"Not For Me" The product probably works, but a few seconds of use told me that I needed a product more stable. The plasic platter had a warp and the cartrage tracked too heavy for my taste. I decided to return the item and look for another solution, which presented itself with my hooking my old, but very good turntable into my laptop docking statation. Too my surprise I already had a program to capture music from my old turntable and I did not need this product.
"unopened" i have not the chance to set up and test this item, but had to input a rating to close this review. Based on other users I am expecting the results to be similar and that's why I gave it a 4.
"Please please please don't buy this." I would not recommend this turntable unless you ABSOLUTELY need a USB input to your computer for recording. There are much better quality players out there that are much cheaper and can be easily hooked into a computer (mic port) for recording.
Why you would buy this instead of a respectible record player that's $50 cheaper I'll never know: Audio-Technica AT-PL120 Professional Direct-Drive Turntable
"Great turntable; complicated instructions" Here's some suggestions for making the recording easier. Note, we are not audiofiles, but just a couple with about 200 LPs we want to save and listen to through our MP3 players.
We felt the directions for setting up the turntable was easy to understand, but the software setup, including additional software for cleaning, labeling and converting the tracks, took us at least 5 hours to understand and develop a usable process.
Dowloading software: Audacity was easy to download, but the MP3 patch was hard to find on the internet. You may need to use Google to search for the website, if you want it (we used our Creative Media converter software instead).
Converting the LP to a digital format using Audacity was easy. The instructions for creating the tracking were difficult to understand. The automatic tracking never worked for us. The instructions for manual tracking were too vague and took a lot of trial and error. Note, you must do all the editing before you create the tracks. It also helps to label the tracts like this: 01, 02, 03 to ensure that they are saved in the same order as the orginal LP.
Cleaning up, and adjusting the sound, using another software (e.g., Soundsoap). In order to use this software, you must convert the file into wave format (even if you eventually want to save in MP3 format). We opted later to convert the cleaned up wave files to MP3 in order to save all the ID information on the tracks, which cannot be done effectively in Audacity. Note, your standard converter file (e.g. Creative Media)in addition to allowing you to label the tracks appropriately also might allow you to reconvert back to wave if you find out that you need to clean the file even more.
If you are careful, you will be very happy with the results.
"All I hoped for and more" I dearly wanted to put my beloved record albums (vinyl) on an IPOD so I could easily and frequently listen to my favorite, old songs. The ION iTTUSB 10 turntable has turned that dream into a reality. I am NOT computer saavy. I have basic skills and no more. But this is so easy to use. Two programs came with it: EZ Vinyl Converter and Audacity. I have not yet tried Audacity becasuse EZ Vinyl Converter has so far met all my needs. I downloaded ITunes for free and went to work. I have spent many happy hours copying my records to my computer and then to the IPOD. It is slow going, but such a joy to hear this music, read the old album covers, and enjoy the memories. Hook up was breeze, using the USB cable direct to the computer. I carefully followed the set-up instructions that came with the turntable and within an hour was up and running. It has an power-on switch, and a big button marked start/stop. You can play it at 33 or 45 rpm's, and also at 78 if you use Audacity. Supposedly you can also use the turntable as a passthrough for recording from a cassette player, which I will try later on. DO pay more and purchase this model with the dust cover and big, clear buttons. Delivery was very fast and no extra charge. I highly recommend this product.

What our customer's say!
"Exactly as advertised", If one realizes that converting tapes and records to a digital format must take place in real time (unlike the batch processing that occurs when a digital medium, such as a CD, is transferred to a computer), then the Ion Turntable is the way to go.
I purchased the Ion Audio TTUSB because I have hundreds of LP's and 78's that I need to convert to CD (and I wanted the dustcover that comes with it). I have done many conversions of audio cassette tapes (I have a tape deck connected to my computer already) so I'm very familiar with the Audacity software that was provided.
Audacity will also convert recordings made at either 33 1/3 or 45 RPM to 78 RPM digitally. If you need to record old 78's, this is the way to go! I find that if I record an entire album with Audacity, I can then spend a few minutes dividing the original into separate files (tracks) at a more convenient time.
Both programs run in real time, so recordings must be played in their entirety. Audacity allows audio play-through as one transfers music to the computer, so a person can listen while doing other things. Audacity also gives one the flexibility to "clean" recordings of the surface scratches and dust "pops" that are inherent in LP play-back. (Audacity is a free, open source program available for download from Source Forge). It will also export files in either WAV, mp3 or Ogg Vorbis formats.
The "Easy Vinyl Converter" software that also accompanies the turntable is very time consuming to use, especially if one uses it to break the tracks into individual files ("automatic track spacing")-- users must physically sit at the computer and manually divide tracks as they are input into the computer.
The turntable operates as exactly advertised -- it's easy to set up if you've worked with turntables before; the instructions provided would, I think, make set up easy even for a novice. The most time-consuming part of the set up (actually only about five minutes)was the balancing of the tone arm.
There is a separate "gain" control on the back of the turntable housing to regulate output volume (there is a pre-amp in the housing case)as well as a "turntable/line" selection switch. I connected the Ion to my stereo system's amplifier, and was disappointed in the volume of sound during playback, until I turned the switch to "turntable", and then the sound was just fine.
One difference between the standard turntable and the Ion is the felt pad provided for the platter; one usually expects a rubber mat, but the one provided works just fine. I had to purchase an extra long USB cable (16')due to the arrangement I must use (the turntable is that far away from the computer, and I found one on Amazon for about $8.00 , plus shipping. If your set up allows close proximity between turntable and computer, then the USB cable provided should be sufficient.
I have not tried to connect a tape deck to the turntable as yet, but as nicely as the turntable and conversion system operates now, I would expect no performance trouble after doing so.
"Super easy to use", Just got mine last night and found it very easy to use. Instructions are very clearly written and easy to follow. It took a minute to find the two parts taped into the styro packaging but they were well protected there. I am now happily converting my old LP's.
"Easy Solution", Turntable works fine, software works fine. All very easy if you are putting your records on your computer as albums rather than individual tracks. A nice feature is that after you are finished with an album, it goes looking for the album title so you won't have to transcribe it. My record collections stops at about 1970, when the technology wasn't that clever, so it succeeds in about one of three records. Still, it's a convenience.
"Buy this - you won't be disappointed", Don't be misled by the Windows or Mac only requirements. Use this with any Linux box, as I do, with Audacity installed, and it is a breeze. And that way, you don't have to worry about any additional installation with the enclosed CD.
With just a stereo, this player is top quality and has a great range of sound as well.
"What A Piece Of Junk", I wanted one of these for a while and finally got so tired of shuffling the piles of records from one corner of the house to the other that I took the plunge. I was all excited when I took it home but to my surprise, there is no autostart feature. The arm has to be put on the record manually. Even worse, at the end it does not return to the base. If one would leave the room, it may eventually scrape through the record. The mechanism to lift the arm does not lift it high enough to move it on the first track so I have to hold it up by hand. The slip cover for the turntable is just a piece of felt (the store display has a plastic one that looks like a real record player). All that (except the getting stuck at the end of the record) is almost acceptable. However. the turntable is not straight. It wobbles up and down several millimeters. I am not sure if this is the reason the needle skips on certain tracks or if the records have just been lying around for too long. When I pushed the counterweight all the way in, the record does play better but sometimes the head seems to scrape the record since it bounces up and down. I have tried two units thinking I was just had bad luck but I guess not. Very disappointing. Even the cheap record player I had as a kid was better!

Read this reviews before You buy...
"A very good product", My wife and 3 grown kids gave me this turntable for my birthday. I have wanted one for a long time and they decided this was the year to surprise me. It was easy to put together and set up. The computer program enhances the quality of the records. The cd sounds great..just like a professionally one produced. We had a small problem figuring out how to download the recorded record from itunes but a call to our 30 year old daughter fixed that quickly. I would recommend this machine to anyone who has an interest (like myself) and producing quality cds from the records they own. My problem has been the music I like (folk) has not been reproduced commercially on cds and I find myself playing the records a lot and would like to be able to use a cd in the car or truck or in my stereo system.
"absolutely delightful", I don't get the cranky reviews I read below. This turntable does exactly what it is purported to do. I've rescued many out of print classical LPs with outstanding results. I haven't tried the Audacity software yet for cleaning out the background hisses and pops from old LPs but I'm told it is straightforward to use. I highly recommend this turntable for anyone who has a large LP collection and wants to convert to digital format, suitable for MP3 player, iPod, etc. I'm no technophile yet I found it easy enough to use. Also, can be connected in-series with cassette deck.
"Costly :: few features !*!*!*!", Well, it cost >$200 and I at least had a vision of a turntable that would start and stop :: in the automatic mode. Nope; it did not stop.. it did not start! It is all plastic and too expensive.
The only reason that I kept it is that it has a *nice* visual design as far as components go. It has a dust cover and some adjustment features.
The whole darn thing cost about $22 to manufacture or less. Do not buy this item.. go else where.. look for one made of metal or wood.
"Does what it says.", Followed the set up and operating instructions carefully, and it worked the way they said it would. No problems. But for the money, I thought it should have had an automatic tone arm return.
"I'm jammin' now, baby!", I purchased a turntable which can download my husband's LP's to his Ipod or a CD. He has pulled out his huge selection of LP's, and at least 4 times a week, I can find him listening to his old jams as he uses modern technology to have his oldies with him wherever he goes: work, walking, driving. When I go downstairs and peek in the room where this metamorphosis is occurring, his only comment is "I'm jammin' now, baby!" This is the best Christmas gift that I have purchased for my hubby...well worth the price!!
