"Gives good directions most of the time", I've had this a little over a year now. It has only steered me wrong in a bad way once but it turned out to be an exciting adventure. I need to upgrade the software and then it should be better. I do wish that I had a model that said the street name. Sometimes you'll be coming up to an intersection where it says to turn left or right, and there are two roads very close to each other so you end up keeping an eye on the nuvi and trying to watch the traffic and the street signs at once. My Dad just received a 255W for Christmas from my Mom and I think that's the way to go with the street pronounciation.

"GPS City", Try to match this deal.. as a gift.. has more of todays modes like biking and walking and a personal memory than my SUV's manufacturer GPS.. I'm telling ya WOW!! Paid @124.00 wide screen n everything.. soo happy.

"I love it!", I love my new Garmin nüvi 200W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator. My husband asked me why would I need it around town? I told him there are places I have not been before and need to get to. I have used it a few times and my husband has used it too. It takes the guessing out of getting to your destination you have not been to before. I would recommend it for anyone to use around their home town and/or for traveling.

"ALL YOU NEED", This units is basic but value for dollar it has it all. Why pay more when a year from now all the bells and whisles will cost less. LOVE IT

"I love it - highly recommended!", I used to always get lost. I could drive into cities I'd visited for years and manage to get lost. I would call my boyfriend to get me un-stuck and he'd patiently guide me back out to where I should be via my cellphone. Finally, he decided that he would help me help myself. He did a ton of research and decided to get me this Garmin nüvi 200W GPS as a present.

I've been using this for almost a year now and I *adore* it. It has been incredibly helpful on more occasions than I can count. I have all my main locations programmed into it now, and just its "time to arrival" feature is greatly helpful. I love that there's a one-button "take me home" selection. It makes me happy just to press it - to know that my nuvi will safely get me home no matter where I am!

Sure, being able to customize your pointer, your location icons and even the speaking voice are fun. You can put on a nightmarish voice for Halloween, and turn your pointer into a little sportscar. Really though, all of those pale next to its great functionality. You can turn on and off the voice - I prefer it off, my boyfriend prefers it on. If you get mixed up, it doesn't complain. It simply says "recalculating" and in a moment it has a new route for you!

Does it have issues? Sometimes the route it takes is a bit different than one I would take. No problem - I start on my preferred route and it quickly recalculates and knows where I'm going. There's also sometimes that it gets confused about whether you can turn left or right. For example, when I go to a certain destination, I get off the highway and need to turn left. The first time I went there, it told me to turn right - and then it told me to do a u-turn. For some reason it didn't think I could turn left. Every time I went to that location afterwards I had to remember to ignore the GPS after I got off the highway and to turn left even though it said to turn right. I wish there was a way to "train" the unit to go the way I told it to, rather than having to remember this "override" each time.

I love the way it turns black at night, white during the day all on its own, knowing the changing sunset and sunrise times. Its display is quite clear and very easy to read. I haven't had any problems with it getting satellite signals and have used it in a number of locations. I pack my GPS with me when I travel and it's been amazingly helpful in getting me around.

I can't see any reason to get any other unit. Maybe some act as MP3 players - but I already have a MP3 player. This does exactly what I want from a GPS - it gets me to my destination and gets me home again.

"Great GPS for the price", I bought this GPS for a road trip from South Carolina to Utah. It was so easy to use. I followed all of "Garmin's" instructions and didn't miss a turn. So easy to use. I love this product.

"Very Decent low priced GPS", Overall Four Stars - I purchased this unit because I was going on a trip up north and do not like to drive in unfamiliar locations. This kind of activity is kept to a minimum, which is why I bought this lower priced GPS unit.

During my trips so far, this unit has been very helpful and I have gotten everywhere I had hoped for without any trouble.

This unit has a large screen ("W" for wide) and is very intuitive and easy to use.

You are able to see the following while on a trip:
Overall route plan with voice prompts with zoom functions - Direction, Street Name and Distance only. Does not voice street names (Main Map Screen)
Time - To destination (Main Map Screen)
How many miles to your destination (Sub-screen)
Speeds (Current and Average) (Sub-screen)
Time - Moving, Stopped (Sub-screen)
Turn by turn directions with mini maps (Sub-Screen)


You are able to search a variety of categories for Points of Interest (Spell Location, Fuel, Food, Transit, Lodging, Shopping, Bank/ATM, Parking) and after a tap or two, have the route ready to go.

You are even able to create Favorites to be able to quickly obtain a destination in the future.

If you do not know the address or if the location is not in the unit's database, you can easily drag/zoom the map to manually find the location and make it your destination.

The unit can recalculate your route quickly if you miss a turn or if there is a "Detour" (Button available on main map screen).

However, there are some issues that I find to be annoying at times, but acceptable due to the low price of the item (More $ = more options/features).

As some people have stated on here, sometimes it can take a minute or two to acquire a satellite signal, but it does not happen that frequently.

I assume that it may have difficulty due to being in motion at those times. I know that sounds wierd, but would it not be easier to plan your route or find you if you were stationary? Give it the short amount of time that it needs, as you should not already be driving somewhere if you don't know how to get there.

The initial start-up load time is about 30 seconds. Again, not a huge amount of time, and more costly units should be faster.

The unit plans some awkward routes sometimes. You can select in your preferences a "Faster Route" or "Shorter Distance," but for me, most of the time they seem to be about the same.

In one instance, I have personally chosen the route that is faster, but slightly longer, and the unit would rather I drive down main street of a nearby typical small city with more traffic lights and lower overall speeds (Either of the above settings).

Again, other more expensive units direct you based on speed limits and traffic patterns, but this is the less expensive option that I am happy with based on how I use it (Around town).

If I were to travel somewhere I was unfamiliar with, then I would be happy with any directions the unit gave me to get where I was going. That is the point of a GPS! If I traveled often to unknown areas, then I would spend more money on a unit with all of the bells and whistles.

Lastly, some have mentioned that the map updates cost about $69 (Once a year). I was not aware of this when I bought it. Paying for updates would not be so bad if they were around $10-15. With the cost of technology coming down all of the time, it might not make sense to pay that much for an update, as not much should change in that amount of time.

Most of these issues that I speak of are solved in units that cost much more, but not at a price point I was comfortable with.

Remember, always pay attention to what you are doing when driving and do not give your GPS blind trust. You do not want to be that person who drives into the lake because your GPS told you to!

"Wish I'd gotten one sooner!", Great time saver and safer than my previous methods of navigation,allowing me to actually watch the road rather than look at map books while driving.Love it!Easy to use and very accurate.

"GPS for travel", This is our second Garmin. We love them both! The wide screen on this model is an asset and the product comes with great support. Well worth the money.

"Perfect for Latin America", I have already bought like 4 of these and I have to say that they have all worked perfectly well. As I would be using it primarily in Latin America I had been told that the Garmin 200w was the one that worked best. I don't know whether it is, in fact, the best one or not, but I cannot imagine any possible improvements.
