Guess what--you go to online chat. I am "next in the queue" but have been waiting for 45 minutes for a response. They're probably waiting for me to go away. Next I will challenge the charge on my credit card, contact the BBB, and probably my state Attorney General.

Do yourself a favor--go buy something else. If Amazon would allow a zero-star review, I'd give it.

"Norton Internet Security! YES!"
I have to say that what Norton has done for my company is amazing. It takes so little to hack networks these days that I would pay 4 times what they are asking. No virues, no hackers! Just work, work, work!

What our customer's say!

"Happy with a side note.", As always, Norton is a bit slow at start up (unless you want to pay more for the 360). This is a 3 user account. Loaded on 2 different machines with 2 different results of ease. I do have a 3rd computer, but it is a MAC and there is no exceptions from Norton. I did find it cheaper a few days afterward, but already had to return it once (shipped single user)and did not want to go through that again. However, Norton is still the best out there.

"Slower than cold molasses, worse than a virus, intrusive", The difference is like day and night. One minute my laptop was performing fairly well for a 4+ year old machine, then with Norton (painfully long installation)it takes forever to open a web page, everything is unworkably slow and often freezes up. Maybe on newer PC's with excess speed and memory to spare it might not be so noticeable but why would you spend good money on computing power just to have it wasted by anti-virus software.

I gave it one star partly because Amazon doesn't allow zero or negative stars, and partly because Norton contributes to the nostalgia experience. It reminds me of the good ol'dial-up days, except maybe a little slower. Maybe Norton could add sound effects to imitate a dial-up modem.

Frequent pop-ups pester you to download updates, which are also slow, then you have to restart. My previous anti-virus was Windows Live OneCare which I gave up because it was expensive and pesky, but compared to Norton, OneCare was discreet and non-intrusive. Does Norton really think they are so important that PC users want a Norton tool bar reminding that "Fraud monitoring is on." Too bad Fraud monitoring didn't catch Norton masquerading as a utility. Aargh!

"Error Free Upgrade", This was an upgrade to NIS 2005. OS is Windows XP SP2. Absolutely no problems during the install, and after a month the system is operating well with no glitches (unlike w/NIS 2005). Boot up is much faster. User interface is not that complicated. I would recommend this update to previous users of Norton NIS.

"Garbage", I had the previous version of Norton before I purchased 2008 and should have done more research. I tried 2008 in both of my computers and it was slow and caused problems that I don't even want to get into. Uninstalled it and threw the disk away that had one more install for another computer. I've been with Norton for years but they really screwed up with 2008. Never again.

"4.5/5. GREAT product, however............", First, lemme start saying something.
I've NEVER been a fan of Norton. I'm pretty sore you all know what I'm talking about. Speed, virus detection is not always as good as some others like Kaspersky, and well I can continue with the list.

I read in the PC World magazine, and also in PC Magazine about NIS 2008. I think that in both magazines, NIS 2008 appeared as the best security suite of the year 2007. I must be honest, I wasn't expecting that. Not from Norton.

I tried the product, since it has a 15-day trial. I had tried Kaspersky Internet Security right before this.
And, lemme say that I was really SATISFIED with the results. I have a Core2Duo 2.0ghz and 2gb RAM, running WXP Pro.
Honestly, I really like the interface. Some might not agree as much with this one, but I find it really easy to use. Obviously there are some things that aren't as easy as they could, but overall it's pretty cool.

Results? Norton Internet Security is super effective. It detects and unblocks the programs it has to, and it also blocks everything it has to. I use P2P software like BitTorrent, mIRC, LimeWire, and some others, and Norton has NEVER bothered me about these things. I barely open the program to configure something, it just does everything it has to.

Virus/malware detection? So far, Norton has detected EVERYTHING that has passed through this computer. There were actually 2 viruses in my computer, and by that time I had Kaspersky. Kaspersky didn't even DETECT those 2 files, and I couldn't even delete them, or close them in the Task Manager. They were still there when I uninstalled Kaspersky and installed Norton.

Norton detected BOTH right away, and deleted them with no major issues. That was something, like I said before, that I wasn't expecting from Norton. It even detected a couple other viruses Kaspersky hadn't.
Every USB key I put in my computer has to go through Norton, and to be honest, I usually find viruses in all of them. There are only a couple that have been a 100% clean. And, people tell me that they had scanned their USBs with other antivirus programs like NOD32 or, even Kaspersky. Norton detects everything, and destroys it right away.

Speed? I don't even feel the presence of Norton there. Yes, it delays a little bit when it boots, but it's not a big deal to be honest. It doesn't take a lot of my RAM or processor. I love that part.

Overall, I'm 95% SATISFIED with the product.
Why not 100%? And here's why I put 4.5 instead of 5.
And it's called: CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I feel like those guys know nothing about the product. I once chatted with an agent, and one of the answers he gave me, I could tell that he had copied/pasted the answer to my question, and it just SUCKED. Plus, he wasn't even answering my question. He told me a lot of stuff, but nothing to do whith what I asked.
You could probably say that it was a coincidence, and that the customer service is pretty good, but then I say well, this actually happened like 3 times, AT LEAST. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Conclusion: if you're looking for a GOOD security suite, fast and easy to use, buy this product right away. Just pray that you won't have to contact customer service a lot, cause it's simply a pain in the butt.

Well done, Norton, you have a VERY satisfied customer!

"Norton Internet Security! YES!", I have to say that what Norton has done for my company is amazing. It takes so little to hack networks these days that I would pay 4 times what they are asking. No virues, no hackers! Just work, work, work!

"Great alternate", I unloaded and unsubscribed to Norton and went with Trendmicro. Works better, Auto updates and hogs up way less resources, etc.

"STAY AWAY FROM NORTON", Norton used to be great, but their products are bloated and useless now. Stay away.

"Really gets on the problems", We got this after we had a major virus hit a computer and it is doing everything they promised - picking up the tracking cookies, blocked several problem sites. We installed it on three computers and feel much better having this now.

"Defiantly not the best", I've been a long time user of Norton Internet Security. I purchased this one based on the "improve speed" of your computer features. It was very easy to install, faster than older versions, I very much liked the look of the new 2008, and the scan seemed to be abit better than the older versions as well. I did enjoy the feature of saving my logins. I've not used that before. However, all the good things were about to come to an end. Yes my 2 laptops startup quicker than before, but their performance is slower than it used to be. I was annoyed at how hard it was to turn off the Phishing filter. I never use this feature. After 10 mins of looking for and turning the option to off, it finally stuck. Then I tried to find the Ad Blocking feature for webpages. This was a wonderful feature in the older versions. I could not find it. I searched the support site and still could find nothing. All I found were several references to download the Add-On pack with Parental Controls and AntiSpam. Why this is an add-on in the first place I don't know. After downloading and installing the add-on, I was still unable to block ads on webpages. This is a major problem as I use Comcast Webmail. After my email/webpage locking up 10 times in a row, I decided to stomach the cost, uninstalled 2008 and reinstalled 2006 and renewed my subscription. This in itself turned into a hassle. I had to get online Chat support from Symantec to get my renewal code validated. When the whole process was done, I not only wasted money on 2008, had to buy a renewal subscription, spent way more time messing with my "protection" than I wanted. I do not recommend this version of Norton to anyone.
