"OPEN ICE HIT!!!!"
EA is on the money with this one. Physics are awesome, it's great to watch the players glide across the ice, what's more is that you can almost feel the player skate through the controller. Player animations are great; trips, falls, hits, fights, are shown in their accurate glory. Today I was playing & had a player fall loosing his stick, completely awesome. Strategy has definetly been upped this year. You can't do the same play or strategy, you got to switch it up, your opponents learn quick & will be on you like... well like... someone not switching up their plays. I've had several EA Hockey titles, this one by far is the best. EA this year has really shown their knowledge & dedication in other games also, FIFA '08 to name one. In my humble opinion of course. I'm playing the Vancover Canucks in a Dynasty Mode. Not the best team, nor the worst, but this game is accurate in that you generally lose w/ good teams, win w/ poor teams. Sometimes it's vice versa, it's pretty cool to win against a team that is better than you, but you definetly have to work for it. All in all a great hockey game, you will not be disappointed. Ryan

"Fun game, a little difficult for younger players"
Purchased xbox 360 for the boys this Christmas as well as 2 games - NHL 08 being one of them. The graphics are good, game play is exciting. My children are 12, 8 and 6 and I found this to be a bit difficult for the 8 and 6 yr olds. Would recommend for over 10.

"FINALLY"
Last year's EA lineup (NCAA football, Madden and NHL) were less than acceptable. This year, they are the best games I've played since getting the 360 years ago. NHL is the best of all of the EA lineup. There is complete control with the deke, spinning on the ice for free movement and the realism of the goalie making saves. To not make this a long review, 5 out of 5 for fun, 5 out of 5 for challenge.

"Awesome NHL game"
This is probably the best NHL series game EA has come out with. Every aspect of the game is improved. Much more difficult to play. No more 18-0 scores in begginer level. It's actually a challenge on the begginer level now. The right stick is used for dekeing, stick handling and shooting. There's a code to enter where you can get all of the new reebok jerseys. All around...probably the best NHL game ever.

"NHL 08 (Xbox 360)"
My son and I are completely thrilled with NHL 360 (Xbox 360). The realism and A.I. as well as graphics are very
impressive. The actual gameplay and feel of the ice are very realistic. Great purchase, thank you.

Why I buy this one ?
- The Skill Stick gave you the power to deke the goalie in NHL 07 - now you can own the 1-on-1 matchup and undress opposing defenseman with complete control Use your stick to push the puck into space and walk around your defender. Once you're all alone in front, improved stick handling and shooting accuracy will give you the toolset to beat your goaltender for that decisive goal.
- AI adjusts to your every move both on offense and defense, promising to challenge even the most skilled hockey players. The intelligent CPU scouts your tendencies like a coach and makes the necessary adjustments to shut down your money plays, forcing you to adjust your style of play
- Take any team into practice mode and train them to run custom rush and in-zone plays in game. Do you want your team to run cycle plays down low? Or feed the point for a one-timer? Record the exact movements of each player in practice mode and watch as your team's AI executes them in gameplay
- New analog speed control of the left stick gives you the variance you need to glide into the zone with control or get a burst of speed to step up on a defender. With new skating animations and responsiveness, you have the control to perform crossovers to maintain speed or carve tight turns for an immediate change in direction
- 29 AHL teams - the top developmental league for the NHL - are exclusively featured and fully playable. Develop your talent with their minor affiliate until you are ready to call them up for the show. Be the GM and manage your team from the ground up while staying under the salary cap.

What our customer's say!

"Best Hockey game, but. . .", Rather than write a lengthy review, I'll just put the pros and cons in my own opinion.

Pros: Offense and defense sets up in zones automatically. Positioning is extremely important in Defensive zone.
The most realistic NHL game I've played.
great graphics
The opponent's goalie will challenge you.

Cons: I don't know if it's my xbox or the game, but it freezes/restarts/disc unable to read errors frequently.
The music soundtrack is awful, some of the songs are ridiculously stupid, and sometimes extremely annoying.
Half the time your goalie wont even try to stop the puck, so don't count on them being any help. I suppose I could make my own goalie tho.....
The Refs will always be biased against your team, so you'll be on the PK more than on the PP.

"NHL 08", nhl 08 rocks better than o7 easy to learn not hard to play so much fun to play a must for any nhl hockey fan.

"This is awesome!!! Screw Play Station 2! I'm buying an XBox 360. A true gaming experience!", I don't have XBox 360, but for those that do and are interested in purchasing NHL 08' who haven't, don't hesitate! I played this with my boyfriend at his house on his XBox 360 and now I want an XBox! It makes gaming a lot more fun and exciting, especially NHL 08'. The graphics are more realistic, you have control if you play against the CPU. You vs. CPU is good even multi player is good. I didn't find any delays as they are typical in the older versions of NHL when there is too much action going on around the net and goal tenders-not the case this time! The background music is better to listen to. The commentators this time around are right on target. I found with the older versions the commentators would be saying something not even related to the current actions and would cause confusion. Playing shoot out mode is more fun! I love how you have more control on your team players skating/movement and the skill drills are fun too! The skill drills improve your over all playing skill. I recommend this to anyone as I'm very picky when it comes to gaming such as this! Playing this game on XBox 360, makes my PS2 NHL 08' go to the bottom of the list in ratings. Don't think about it if you are a hockey fan and love hockey, buy it! You won't regret it!

"Crunch and shoot...", I've not owned a version of NHL in several years, but it didn't matter.

Instantly recognizable and playable for the NHL veteran and the newbie, this is an excellent job by EA of updating the game and making some serious improvements. As others have noted, the AI is pretty up to snuff, actually being competent, sharp and tough. The defense swarms, the computer-controlled D poking, bumping, and of course making bone-crunching, somersault-causing checks. They put up opposition, in short, as do the goalies who are generally very, very good.

The game looks fantastic, even without HDTV graphics. All of the faces, arenas, and almost too many uniform options (you can change the player's gloves, helment and stick to a different brand?) Absolutely addictive, all of the previous action is here but vastly improved. One-timers, slappers, beat-downs, insane saves, and even fights have returned. Oddly, though, they seem to have done away with five-minute majors (except for the rare fighting), and double minors, and some penalties altogether (goalie interference, and boarding). Also, it seems like faceoffs get dominated by one team over the other quite often. But these are minor gripes when you look at the whole game.

There's a dynasty mode that is clearly for obsessists, as you control the team, the minor league affiliate, the books, the salary cap, the morale, etc. In addition to the NHL and Olympic teams, there's the entire AHL, as well as the Finnish league and Swedish league. Plenty of small gem teams and players to find.

Highly recommended game for XBoxers. Completely addictive, and this time with a very competent computer that will have you swearing at the screen as Finland runs up the score.

"Great game for real hockey players", I owned NHL 07, and enjoyed the skill stick, however, there were several things that drove me nuts about the game overall. I would drive into the zone and drop the puck back to my defensmen at the point only to discover them wandering around the neutral zone. Similarly, I'd bring the puck across center ice and watch some knucklehead wander offsides. If you actually play real hockey (or watch it) you'd appriciate my frustration. 2 on 1's were useless, as your teamate often stops altogether or skates too far in (past the goal line). Rebounds (a critical part of the game) were all but non-existant. Also there was no practice session (other than the tedious shoot outs) for figureing out how to use the skill stick.

Well NHL 08 fixed these problems and added several more features, making it the best all around hockey game (or any sports) game I've ever played. Your teamates play pretty good position. You can pass around the perimeter, back to the point, etc. Breakouts look great. 2on1s are meaningful. Getting a loose puck in front of the net is often productive. The goalie is much more a part of the defense. There is a nice practice session to help you figure out the skill stick and develop plays. The graphics are improved (your reflections disapear as the ice deterioriates through each period, but your shadow remains). The skating mechanics are much more realistic - fluid and graceful, although this may be frustrating to gamers who want instant response (however unrealistic that is in real hockey). I don't know how non-hockey playing gamers like this game, but as someone who's played serious ice hockey (high school, college, and now old-man league) I love this game.

"five stars for amazon!", My hockey nuts LOVE the game, but I have to applaud Amazon for replacing a defective already-opened copy with no questions asked. We all know a local retailer would never have accepted a return that easily. Thanks Amazon.

"Addictive!", 1.I have NHL07,so 08 is 200% better, and 07 wasn't a bad game.2.I have NCAA,Madden, and Tiger 08,but I'm playing NHL more.3.EA stepped up to the plate this year on 360,I can't say about the PS3 versions, and hit a 3 run triple with there games. If Live comes in about the same as 2K8,then they hit grand slam,if Live as is good or better than 2K8.Go Rangers,Islanders bite it!

"NHL '08", I agree that the game is one of the more difficult EA has produced. I think the difficulty is due to the adjustment in playstyle needed to win in the game. I think that the overall gameplay is more realistic and requires different strategies based on your team's skills and the opposition's.
Also, after playing NHL '07, I think that EA did a great job in improving the latest edition.
I have not played NHL 2k8 so I can not comment on which is the better game. However, I did own 2k7. I felt that nhl 07 had the better gameplay so I went with them this year and have not been disappointed.

"NHL 08", NHL 08 by EA Sports is by far the most difficult hockey game I have ever played. If you could walk through the previous editions undefeated on any difficulty level like I could, you won't on this one. The AI is amazing, as are the appearances of the players. It is like really playing hockey. There is no speed burst. The goalies know you and how you play. Your teammates play along, go for rebounds, and set up plays. And for once, everyone fights. It is very hard, but a lot of fun.

"Awesome!", Bought the game on tuesday and havent put it down!great game.finaly after so many years ea put out a hockey game worth buying.last years wasnt bad but not great either.this year is amazing!the ai is great, graphics are great, gameplay, everything, and very challenging on all star.
