"handy informant" Easy to use and helps to spot energy hogs. I solved most problems by using power strips to turn off groups of electronics sucking up "standby " power.
"good idea lousy design" it sounds great and I really wanted to use it. we all should do as much as we can to save energy. The product promises to tell you how much energy diferent appliances etc. use, and you get the impression you can zoom around the house easily getting readings and decide what are the energy hogs. Instead it is very hard to set up or figure out so you can get started and once you know how to use it it is difficult to plug in and use. The instructions are confusing. In short unless you are willing to spend hours figuring it out and then trying to plug it in to corners where it doesn't fit, it is a waste of time and money.
"Great meter!" Does what it says with a solid build. Some room for improvements. (I would like a backlight button and display when unplugged button) But I'm very happy with the unit.
"Kill A Watt meter" The P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor is a very nice tool. The $35 that I paid is a little more than I had hoped, but not too bad. The unit seems to be running well as I've been using it for a month now. Unfortunately, I have nothing to compare it with. I looked at Lowes, Home Depot and Menards and couldn't find any such device. So far, I like what I see, and I would recommend this to someone needing a Watt meter. As far as the actual order, I am very pleased how well ordering this online from Amazon was. I orderd Sunday night and received it via the cheapest ground rate Wednesday afternoon. Overall a very good experience.
"kill a watt" Good product. When they say "any" appliance they mean one that uses less than 15 amps. Nowhere in the description does it mention this limitation. Buy a flashlight and a power strip for optimum performance. Keep instructions handy.

What our customer's say!
"P4460 Kill-A-Watt Monitor", If you are interested in determining the efficiency of any plug-in 110v device operating below 15 amps, I highly recommend this monitor. One can get an immediate readout of volts, amps, VA, power factor, and watts being consumed. To get a reading over time with devices that use standby power when not in use (e.g., devices with remote controls) or devices with thermostats that turn on intermittently (e.g., refrigerators) one can leave the monitor plugged in for a day or more to get a reading of total KWH consumed and the total time, so that KWH consumption per month, year, etc. can be calculated. By entering your cost per KWH the monitor will give a direct reading in cost for the time plugged-in or per day, week, month, year. The monitor may be unplugged and plugged in elsewhere for a more convenient reading, since the data are retained in memory. Pressing the reset button starts over. It is helpful to plug the monitor into a power strip with a 4 to 6 ft cord for taking readings from places where plugging the monitor directly into the wall outlet is not convenient.
"Kill a Watt", The product is very easy to use and understand. Once set up you can start to figure what appliances are costing you money and what the pay back is on new purchases.
"Does the job", I was a bit disappointed after I received the item. Don't get me wrong it works as expected but I was thinking I could really find out ways to save some money by identifying electrical vampires. All of the electronics I tested used so little electricity when not on it seems kind of silly to be concerned. For example a 27" HDTV with a DVD player on the same circuit uses $4.53 a year when not being used. For some reason I thought it would cost more than it does.
But it is interesting to find out how much appliances cost to use if you ran them 24/7 for 365 days. The TV and DVD player runs around $98 a year.
My Wish list: I wish it had a back light; I'm 50 and can't see so well. I also wish it had a tilted screen; it's a pain to work with it while it's in the wall socket and catching the right angle to see.
Overall, it's a fine product.
"Watt monitor", This is a good product and does exactly what it says it will do. Great way to monitor electric usage. Well worth the money. I highly recommend this product.
"power monitor", The P4460 Electricity usage monitor is a nice item to have. I have found the things in my house that use the most power and have made arrangements to turn them off when not in use and in some, that meant pulling the plug. If you have high electric bills, I recommend this item to find out why and give you ways to lower them.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"great purchase helps energy reality", I bought the Kill-A-Watt EZ to better understand where my electrical energy $$ were being used. While there were some surprises, good and bad, what this device really helped me do was to take a critical look at what wastes my money. A nice surprise was my fairly new refridgerator (4 to 5 yr old Sears); it only costs $65.00 per year. Another surprise, a bad one, was how much it costs to have my VCR, TV, DVD, and cable box turned off but lights or LEDs still on; $36.00 per year. I now have a surge protector and turn everything off at bedtime. Lights and lamps can be a big energy waster. If you pay 10 cents per killowatt it means for every 10 hours a 100watt lamp is on it costs you 10 cents. The new CFL bulbs reduce that cost to 3 cents. Running a faucet till the water is hot, mainly out of habit, is a great waste of money, especially when cold water hand washing works just fine. The main point is that having this meter answers questions and makes you think about your energy use and waste. I like everything about this Kill-A-Watt meter except the display could be a little brighter, hence only a 4-star rating. I recommend it for many reasons.
"it works and pretty accurate too.", The price is right on this little gadget. I agree with prior reviews saying a "backlight" would really help (Yeah, a flashlight is an option but where is it when you need it.).I tested mine with a 60 watt bulb, read 61 watts. Close enough.Found that my computer power factor (efficiency) is 74% contributing to dirty power, my new refrigerator power cost is $4.80 / month @ .16 per KWH. Well worth it considering other meters are $78, $155, and $300 for a similar item. Buy it, learn to use it, you'll like it.
"As advertised, works well", I bought this product to charge my Electric vehicle and get an idea of how much electricity I'm using for a given trip. It works very well and I've not seen any problems as of yet. I did not go through the checking and calibration procedures as others have because I simply need an idea and am not selling KWH's. The instructions are very lame but with a little fumbling around in the basic menus it's real easy to figure out. I agree with several other postings that a back up battery would be nice to view data when it's unplugged but that would only add to the price. A cheap lamp extension cord at the bench could act as a data reader when not in use. Very nice little gadget. Buy one, you'll not regret it!
"Great product, but a few changes would make it excellent", This product works just as advertised and I am really happy with the information it provides. There are a few easy modifications that would really make it much better. It needs to be back lighted. I have to use a flashlight to see it in most cases. It could also use a 3 foot cord so it would be easier to access. Also in today's world many places use timed rates and this does not account for that but overall it gave me the info I needed even if I had to provide light a little math to figure my cost on a timed basis.
"Useful, but not perfect", Very useful for determining the amount of energy used by major appliances. I like the fact that it keeps track of total energy consumption and uses the actual energy cost to forecast the cost of operation. This information is very useful when targeting appliances to reduce energy consumption. It is also useful for evaluating how successful I am at reducing energy consumption.
I don't like the fact that the LCD does not have a backlight, and that the display can only be read while the unit is plugged in. I have to get on the floor to read it. The unit also blocks both outlets.
I recommend getting a couple of extension cords and using this device "in line". Use one cord from the kill-a-watt to the wall, so that it's easier to read, then another cord from the kill-a-watt to your appliance (not needed if your appliance has a long enough cord).
