"Orange Box - Insane Deal, Wonderful Games" The whole notion of sticking all these games together for such an unbeatable price blows me away. Anyhow, as a whole the package, the price, and the games cause my rating to bump up to 5/5 stars but I'd like to break it down by game and review each of them shortly because it is a compilation game.
Half Life 2: 5/5 HL2 Episode 1: 3/5 HL2 Episode 2: 3/5 Team Fortress 2: 5/5 Portal: 5/5
Half Life 2: The game picks up what seems to be 15 or so years after the original game. You have been dropped off in the middle of a conflict between an alien police force / totalitarian and the surviving humans. It seems that the aliens from the original game have returned as well (including the charming Alienesc face hugger ones).
There are plenty of weapons to use in the game and the games feel is much less restricted than the original. As mentioned in other reviews the vehicles can be annoying but I enjoyed those levels as well.
The multiplayer is interesting but I didn't find it anything worth mentioning further here.
--------------
Half Life 2: Episode 1: Continues shortly after Half Life 2. You lose all your weapons (since it's a stand alone game this is understandable but annoying) and your mission continues. The game wasn't anything special and while it did continue the story I would never have purchased the game if it wasn't included. It's rather short and there isn't much new.
--------------
Half Life 2: Episode 2: Just like Episode 1 you start off empty handed as well. It continues from the ending of Episode 1. I must admit this episode had some more interesting aspects to it but it too was somewhat repetitive. It also had the most annoying beginning of any game I've ever played. Who doesn't want to spend the first half of the game with only the gravity gun?
It does end in an interesting way and leads you to believe there will be a Half Life 3, however. I'm just hoping there isn't a Half Life 2: Episode 3 before then.
--------------
Team Fortress 2: Arguably one of the best multiplayer shooter games on the market right now. While there aren't many maps that come with the game the ones that do are fun to play and the plethora of classes to pick from keep the game interesting.
One of the only draw backs to the game would be just that there aren't many weapon choices once you do select a class. There's a melee weapon, your class weapon, and usually a weaker but more generic weapon (like a shot gun or a rifle). It does add to the strategy of the game though.
My only other complaint would be that for a game that so relies on team combat it requires a lot of work to join a clan. It would have been nice if there was some way to dynamically set a clan tag in your profile so you wouldn't have to actually change your steam login username to join one.
--------------
Portal: This game alone would have definitely been worth buying if you were given the choice let alone as a piece of such a great bundle.
The whole idea behind it is you are a test subject at a facility which is using you as a guinea pig to test out a new weapon. This weapon allows you to create a portal which you can use to move from wherever you set the opening portal to where you set the closing one. This is the only gun you get in the game.
I won't spoil much but the game somehow manages (through the genius of the developers no doubt) to use this premise to build an engaging atmosphere and storyline even into such a short game. It's puzzle game meets action shooter. And while it sounds very easy it can be pretty hard as you begin to think about all the possibilities of the portals (like making a portal under you, and one above you pointing out, jumping down and using your speed to propel you a distance).
The only draw back to this one is how short it is. You likely can finish this game in one sitting if you put enough time aside and pick up the general idea of how to use the portals quick enough.
--------------
All in all this is a great collection and definitely worth the money. The HL2 episodes are rubbish but everything else is a definite add on to the compilation.
"best deal" 5 games in one.
EXCELLENT story in the HL2 and 2 add ons. Very cinematic and movielike. FUN FUN FUN
"Orange Box Rox" This game is exactly as all the great reviews say. I don't have much to add, it's a great game.
"orange box" game rocks. you cant beat getting 5 games in one box for such a cheap price. portal or team fortress 2 are definitely worth it alone. including the new halflife episode and the old ones is also great. had some problems getting the old ones working but found some information online. they should have fixed the issues by now though. other than that, i still play team fortress 2 all the time and portal was one of the best games i have played in a long time.
"Completely Happy" This game is worth the money paid for it. Portal was definitely fun, and the half life 2 episode 2 contains a good amount of playtime. I try to gauge a games worth based of amount of game time versus cost, and this is up there with the best.

Why I buy this one ?
- Characters - Advanced facial animation system delivers the most sophisticated in-game characters ever seen. With 40 distinct facial muscles, human characters convey the full array of human emotion, and respond to the player with fluidity and intelligence
- Physics - From pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks respond as expected, as they obey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy
- Graphics - Source's shader-based renderer, like the one used at Pixar to create movies such as Toy Story and Monster's, Inc., creates the most beautiful and realistic environments ever seen in a video game.
- AI - Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can assess threats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is at hand

What our customer's say!
"Orange you gonna' try it?", The Orange box retail item is one of the best sets I've ever purchased. As far as first person shooters go, Half life 2 ranks among the finest Jam packed with action, realistic graphics and physics that you would think would bring any respectable machine to its knees, but actually it's easy on the system resources (My machine is over a year old without any major upgrades except a memory upgrade from 2 gb to 4 gb) I didn't need to scale anything down! This game has it all, an excellent plot, storyline, even a burgeoning under-the-table love story. Weapons are diverse and realistic looking, and actual gameplay leaves nothing to be desired from bifurcating zombies with circular saw blades, to disintegration via unstable fusion cores. If Half life 2 leaves you wanting more you have 2 extra "episodes" to play with; action, graphics, physics are all the same some extra characters are introduced all-in-all the other episodes are just as good as Half life 2 albeit not as long. If you're looking for some intellectual gameplay that tests your cognitive abilities look no further than Portal, a game that takes place in a strange lab that seems like nothing more than a testing arena but slowly reveals its sinister purpose. Team fortress 2 is also an excellent multiplayer game that is based on the half life engine.
"WARNING: Won't Install Without Internet ON", WARNING: Don't buy this game unless you don't have a problem with the fact that you MUST be connected to the Internet to even install the game. If you're one of those people who have anti-virus software running at the same time, also forget it, as you will most likely be unable to find any but the least secure settings that will allow it to work.
If your PC is already part of the worldwide spammers botnet, then OK, I guess. But I strongly advise against it for anyone with any computer equipment you actually care about keeping virus or malware-free.
It's positively unconscionable to think there's anything even remotely OK about connecting to the sign-up website Steam just to run this game, after buying the game in a store. No wonder colleges have so much trouble allowing returning students to plug their laptops into the college networks without infecting their networks with so many viruses and malware it's not EVEN funny anymore.
"Steam does not require a live internet connection to PLAY games.", Yu-jin Chia,
While Steam requires a live internet connection to INSTALL the games, one can play the games offline by simply putting the Steam client in offline mode. Additionally, one can turn off the automatic update feature for the games.
Steam is by far the best online game distribution system available. Most others require a monthly fee. A steam account is free (no setup fee and no monthly fee). One simply purchases the games desired.
"DANGER - Do not buy a used copy! Valve won't transfer licences", Beware. A lot of people on here selling "New but opened" copies of orange box are actually selling registered copes and Valve (in their infinte wisdome) refuse to transfer licences from one customer to another (in violation of the "First Sale" doctrine of copyright law).
DO NOT BUY a used copy except from an 'authorized valve reseller' (whoever that is, apparently not Amazon, unfortunately).
"great!!", Great buy for all who are new to HL2 and those who already have it.
You get:
HL2: Which I believe is one the best games ever. Nothing more I can say that hasnt already been said.
HL2 Episode 1: Fast action and great graphics and gameplay. Not much more to say about this either.
HL2 Episode 2: Another fast paced and very intense game. The graphics still hold up and this expansion has less puzzle solving this time which I like alot better. Also, th final battle is very intense and very cool. Awesome soundtrack as always. Game keeps you on the edge of your seat. Also has a surprise ending.
Portal: What a little gem this is. This is a very cool game with great graphics and great puzzles to solve. The puzzles get harder and harder up to the last one which is very long and very challenging. Also a little comical and also has a surprise and cool Ending.
TF2: Instead of making this look like the old TF (which would have been like playing CS), they created 9 Pixar -like charcters to choose from. Excellent graphics and cool maps and there are so many new maps already out there that this game stays cool for along time. With 9 classes to choose from, you have many different ways you can play the game. Also keeps your best scores for each class. I love this game.
So if you haven't gotten any HL2 games, this is your chance to catch up and have at least 40+ hours of single-player gaming and countless hours on TF2. Happy gaming.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Great Deal", Couldn't ask for a better PC game. Portal is short but extremely fun (3-8 hours). Episode two is more of the same from the half-life series, good graphics and even better game play. I highly recommend you pick this up if you have never played half life two yet, its one of the best 1st person shooters out there. Just make sure you have an internet connection for steam (online software validator).
"The best $29.99 I've ever spent.", Excellent package of games. I fully expected HF2 to rival the original, and it's even better than that first-rate game. I've yet to play Episode 1 and 2, so I still have that to look forward to. Portal was a blast! I've only dinked around with Team Fortress 2, so I can't say much about it. However, with only Portal and HF2 under my belt so far, I can honestly same it's money well spent. Everything has run well on my getting-long-in-the-tooth rig, so even if you don't have a state-of-the-art machine you can still probably handle this collection of games.
"Best Gaming value available", Orange box if full of Orange goodness! Perfect length of play with Episode 2. Storyline is great, and while required skills are much like all the other Half Life series, its a blast (literally)! The other items are also as much fun or more. Worth every penny and then some.
"Best bang for your buck!", This is the best bang-for-your-buck PC game out there. Half-Life 2 is one of the best games ever made (just check every review ever written), Portal is fun (if only for a short while) and Team Fortress 2 is one of the most fun multiplayer FPS games available.
I've had the game for just about a month and I can't seem to break away from it...Halo 3 and Guitar Hero 3 are sitting on the shelf untouched. Way too much fun if you ask me!
":D", Awsome i love the sale price thats the only reason i got it cuz i don't have a system that can run it on max. But eventually i will :D excellent buy. Shipping was perfect arrived on time.
