"One of the best Sports games"
This game is a lot of fun. The gameplay is good overall. There are times when you pass the ball that it does not go to the person you intended but other than that it is good. Online capability prodvides long lasting playablity. But there is still a lot you can do offline. Play with 7 people at once on one system. Awesome kicks, headers and dribbling moves. Play tournaments, challenges, seasons, and more. It is a must-buy for those that like sports even if you don't like soccer, specifically.

"Great View Horrible Play"
I played this game a few time and gave up. I have recently sold it on ebay. It is so difficult to switch between players that you can not be in control of your play. You are at the mercy of the computer most the time. Example: If you are a defender chasing a faster player usually you would simply switch to one of your defenders up field, but with this game you can only switch to the player that is closest to the ball; regardless of anything else. So, if the computer does not put one of your other defenders in front of the attacking player you are toast. Then, all you can do is hope your keeper, who is almost always controlled by the computer, can stop the shot.
I am a huge fan of FIFA Soccer games and I have played them since the early 1990's. This is my first bad experience with a FIFA Soccer game, but it was so bad that I simply refuse to continue playing it. I can only hope that EA Sports will come out with a better version next year.

"The epitome of frustration"
I wanted SO MUCH to like this game. It started well enough,..smooth graphics, tons of teams and leagues, life-like player renderings. The gameplay seemed to be pretty good too. A week later, i'm still on the amateur level and still can't score goals. I have owned every FIFA game for the past 10 years and have always played at the highest levels to great success. I have played soccer/coached soccer for over 30 years. This game is so irritating that I have not only broken 2 controllers, it is going back asap. The FIFA franchise' gameplay has gone BACKWARDS since it peaked in 2005. The game does not reward solid buildup or creativity. Most goals are of the garbage variety. Its next to impossible to take the ball from the CPU yet they are TOO smart to pry open with through balls and too sound in the middle of the backline to beat on the dribble. The game is simply too complicated. Bring back the simplicity of the 2005 version with updates and rosters.

"Great game!"
This game is really great for me, i like the online tournaments, the type of game play and also the "play on a single position", this is great, because it tells you when you are playing well, when you are playing wrong that especific position, and you can choose any one that you like....and of course also te classic things, but improved.

"We're Making Progress... But We're Not Quite There Yet..."
This is the best FIFA Soccer game yet - the graphics are wonderful on a 1080p DLP TV and the presentation, licensing, is top notch. Gameplay is much improved, although I agree with several previous reviewers on two very important points:

1. When defending, all you can really do is run alongside the ball handler and try to pressure him off of the ball. That's it. Timing a tackle can also work, but if you miss, you're in odd-man situation and the AI does a fairly good job at working a shot.
2. Trying to execute a 'trick' move is very hard to do, must be anticipated well in advance, and even then, there is little success. Even in extreme situations (i.e. C Ronaldo vs. any Derby County defender - get the point).

Also, the AI seems very proficient at corner kicks - much more proficient then you will find you will be able to be. But enough criticism. The game is fun, has very little framerate issues (you'll see a slight hesitation rarely), has great stadiums & kits and plays well online. This is a big step for this franchise and sets the stage for a (potentially) very strong, PES-challenging game platform. In fact, FIFA '08 is strong enough to make those of us fluent in the PES/Winning Eleven series to start nit-picking that game (mainly, the lack of licensing and amount of editing needed to be done to present the teams & kits properly). What's important at the end of the day, however, is the play on the pitch, and FIFA has made big strides. It's not quite as smooth and responsive as PES, but the gap is narrowing and "Seabass" (the producer of PES 2008) should be on DEFCOM alert 4.

"Best next gen football game at the moment", This is the best FIFA game ever. It is so realistic. Evryone should own this game.

"When FIFA surpassed PES", After 9 years of reverence towards the PES/Winning Eleven series, I have to recognize that this is the FIFA installment that by far takes the gold medal of soccer video games. "Best sports game", This soccer game is the best sports game I've played. It's fun to play with friends or by yourself or online. It is a complete game with many game modes and challenges. The grapics are also very crisp. I would highly reccomend this game to even those who don't follow soccer.

"Worst control ever!", First, I've been playing EA Fifa since 2000. Second, those games were ALWAYS my favorites, even compared with other soccer games. But I have to admit this one has a real big problem with controls: it supposed you enjoy scoring, so why you are always shooting to the posts???? Why is so difficult to move the ball and left the defenders away? I want a game to relax and enjoy, not a dissapointing game when the score is always against your team, because a single shot from the computer is a goal...but you have to score 1 in 20 shots!!!! And I'm talking with 9 years playing the same game, even the 08 for PS2.

"Most Polished Fifa Ever!",
Fifa 2008 is the most polished and perfected fifa that has ever been brought to market. The game play is amazing, the menu, the graphics, the extra features!

People that have played fifa for ages like me will agree, this fifa tops them all for so many reasons its hard to express.

Once you connect to the internet the game breathes an entirely new life: soccer podcasts from all around the world, game updates, roster downloads, live sports ticker, match games with entire strangers.

ITS AMAZING!!!

"Great game but its is still not Pro Evolution", This is by far the best FIFA game I have ever played, and trust me, I have seen them all. The control stick and new features are amazingly good, making this installment of FIFA the most solid and fun to play with. Still, this is no Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution Soccer.

The gameplay has been improved but it is still its weakest area. There is always some lag when trying to put together a few consecutive passes and strikes. If you are a PES follower like me, you will be quickly dissapointed to learn that making your forwards shoot when you instructed them to do so is not as easy as you would think. Great game to watch, not to play.

"Fantastic Game!", Finally, how grateful am I that a true soccer game has returned. I'm pleased to say that this is the best FIFA that has come in years. The feel of the game, the graphics, the sounds, the new gameplay, etc. I'll try not to make this a long review so here it goes. FIFA has all of the clubs that matter, (and many that don't, really) with official kits, boots, balls, stadiums and many more. The new addition is the shooting system, place the ball where you want it. There is also the new be a pro mode that allows you to play with a single player and be judged on your performance. I have said before that FIFA was becoming an expensive roster update, but I must now take that back and judge this game as excellent. Please, if you love soccer, do us all a favor and pick this game, you won't regret it, I bet my life on it.

"Continues where 07 left off", I really anticipated this game as I am a huge football fan .I also own all the past games in this series.The anticipation was in how this game would look on a next gen system.I must say I was disappointed by the graphics as I was looking for so much more detail.It was like looking at a upscaled version of 07 .
The gameplay was ok , what I really liked was the ability to execute tricks in the game .The game also presents more of a challenge .
The online play has not been smooth and I have yet to update the software so my online days have been limited .I cannot vouch for the quality of online play .
All in all the game is good , looking forward to more in 09.


"EA Steps up their game", Compared to past games, this is the best EA soccer game. I have purchased this game since PS1. I also have played soccer since I was 5.

Be a pro mode is awesome. Pick one player on a team and go. It is just like being on the field.
One on One while waiting for the game to load - AWESOME.
Graphics and Sound MUCH better.
Movement on the field - much better. The players move into position better, make runs when told or when available (Compared to before having a both forwards in offside positions the moment you turn with a midfielder). Speed is correct on players. (Ryan Giggs does not run faster than Shawn Wright Phillips) and shot control is MUCH better.
A
League play is about the same with one major improvement in my opinion. Transfers and game play are more important than upgrading your stadium manager. Players that are hurt are on a more real life recovery plan. (FIFA 07 had a field player out for 6 weeks with a broken arm. Tell me Ronaldo is sitting out 6 weeks with a broken arm in real life?)
Online mode is really good but still does not drag me away from manager mode

C-
International Play has not stepped up yet. Not all players are available for selection and updating them online does not bring them into your selection process. With the online ability here, there is no reason why a player pool should be incomplete.

F-
If you pick a team to manage that is in the Champion's League (or the EA name for it) you do NOT get to play it. You still have to go through an entire season and qualify. So if you pick Man Utd or Chelsea then you will not play any European teams your first season as manager.
PLEASE FIX THIS EA!!!

Overall, if you enjoy soccer and you enjoy watching leagues (English, Spainish, MLS, etc...) then you probably find that this game has a lot of re-playability and is very fun to play.

I will still be interested in Winning 11 on PS3 though.
